If I am not mistaken, that pattern is a close variation of what Victor Emmanuelli showed me as the Sica from Cataño but within Bomba folks we are still making educated guesses about info and traditions that may be extinct. In the meantime using what little valuable info that was passed down by some individuals and families like the Ayalas, Cepedas, Emmanuellis, and students thereof. Bomba just needs two barriles (food or liquor barrel with goat skin heads), sometimes sticks, maraca, guiro or a guira, but a lead singer, voices to do the response and dancers just as important. Bombazos can last hours and usually all the more experienced folk rotate on the instruments, mic and dance floor to keep the energy and vibe going as long as possible. Sorry to flood the comments below but there is alot of misinfo and i couldn't miss the chance, in case some of your fans want to do more research than the crappy videos that are on youtube...i don't profess to be a master but an avid student and friend of masters and other such students. Love and peace. If you want more info I can point you in the direction of folks in the US and PR for lessons or questions. Best thing is to go see or study it in Puerto Rico or with some of the master's in the U.S. for yourself!

GI S Thank you!!! The history of bomba is so vast and mysterious... which makes it even more valuable and beautiful... Coco is a friend of mine (one of the videos you showed) and he was actually seen playing in one of the clips in the video... and trust it’s a must message to spread to the world and something me and him both discussed about over the weekend... it’s needed! Hopefully... in the future... I can make a docuseries on these folkloric rhythms from different perspectives from masters and students... it’s a message that can never get lost! I appreciate the info! Love it!

@@APercussionLife I know you mentioned learning from Paolie's LP Tutorial and "Master" Pedro Barreira's youtube videos but did u also learn from Coco or anyone else in person? Sorry to get so defensive my DMV brother, Hermano de Tambor and La Fe...there is so much confusion and misinformation within our own folk that I get a lil touchy especially since the term Master has lost its respect. Btw the pattern is also very similar and know to some as Guembe or Cuembe in Cataño...holler. Dios te bendiga!

Just watched fantastic 🎉. I’m working with kids in an after school program and they are going to be introduced to drumming. I hope I will be able to get the instructor to add Bomba to the lesson . I’ll keep watching so I can practice the dance.

Bendiciones!

Sir I am an amateur played from India. I would love to know the difference between
    Cha cha
    Guaracha
    Salsa
    Mambo
Because I find them very similar sounding. Though I read about their history a bit, but the rhythms are confusing me.

Eric this is freaking awesome Bro! Gracias por hacer este video y traer un poquito de la isla para que la gente sepa! Anyway great video especially trying to break down Paoli Mejias bomba pattern, not an easy feat Bro! Anyway bomba Sica is the most used when mixing it up with salsa and other rhythms. There are other patterns like Jayden stated on his comments earlier, the "barriles" are Buliador and Primo or Subidor or Primo. Although the Subidor is tune high so when the player is following the dancer's movements, it will break through the Buliador's sound which usually will have more than one playing. Anyway Bro great vid like always and I'm sure Paoli would approve of this big time!
