    Perfect! My kickstand was suddenly able to be rotated 360° and therefore was not able to hold the bike up. I got tired of having to lean it against trees and fences. I got the parts that I needed from customer service but they came without any instructions. After staring at them and the bike for several minutes I searched for a demonstration on TH-cam. Your video was exactly the instruction that I needed! Well done! Thank you so much!

    Awesome video with great detail! Both of my vintage Schwinn Fastbacks have the pin installed backward, head is showing. No wonder they don't work properly.

    So here are the tools you’ll need. First you need this very rare specialized tool they don’t make anymore. Sooo you lost me at step one. Can I take the kick stand off without it?

    hey there,not a bad video but you you didnt mention and what i cant find in any other videos ,is what problems might occur with this type of kick stand,such as the problem i have with the bike im working on ,that the stand its self doesnt stop,just goes around.the pin you mention it seamed really sort that it didnt catch on the notches.so i replaced it with just the right leingh the pin but now the assembly doesn't go in far enough that i can reinstall the little hold in pin,the bar .But so thats how its supposed to work right,the pin rolls on those notches

      Honda200TwinStar, If your kickstand does a complete rotation it may be either of two things. The first and most likely is that the kickstand housing is rounded inside. The housing is the painted bracket that is welded onto the frame. In time, that can be worn and the cam will rotate causing your kickstand to rotate and not stop as it should. The fix for this problem was Schwinn made a Kickstand repair kit. What it was, was a washer with a tab that was placed at the end of the housing on the outside and then a screw was inserted through the cam and threaded into this washer to hold the cam from rotating. You may need to shop at an older shop for this part or fabricate one yourself. The second cause for your problem might be your cam is worn out and needs to be replaced. I hope this helps.

      Hey there thanks for the reply .i notest the pin wasnt riding in the notches.to short ,so i fond a steel rod .right diamitor ,drove it in after geting old one out.but my probblem i ran into was when i reincerted the kick stand,it stock out farther then what i can see yours does before out compressed it.had a hell of a time rassaleing (not enough mussles in my arm lol) to get it to compressed enough to get the retaining pin place.anyhow it seams to be holding and working.

      the insert seen from the other side can be removed just use a punch and hammer and put back in the proper direction. i just had the same problem with a frame.

    I need some help, please. My old Schwinn has this built in kickstand. I dont have the tools to remove it. I bought another kickstand that you can just screw on the frame. Does anyone' know what type of tool I can use to cut this broken kickstand off?

    rich I have a kickstand like that on a newer cruiser bike. it rotates forward, makes bike fall...sometimes on my car!! how can I fix that? Thank you

    • @richl3364
      @richl3364  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rumrunr, you indicate that you have a new cruiser and I was not aware of the old-style kickstand on a new bike. I will assume you have the old style as is shown in my video. What you will need to do is remove the kickstand to inspect the position of the cam that is located inside the kickstand housing. Now to remove the kickstand you may need to view a TH-cam on this procedure without the proper tool that I show. Please understand that this can be crude and may cause paint damage. When you are able to get to the cam note its position in the housing and then inspect for damage. If the position is correct and no damage you will need to reposition the kickstand into the housing as it may have been incorrectly installed. This means positioning the kickstand so that the dowel pin which is attached to the kickstand is placed into the cam to give you the proper rotation. I hope this does not confuse you to much and best of luck.

    Hey there Rich, I have one of those kickstands on my bike. What is the tool called? Because my kickstand has become very loose and almost hits the ground even when I kick it up. It just falls right to the ground

    How's it going? I'm having an issue with a similar kickstand on a 66 Stingray. It's not stopping where its supposed to, it's going to far and not locking into place. Because of that I can't use the kickstand, do you think it's the cam? If I find one and replace it do you think it will solve the problem I'm having? Thank you.

    • @richl3364
      @richl3364  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Irocit z, it sounds like you may have the cam rotated incorrectly, what you will need to do is pull the kickstand out and rotate the cam 1/3 turn. Then replace the kickstand. If this does not work repeat the above steps with one more 1/3 turn. Make sure you rotate in the same direction each time which will give you a new cam position each time. Note the cam can only be positioned in 3 places in the housing. You must select the correct one of the 3. I hope this helps if not let me know and I will try to get you through it. rl.bikeservice

      @@richl3364 thanks very much, I'm gonna give it a try. That removal tool you have there looks like the way to go, I'm probably gonna have to do it with a crescent wrench like I saw in another video until I find one. I'll let you know how it goes.

      @@richl3364 How's it going? So it took me awhile but I had an unexpected issue. I realized the bike must have had the wrong size kickstand, it was 1 inch too long. Once I removed it I found my other bikes all had the same size except the one I had the issue with. I wound up getting the correct size and the bike is now standing on its own for the first time since I've had it. Sometime before I got the bike someone must have changed the original kickstand for the wrong size and just left it that way.
