Thank you for this video. I got a lot of answers in case to finishing my weekly task for my Bilingual Education class. Once again, thank you very much. Stay healthy everyone. GOD bless you 😇
Your lecture helped me a lot, Thank you so much. With due respect I would like to correct you, Indian is not a language Hindi is the language that is spoken by Indians.
Thank you! I enjoyed watching your video. I have one comment: why didn't you add French as an example. It is not an official language nor a national one, but this language is widely spoken in Algeria and still the medium of instruction in our third level of education. English also seems to be gaining a growing sociolinguistic position... Best wishes
@@HM-English Algeria has only two official languages: Arabic and Tamazight. French isn't. it can be rather called it a local one since it is used a lot particularly in the administrative sector as you've said.
@@afafriahi9966 It is not stated overtly due to some political reasons, but since you implement a language in your administration ( meaning official papers) it is an official language (whether it is explicitly said by the gvtmnt or not) I know it can be quite confusing, but if you have studied postcolonialism or postcolonial theories it would be much simpler to grasp. PS: if your teacher said it's not, in your exam you also say it's not)
Whatever it is, this language is a reality in Algeria and we can not just ignore it. Also it is a beautiful language if the ideologies behind its use are kept away.
Language and identity are closely intertwined in sociolinguistics, the study of the relationship between language and society. Language and identity can be understood as follows: Language: A system of communication that consists of sounds, words, grammar, and meaning. It is learned and used by members of a speech community to convey information, thoughts, and emotions. Identity: The qualities, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that make a person who they are and distinguish them from others. In sociolinguistics, language and identity are seen as mutually reinforcing. For example, a person's choice of language can reflect and reinforce their identity, and their identity can also shape the way they use language. Examples of how language reflects and reinforces identity: Dialect: A regional or social variation of a language characterized by unique linguistic features such as pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. For example, a person's dialect can reflect their regional or social background, such as the Southern US dialect, or African American Vernacular English. Code-switching: The ability to switch between different languages or dialects depending on context. For example, a person may switch from speaking Spanish at home to speaking English at work, reflecting a dual identity as both a Spanish-speaking and English-speaking person. Examples of how identity shapes language use: Bilingualism: A person who is fluent in more than one language may choose to use one language over another depending on the audience and context, reflecting their sense of belonging and identity in different social contexts. Style: A person's language style, including their tone, choice of words, and sentence structure, can reflect their social status, level of education, and cultural background. Overall, language and identity are complex and interrelated concepts in sociolinguistics, as the way people use language can reveal important information about their social, cultural and personal identities.

French is a language that Algeria uses in administration therefore, it is an official language.
