The reason houses are like that is not because the ¨Great Flood¨ conspiracy theory... In Imperial Russia, building codes and tax laws often assessed properties based on the amount of livable space above ground. By building the basement partially below grade (underground), homeowners could reduce their tax burden and comply with building codes while still having additional storage or living space. That kept going on decades after the Imperial Russia was gone for aesthetic reasons and also to reduce taxes in the properties.
Thanks for posting this. People were avoiding taxes on dwellings - there was no "mud flood" that buried the first floor of so many old buildings, just people avoiding taxes lol.
If that were true, they would not have built doors and windows half buried. When they dig these buildings out, you can see the truth. They are not basements.
@@yvonnepoole141 FYI, the minimum height of a window to make those floors taxable is 61cm, and those basement windows are clearly no more than 40cm. Also the height of a basement roof was considered at the time of taxation, they checked the available space that was habitable or not. Some of that architecture you were looking at. There is a dogwood flower in one of them, and the staff with the 2 snakes on it is a caduceus. Is from Greek mythology, meaning commerce/negotiation/logistics. One snake is a symbol for medicine but sometimes the 2 snakes is also used. In Greek mythology, this eas carried by the gods that were acting as messengers, "a heralds wand". Would love to hear Russian mythology!
A lot of our history is hidden. Some structures were inherited. Looks like you are in a lovely mud flood section. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are priceless objects in the antique store. This is really amazing to see.
Once I started hearing about the mud flood theory I noticed an old church in our town. There are steps to go UP to the main entrance and directly under that, steps to enter the lower level. Who in the world would dig 6 feet below ground level to make an entrance. Simultaneously I noticed an old church about 15 miles from here with the same thing. Both of them are older than anything else built around them. I’m tempted to go into the chamber of commerce and ask about the history of that old church in our town. And you notice that Dan is seeing this stuff in an older area. It’s always the older buildings. Curiouser and curiouser 🤔

Terry Pratchett, an english author, wrote about the first floor of buildings in Ank Morpork being below the surface of the street. So, I guess this happens in very very old cities.
Indeed, and love his books. Rest in peace, Mr Pratchett. As for Ankh-Morpork, mostly Morpork, as the old city was razed, burned down as a hobby and generally destroyed, new floors were built on older floors, using material from those old floors for newer floors. If one had a heavy enough hammer, they could travel through sub-basements across the city, never once seeing the smoky sun or Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler's mystery sausages.
Dan, you're one of the few (maybe the only) historians who are preserving these images of areas which may not be around a lot longer. Clearly these neighborhoods have been neglected (which often happens when a nation's resources are channeled to other endeavors and different priorities). The graffiti, the poor drainage in the streets, the crumbling facades and poorly maintained buildings... unfortunate. You have a very good "eye" for architecture that is "off" -- out of proportion and lacking harmony (as you correctly describe it.) And there's a lot of it here. This is one of the few areas that you've taken us to that I feel could be described as "depressing." But every country in the world has them, and it's important to show the truth, whether or not it's "petty." Thank you.
As you stole through the streets of your city, you are showing we the people of the world, centuries of Russian History. Thank you for your personal feelings and perspective on what your country has gone through. By Russian standards the USA is a relatively young country but we have many things in common, most important to recognize is that no matter what country we see and explore those in control want the power to control us. Keep up the great work. Trust me, the message is being recognized. GOD BLESS
Thanks for showing the lovely architecture of your country along with the history. I've learned a lot from your videos over the years of your country that otherwise I as an American would not have known or ever seen.

Cross-walk was accurate! I love this video; I love seeing the towns. The building reminds me of the "Tartarian" theory also known as the "The Great Mud Flood" where people believed we have all these underground cities. Like how the first floors are under the dirt now.
The architecture design is stunningly beautiful. You do not see such beauty anymore. People created and built back in those days took pride in the work, creativity and craftsmanship. Those buildings will outlast anything that is built now. Thank you so much for sharing the beauty! Many blessings to you and the family!

First floor as in once was the first floor or do they have basements? If they were originally the first floor what caused the community to raise the road level. Road raising has happened in several American cities (Seattle, Sacramento). Primarily due to flooding issues.

I love you and your dear family, I send light and love to your people and your country ❤
I don't always leave a comment, but I love your family so much! God Bless.
WOW! It is so beautiful! The woodwork, the ornate ironwork are so incredible! Thank you so very much! I’ve been watching your family for years and you have a special place in my heart ❤️❤️❤️
You speak English well .I very much enjoyed your video, we have something in common I also like old architecture, and I find it very interesting.
Dan and his family are a blessing to the Russian culture.
I love old buildings too . I love the painted murals too. Thanks for showing us an older part of Russia.
It is good to see you doing a video for us. Thank you for sharing your time! Blessings my lovely, Sheekoz family!!
Right, the snakes are also used in some medical symbols.
I love taking pictures of architecture. Thank you for taking us along and showing us the beauty of architecture.
Thank you. Infinite blessings to you.
Enthralled every minute. So good to see you. Thanks for the charming tour.
@@dagnytaggart5216 Yes, once you're aware, you notice them everywhere, in every city! I'm in Chicago and notice them in every neighborhood - and if not mud flood buildings, then the bell towers and energy stations or giant doorways. It's all in plain sight!
@@flygirl2b It's a conspiracy theory that was debunked.
You should get a metal detector that detects different types of things like copper and silver.I bet there are cool things buried under where the mud floods where.
@@dagnytaggart5216 mud flood is straight up ridiculous, buildings have been built with basements for freaking ever & even still today they are, the US cities are full of these types of buildings because space/land is expensive so they build up & down.. good lord its not a conspiracy in the slightest
Dan thank you for showing us. My late husband Josef who was born in Soviet Union and his dad was a white soldier under Czar Nicholas. He escaped to Poland after witnessed the revolution. He burned his uniform . He loved life before Red star. Really enjoyed watching it.
I am so glad you are an awakened man, I'm your fan, Greetings from Peru, South America
Thank you for showing us the old buildings, so beautiful!
Thank you for showing us a bit of your world. Beautiful parts of old towns/cities everywhere. I think we all forget we are more alike than different. You allowed us to travel to you with this video - very nice.
Beautiful woodwork on so many buildings! If only it could be restored! 🤔🙂👍🌷
That is part of the problem with Russia: too many things are in a bad state of disrepair.
BUT IT CAN, KEEP UP THE GOOD RABOTA.
@todddanielson If you truly believe that, then you haven't been to Russia. I'm not saying that there are no shabby places in the US (there are plenty), but in Russia, it's on an entirely different level.
Dan thank you so much for this video I cannot express my heart felt thank you ! Hugs from this grandmother in Florida, USA
Thank you for sharing your beautiful neighborhood and culture with us here in Shelbyville Indiana USA. It helps us see how our lives are similar and connected from halfway around this magnificent globe we call home. Many blessings!
Hello Dan, thank you for the videos. You have a beautiful family.
Thank you for showing us this amazing historical part of the city.👍👍
Thank you for the wonderful tour. I agree with you I love seeing the old architecture, the great craftsmanship that has survived time. As well as the human history of all kind.
I love the old architecture. Thank you for showing this. I'm from Canada.
Australia here. Absolutely fascinating tour .I very much enjoyed watching.
Old buildings are very interesting to me , Dan . The serpent , snake and staff symbol is called a caduceus in English . It represents all things medical . I have grown to love your family as I watch .
A what in english?
@@reflectionsinthebible3579 A “caduceus “ pronounced kuh-doo-see-uhs . A symbol for healing . As far back or farther than the Bible , where Moses was instructed to set up a bronze serpent on a pole . But, I am sure you know that from your name .
It originally stands for our body's energetic flow, kundalini, as well as our DNA strands.
The old architecture of the buildings is beautiful!! Thanks for this video.
What a wonderful video !! Thank you so much, Dan. ❤
Your English is getting to be superb👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🙏🥰
Thank you for your wonderful and INTERESTING VIDEO. I LOVE UPIR WORDS "seekers of truth". So many of us join you in our search of truth, I love you and your dear family . I love all the beauty and diversity of Russia . You are a part of my search for truth. I've learned so much from you and your family. Blessings always to yout family and friends ❤
Terry Pratchett, an english author, wrote about the first floor of buildings in Ank Morpork being below the surface of the street. So, I guess this happens in very very old cities.
What we call the basement, they call the first floor, in Europe
Indeed, and love his books. Rest in peace, Mr Pratchett. As for Ankh-Morpork, mostly Morpork, as the old city was razed, burned down as a hobby and generally destroyed, new floors were built on older floors, using material from those old floors for newer floors. If one had a heavy enough hammer, they could travel through sub-basements across the city, never once seeing the smoky sun or Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler's mystery sausages.
Да, эти подвалы были в свое время 1м этажем.
Dan, you would be an awesome tour guide. 👍👍
Jon Levi is another TH-cam channel that studies the old buildings.
@@HorstofArthelmorst Thank you!
Yes!! Beautiful architecture!! LOVE the vibe of that neighborhood!! Love the graffiti that covers the whole wall, it's like a painting.
Here n the US we call the one floor down A BASEMENT! There are many homes with basements mostly in colder climates!
Midwest like Kansas, Missouri and so on due to tornadoes. Safest place to be during a tornado.
@@Lonniepsangel Фишка в том, что это был 1й этаж, который спустя годы превратился в подвал.
GOD BLESS
Well said!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks for showing the lovely architecture of your country along with the history. I've learned a lot from your videos over the years of your country that otherwise I as an American would not have known or ever seen.
The architecture IS very beautiful Dan.
Skilled artists at work. Thank you for showing us.
This was very interesting!! Thank you ❤️ from Sweden
There’s kind, honest, people all over this world. It’s just a few who choose war. Bravo to you for seeking truth. Much love to you and your family. Stay safe.
Cross-walk was accurate! I love this video; I love seeing the towns. The building reminds me of the "Tartarian" theory also known as the "The Great Mud Flood" where people believed we have all these underground cities. Like how the first floors are under the dirt now.
As a civil engineer I cannot see any other explanation
Its just so beautiful to walk with you! Thank you for the tour! Absolutly beautiful!
Dan, excellent video. I like how you slow us down to look at and admire details. Well done.
Old BEAUTIFUL buildings - we have them here too. Beautiful craftsmanship- lovely.
I love this video. Thank you for creating this. Beautiful town.
Thank you for showing us such beauty! 🙂👍 Old architecture is beautiful especially with ancient symbols.
Really wonderful walk with you Dan. God bless you and your beautiful family!!
That amazing tree is a Cherry Plum. It must have been incredible when in flower.
The architecture design is stunningly beautiful. You do not see such beauty anymore. People created and built back in those days took pride in the work, creativity and craftsmanship. Those buildings will outlast anything that is built now.
Thank you so much for sharing the beauty!
Many blessings to you and the family!
Beautiful and very, very clean!!
The same building style we have all over the world. When i go in germany to nuremberg i see nearly the same old buildings. There had been some global catastrophic event.
Old architecture amazes me! Everything was quality work back then no matter what country . Blessings and good health to you and your family. When I hear the word "Adorable" , I always thing of your family😊
First floor as in once was the first floor or do they have basements? If they were originally the first floor what caused the community to raise the road level.
Road raising has happened in several American cities (Seattle, Sacramento). Primarily due to flooding issues.
Dan, loved this video, was like getting to walk those streets myself. Lovely old architecture. Im from the US & love my country, but I also appreciate your country's beauty. You do a good job with your English. Blessings to you and your family.
You are so right about the mud flood that happened in a great many parts of the world. Likely we have experienced more than one great flood.
Where exactly are you walking here today?
Your Spirit is so kind, humble and meek. You Bless me everytime I watch one of your videos. Your precious family is growing, I understand, with Baby on the way!!! Congratulations!!!
Thank you for the lovely tour, Dan. I understand completely about the buildings being buried & why you cant talk much about it. I assume most people here have picked up & researched Tartaria & the like. I feel the weight of the truth as well.
Many blessings to you and your family.
It;s nonsense. How can you believe in this conspiracy theory? None of it ever happened. None of these buildings were buried by a mud flood. They all have basements. Period.
Thank you! I enjoyed the walking tour! Very beautiful buildings.
The tree is an ornamental plum , it’s so beautiful
Dan, I agree with you. The architecture on those old buildings is beautiful and amazing. I've always been fascinated by the symbols and what they symbolize. Interesting. I also see that there is alot of Art painted on building's as well. A nice walk in an interesting old time city. Thanks for sharing another of your interesting walks. Always enjoy them! Your English is excellent Dan. I understand everything you say!👍 Good job! I like this type of video you make. I always learn something interesting from you! Best wishes to you Dan and all of your family! Hope Suzi is doing well!🙏❤😊
Wow, I think it's awesome when we have another truth seeker. I pray that many more will join in. GOD bless my brother. You are not alone. Everybody needs to learn about the symbols and what they mean. Seek the truth even if it hurts.🙏🏻
We are all so much the same...houses, streets, cars, even graffiti. Why do we allow overlords to make us war with each other?
I work for a Russian family and am trying to learn Russian too. Dan! Blessings!
Wonderful and interesting show. Your English is very good. Thank you!
Love you and your family! You speak English very well. I have watched you from the beginning when you were still building your house and living in your small house at your parents place.
I very much enjoy your walking tours and your insight regarding history. Much love from Washington state USA.
