I think olive oil is a Must Have for emergency food. It not only adds good flavor and texture, but it has important fats and fatty acids that are essential for good health. That's especially true in a "protein poisoning" type of situation where you only have lean meats and vegetables to eat. (meaning you should try to conserve your stored food as you hunt/gather instead of finishing all your stored food before you start to hunt and gather).
Thank you again Mr Harrell!! I Enjoy and learn from all of your videos. I really enjoy the Dutch oven cooking in the field you do, and Ofcourse the Anecdotes!! They really make me laugh!!! Thank you again!!!
Bolognese is an Italian word that is used to describe a person or thing that comes from Bologna, the city. Bolognese sauce is supposed to be a recipe for a tomato based meat sauce (or ragù) that is typical of the Bologna area.
From Wikipedia, “Genuine ragù alla bolognese is a slowly cooked meat-based sauce…” “Outside Italy, the phrase "Bolognese sauce" is often used to refer to a tomato-based sauce to which minced meat has been added.”
@@83Abby From a person who lived in Italy for eighteen years, I know what ragù alla Bolognese is. All meat sauces are cooked relatively slowly, but the cooking time has nothing to do with what defines a ragù as Bolognese or not. Not to mention, anyone from outside of Italy claiming to know how to make authentic ragù alla Bolognese would not be believed by real Bolognesi.
I was just pointing out that the true Bolognese sauce is meat-based, not tomato-based. I live with a bunch of Italians, so yeah, they were yelling at the video about Paul’s lack of knowledge of bolognese sauce.
I found a recipe in a magazine years ago and I made it, my husband took his first bite...looked at me, cocked one eyebrow, and said, "so that's a fancy name for spaghetti?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@gidget8717 That's the truth of it right there! The nerds, and food snobs, love to quarrel over what is "real" and "authentic". I don't know any person who loves Italian food that would think these Glamping Packet Products are anything approximating Italian food -- not even the often-cited, beloved Mountain House Lasagna varieties. But many people like to think they can get it turn-key... like thinking that buying these packs, they are "ready to be in the outdoors" even though they live in an urban or suburban setting 95% of the time at minimum. Glampers... so maladjusted!
Someone has probably brought this up, but as an MRE hobbyist and fan of the dish, Country Captain Chicken( also I own as chicken country captain) was Anglo-American dish of Indian origins featuring chicken, rice, golden raisins, and other tidbits that was adapted rather poorly by Natick labs (the developers of most modern American rations back to the 50's) . It was selected due to being the known favorite dish of the famous General George Patton. It's a lovely dish when prepared well, but Natick really dropped the ball and troops seemed to not take to it.
My favourite hammock camper, shugemery, swears by them. He would NEVER eat them at home, but in the morning, his coffee made, puts a pop tart over the top to warm up - yum. But at home he makes real food including some of the best BBQ tips and techniques out there.
Great video Paul! What would you recommend, Right on Trek meals or the Nutrient Survival system food you previously reviewed? Or maybe the better question is what do you have for emergency food storage ?
For storage I'd recommend going online to MRE depot and emergency essentials. Given the choice, I think the right on trek was better than Nutrient survival.

Nothing shows that someone really likes food as much as going back for multiple additional bites! I watch Paul for these unedited moments, he's just about the most genuine guntuber out there.
Can’t wait for it either. Always glad to see a new video. Keep up the good work Paul & The Crew! Getting ready to start deer hunting here in South Carolina.
Paul, as usual you never fail to entertain and give valuable info on the things in your presentations. For those who want you to HURRY IT ALONG as they say. I actually enjoy the way you do your video's. Thanks again for all you do.
If I hear anyone say that he should hurry up I say they just don't get it lol.
Instant grits are available in individual packets that could be stored in a zip loc freezer bag to keep them dry when in the field.
As an upstanding southern man, I have to say. Instant grits are a sin.
That´s fairly versatile. Around here it comes in 1 kg pakets. It can be used for sweet and savoury grit and can be made in "just the right amount" for your level of hungry.
The only 43 min review on camp food I would watch is this one, real and no bull.
How do you know you're a legend? Two minutes before the stream even starts, there's four hundred people watching and already 310 likes. Lol I see I'm not the only one who clicks like before they even watch his content.
All North Korean bots!
There's a big back catalog and maybe some super-skeptical people might say, "well I can't reflexively like this, maybe he's put out a stinker before and I could be wrong here..."
No reason they should trust me, but I'm not easy to please and I've watched many of his videos and never once been uninformed, unimpressed, and unentertained by our host. A reflexive like is a safe bet here.
@@seanoneil277 I do not do reflexive likes. I think that Paul deserves an honest, unbiased opinion on his videos. That can only be done in retrospective. That said, I end up liking it anyway.
@@maxlutz3674 I don't either, and my comment above was the driest & most awkward joke attempt I've done in a long time.
Imagine it's 1983, you just fought off the cubans and successfully seized the Grenada Airport, reinforcements arrive and you finally have time to rest, MRE's are distributed to your unit, the guy across from you is enjoying his piping hot "chicken a la king". You frantically tear your MRE open in excitement, this is the first time you've smiled in 3 days, but it is in vain. Your eyes water and your throat sinks to your gut.. "HAM SLICE".
More of these type of videos, please! Your sense of humor shines.
LMFAO the "I helped voice"🤣🤣🤣
Pauls cooking is about the only cooking I watch... There is just something about it I love. Cowboy ken is also a cooking channel I like.
Hello subscriber congratulations you’ve been selected for the ongoing giveaway, kindly send a message to the number above to claim …
Edwin sarkissian cooking is a good one too
the only other cooking channel I watch is an Australian chef who makes 5 minute craft recipes, feed it to her poor husband, then makes it properly
Kent Rollings is great and has good recipes. I also like Cooking con Claudia and for the outdoors things Chef Corso.
Half the reason I watch/listen to you is tour distinctive way of speaking! Professional, distinctive enjoyable.
I love it that Paul gets the famous expression correct - "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" - so many people nowadays say things like "the proof is in the pudding" or some other weird, meaningless mangled version. Yet another reason to be fan of Mr Harrell.
Cooking with Paul is like cooking with Julia Child - outstanding!
Best greetings from Poland 🇵🇱🇺🇲✌🏻
I almost love Paul’s camping and hunting vids as much as the firearm vids,.. I learn something from Paul every video. Thank-you for your service kind sir.
Paul never disappoints !
I love your content, Mr.Harrell. Always a pleasure to see a new video by you! 👍
Paul's Back Country Culinary School. Well done Paul. Watching this at 2 AM, I know Eggs will be on the menu for breakfast. All the best!!
Thank you that was a blast to watch and I learned a few things about the product as I had my evening 🍸 on the back porch. Thank you
Looking forward to your Thanksgiving Day video once again!
How can anyone keep from loving Mr.Harrell
He is alright !
Great video. Thanks much.
God bless all here
The cooking videos are becoming a favorite of mine! Now on to the Halloween special!🎃🎃
Sounds like a corruption of South Indian cooking, like biryiani.
You Sir, are a joy to watch. Good hunting.
Will Paul be using Poptarts as the gold standard for taste on these?
Either way can't wait to see how this goes.
My favourite hammock camper, shugemery, swears by them. He would NEVER eat them at home, but in the morning, his coffee made, puts a pop tart over the top to warm up - yum. But at home he makes real food including some of the best BBQ tips and techniques out there.
Have you checked out how long Pop-tarts last anyway? No need for a freeze dried version.
@@zorro456 Well. they're just cardboard and sugar. Should have a shelf-life of 50 years.
@@zippitydoodah5693 You are thinking of Twinkies. "Silly Customer! You Can't Hurt a Twinkie!"
@@zorro456 .🤣
Love these reviews. Thank you Paul.
I once got 5 miles into a backpacking trek before I realized I’d forgotten my beeswax. Had to turn around.
Great video Paul I love learning about cooking by watching you cook in the outdoors.
Great video, surprisingly how many folk need to see this
The man with the plan. Back woods cooking and guns hell yeah hahah
I absolutely am a full-blown fan of this channel I really get a lot of enjoyment from it and now that Paul has legitimized my lifelong love of cold Canned food for camping I am beyond happy shoot straight America
Update: Broccoli Beef Stroganoff is now 50% off and includes a free stick of antique cheese
50% off seems to be not enough. Beef Stroganoff is a bad idea for that kind of meal anyway. Part of the experience is the texture and acidity from the pickles.
That idea is in the vicinity of poutine in a retort pouch.
@@maxlutz3674 Mountain House beef stroganoff is one of the best meals they offer. And pickles are not in traditional beef stroganoff btw.
Paul Harrell's outdoor cooking videos are simply sublime. I can't explain why... but it is a profound pleasure to watch and listen. I think it is because... I am weird... maybe?
I have very fond memories of the magic pantry MRE here in Canada from the 80's
Except their ham omelet that you could patch a duce and a half tire with
I loved their
Beans and weaners
Salisbury steak with gravy
Every mre came with peanut butter and crackers with strawberry jam
Hot sauce a book of matches and different juice packages
O but the best of all was
They had hot chocolate packs .coffee. tea with creamer and sugar
And then they did the unthinkable they put a kit kat or a Hershey's chocolate bar in every
Full day meal pack
I've had a few different MRE's
Hands down everyone that we trained with from other countries would trade just about anything to get our rations
Those meals didn't look very tasty brother
Thank you for the videos
God bless
Just saying
Ah, the beenie-weenies! 😆
Your an " out of the box " thinker with your videos Paul. Excellent!
