I agree, players are gonna flock to this since Imba league was fun to watch. It provided variety in ways. But this introducing a new race will make them boycott the leagues untill they add this.
A couple of things about the Hybrid: 1) Their shields are a little bit different then the Protoss` ones: they work as armor against abilities as well (storm, snipe shot etc.) The white part on the Hybrid units healthbar represents those shields. 2) Their Energy (light blue bar) is called Network. Most of Hybrid units` powerful attacks or abilities have the Network price. It regenerates naturally, but very, VERY slowly. The regeneration rate is greatly increased when in range of an Ionic Pylon, which makes them great in defending. The only unit who can restore Network in the field is Screamer, also it`s the only unit with "classic" Energy bar. 3) You can play for the Hybrid very easily! In "Custom" menu click "Melee". Choose any map. Click the "Create with mod" button. In the search bar enter "Hybid Network Race". Set the A.I. opponent as you wish it and you`re good to go! P.S. I highly recommend playing/casting the Keiron race. It`s the winner of Alex`s "Fourth race Contest".
So that means you can bring some ionic pylons with your army for extra spell energy? They don't even need to "burrow" again, looks like the aura is still displayed when they're mobile.
@@stroborobo I could easily be wrong but it seems like the pylons need to stay burrowed to reach full power. There's a 60-second channel that Lowko showed a few times. My guess is that the pylon is much less useful until that finishes, and that moving resets it.
Hybrid seems a bit overloaded. I think sticking to the theme of "insanely powerful but very few units" would have been a bit more balanced. I also don't think things like cloaking fit the Hybrid theme. They're supposed to be powerful enough to not need any cloaking shenanigans. And besides, all the second Hybrid player did is run around with his cloaked army; that's not very fun. My criticisms aside, though, it really is impressive how someone created an entire new race with its own production, building and tech systems out of bits and pieces from around the campaigns and actually managed to make it not completely one-sided.
Cloaking etc skills are fine in my opinion but should require research (and some nerf like, unit can't get cloack for xxx amount of time since last aura etc.), I think those units just come out with abilities without any requirements, without any need to research which made them OP at many levels. Overall they should add more research dependent skills, like move their buildings, shouldn't be available from the beginning etc. Also I feel like too many hybrids can attack air and ground, which also adds the next brick to imbalance. But, yeh really impressive how they made this race overall :D Also for me those units are to flashy, it make sense in campaign etc to have this flashy unit, to make it feel "strong" or "ancient" or whatever, but when we have many of those on screen it is just mess :)
This caught me off guard, am incredibly stoked! Have not been this excited for a new race since the *Scrin* ! I like to think that the Starcraft Intern pulled some strings to make this happen... Thank you for sharing this!
Lowko, there are even 3 MORE extra races that I would consider to be even higher quality in terms of asset polish and balance, Solstice 245's Scion Custom races. He made two of those races, Genetron (Terran Mech inspired) and Xayid (Zerg inspired) over some years, and just finished his Protoss inspired race, the Keiron, for Alex's contest. Please check them out and showcase them on your channel!
during the contest it was desided that Keiron will be developed further. Currently that faction feels a bit underpowered, but that is going to be fixed
@@WindLighter I played the version submitted for the contest in a custom melee and they seemed very interesting and well made. And I feel like since it's a totally new race it will take time to unlock its full potential, people aren't used to playing it yet. I'd rather a race seem underpowered at first than OP-- people will improve with it over time.

you should have seen the other races in the contest. There was a Mech terran race that had a unit which had a range of basically 2 and a half screens (around half of a standard map). Its easier to make an OP race so that everyone plays it and slowly nerf it until people start going back and thats when you know you have a good race as opposed to noone playing it cuase its too weak and then you get no real feedback on the race so in terms of design that is a better way to do it.

French-derived Latin competes with Germanic Latin competes with Anglo-Saxon derived words and so on. For example, in French, you have beef (boeuf) which refers to both the animal and the meat. English got separate words because of the Norman invasion. English colonialism brought back new words, new phrases, new ideas and thus English expanded to use them all. It's the largest language in terms of vocab AFAIK.
lots of these are assets in the editor, but much of them are custom-made either by people on sc2mapster or the mod maker. lots of them, too, are made by combining existing and custom models, like the hybrid head on the infested terran body with the zealot wireframe to create the "warrior."

Lowko, as an active Alex007 subscriber, I really hope that you have some replays of the Keiron race being played against vanilla races. That race is much simpler in the gameplay, though still has some pretty fun gameplay features. You must cast them. I really want to hear your reaction on the Keiron race, because your thoughts on hybrids actually matched the complains about them - too confusing, and hard to follow when spectating, and thoo many effects. And they were also MUCH stronger in some cases where they must not have been. TL;DR: Give us some Keiron replays Lowko!!!!! =Ъ
This reminds me of Warcraft 3 where I spent hours in the map editor to make a series of games for me and my brother where we could play as Naga. Also the screamers look exactly like the Nether Rays from the Warcraft universe.
You can combine different models using the mapmaker when creating assets for units. It's likely that the person who made this race either found models that were only of hybrid torsos, or made them himself and Combined them with other existing units so they didn't have to make their own animations. You can adjust the shading and hue of models in the editor as well, so the race-maker just did a really really good job of blending the colors together. All around this is awesome.
Also, if I understood the game mechanics correctly, Network is like creep for the hybrid, since a lot of their powerful abilities require the unit to have that energy, but it's only charged in range of their pylons. So like zerg, the hybrid player would want to have their side of the map with their pylons covering a lot of the area.
I'd love to see more custom race tourneys like this be more common! I really find it more interesting to sometimes see new content like this then to see the same races over and over again.

In SC2 we find out that he's a Xel'Naga working for Cthul'hu...er, Amon, and that the purpose of combining Zerg and Protoss was to make something powerful enough to serve as a body for him.
LOOKS LIKE people is taking matter in their OWN HANDS! SC2 will rebirth with the passion of the community! It is a very well made race, and you can tell they remodeled many pre existing structures and units for the race.

I really love all your casting for StarCraft series i always learn alot from you. I have never played the game competitively as i only played campaigns over and over because IT IS that FUN. But your casting make me wanna try playing multiplayer and I don't know where to start in terms of tactics.
Well, well, well. I visited Alex's channel. Quick info. There are 3 additional races. Hybrids are Protoss like and there is Terran like race and 3th race, they look like robots. Alex had 4h contest on his stream with multiple battles. The viewers were the judges.
amazing what the mod communities are able to do for games. who knows, maybe in 10 years there will be a fanmade Hybrid campaign with lore of each unit's strain/mutation
Network is not a global recourse it functions like energy but regenerates near pylons, so defender's advantage for hybrids is that their powerful abilities can be cast more frequently at home. I think structures also have network and they spend it to speed up production

My thoughts are that early econ harassment would be needed due to the high cost of the army, but if they can get early units on the field too, that makes it tough. Harstem IMBA videos will be great
Hey Lowko. There is something similar to this mod that adds a number of other races, including several hybrid races. I have a few vids on it if youre interested. It is called "The Ultimate Mode of Erls", and has it's own lore apparently. It is supposed to happen in an alternate timeline where Amon wins all races split into separate factions to fight for control of whatever is left of the universe.

About your math question regarding the difficulity of balance for adding a fourth race, it is called curse of dimensionality. It is a major old problem in many data science applications.
It would actually be a great idea to add a new race in SC2. I've imagined this for so long but maybe it should be something different from Hybrids, something new but I still like it very much, that so cool😊
Lowko the white section of the health bars are like shields. That's what Network is, I believe. So each unit gets a growing shield while in Network range. It seems like the Hybrid race was built around passive/defensive play. Build up an army, build up Network, for one big push.

Unit are too fast too much range the invisibility is broken and should at least be a T3 upgrade. The aoe silence shouldn’t be an aoe, he just disabled 3 distruptors with 1 bubble Unit should have energy even if it doesn’t regenerate the same way so that feedback is possible. Having the starting unit reach the Zerg so soon and also being so fast that even zergling on creep couldn’t catch up to it is totally OP. It’s already hitting air and ground with damage better than zealots it seems But yeah for something done in a month it’s nice even if it seems broken in the rights hands
so watching this, i got an idea Apparently Minions can build up, so I would proxy a pylon on the low ground on the 3rd/4th(low ground) base and build a bvoid rift inside the main base(high ground). and of course to get high ground vision I just need another minion to switch to a spirit. Or just proxy the pylon inside and build a construct, and since the pylon can move you can build keep the construct alive as long as you want

on the topic of the scouting part i would like to point out, that you also cant spot what units a zerg can build by looking at their production structure (aka. the hatchery). meaning if you want to find out, what kind of units your enemy is making, you will have to scout for tech not for production, just like it is with zerg.
I wanted to see a hybrid themed co-op commander where you are developing a super powerful hybrid unit mostly putting resources into research and depending on how much research you put in before you release the hybrid from containment it changes how powerful of a unit you make and that is the hybrid you have for the rest of the game.

Just for your information Lowko, the majority of the races in the mod contest(including the hybrid one) were already made before. And there is a lot of models that aren't in the campaigns nor coop.
Feels like some units should count as much more bodies than what they are since they are way too OP. The idea of the Hybrid being very depend of their base could be the trade off from their op powers, but would create very turtle game. Seeing the Zerg units getting owned so easily in the early game is very scary.... Looking forward to the development of the race that has always been fear by all of the other races. In my perspective, it should have not much units, but very op units which takes a long time to create and need a lot of populations points.
Looks like it’s supposed to be a bit of a glass cannon race: abilities require network energy (which is also health) which can only be regenerated inside a pylon field. So they have enough for a short engagement, but then have to pull back to recharge. At least that’s the theory, but they have a bit too much energy and are a bit to strong. More attacks need to use energy, and they need to use more of it.
Hybrid ~ Proto-erg / Zertoss animation really cool 😎 Units powerful but complex. Tricky to get the right spell casters with the correct support units for opposition.
22:17 (You asked) I'd like to see like some sort of workshop where people collaborate and create a community that creates more races and they work together on such projects to diversify the gameplay. I'd like to see different factions. When the Tel'Razim (Alarak's people) came in, I thought that was pretty cool

Revenants Multi didn't make it into top 3 because only one hybrid mod could make it, but it does exactly what you're saying.

Hybrid in lore is made out of zerg and protoss i think. So it makes sense they look like a protoss. Also cool race!

Well, well, well. I visited Alex's channel. Quick info. There are 3 additional races. Hybrids are Protoss like and there is Terran like race and 3th race, they look like robots. Alex had 4h contest on his stream with multiple battles. The viewers were the judges.
amazing what the mod communities are able to do for games. who knows, maybe in 10 years there will be a fanmade Hybrid campaign with lore of each unit's strain/mutation
Network is not a global recourse it functions like energy but regenerates near pylons, so defender's advantage for hybrids is that their powerful abilities can be cast more frequently at home. I think structures also have network and they spend it to speed up production
Omg i watch Alex007 and I am so happy Lowko knows about this. There was actually a contest with a ton of races and there were 3 finalists which were voted for by Alex's audience. Please make more videos with Alex007 as I would love to see that.
My thoughts are that early econ harassment would be needed due to the high cost of the army, but if they can get early units on the field too, that makes it tough. Harstem IMBA videos will be great

Hey Lowko. There is something similar to this mod that adds a number of other races, including several hybrid races. I have a few vids on it if youre interested. It is called "The Ultimate Mode of Erls", and has it's own lore apparently. It is supposed to happen in an alternate timeline where Amon wins all races split into separate factions to fight for control of whatever is left of the universe.

About your math question regarding the difficulity of balance for adding a fourth race, it is called curse of dimensionality. It is a major old problem in many data science applications.
It's like protoss borg assimilated a bunch of zerg units and map critters.
It would actually be a great idea to add a new race in SC2. I've imagined this for so long but maybe it should be something different from Hybrids, something new but I still like it very much, that so cool😊

Lowko the white section of the health bars are like shields. That's what Network is, I believe. So each unit gets a growing shield while in Network range.
It seems like the Hybrid race was built around passive/defensive play. Build up an army, build up Network, for one big push.

Unit are too fast too much range the invisibility is broken and should at least be a T3 upgrade.
The aoe silence shouldn’t be an aoe, he just disabled 3 distruptors with 1 bubble
Unit should have energy even if it doesn’t regenerate the same way so that feedback is possible.
Having the starting unit reach the Zerg so soon and also being so fast that even zergling on creep couldn’t catch up to it is totally OP. It’s already hitting air and ground with damage better than zealots it seems
But yeah for something done in a month it’s nice even if it seems broken in the rights hands

Apparently Minions can build up, so I would proxy a pylon on the low ground on the 3rd/4th(low ground) base and build a bvoid rift inside the main base(high ground). and of course to get high ground vision I just need another minion to switch to a spirit.
Or
just proxy the pylon inside and build a construct, and since the pylon can move you can build keep the construct alive as long as you want

on the topic of the scouting part i would like to point out, that you also cant spot what units a zerg can build by looking at their production structure (aka. the hatchery). meaning if you want to find out, what kind of units your enemy is making, you will have to scout for tech not for production, just like it is with zerg.

I wanted to see a hybrid themed co-op commander where you are developing a super powerful hybrid unit mostly putting resources into research and depending on how much research you put in before you release the hybrid from containment it changes how powerful of a unit you make and that is the hybrid you have for the rest of the game.

Just for your information Lowko, the majority of the races in the mod contest(including the hybrid one) were already made before. And there is a lot of models that aren't in the campaigns nor coop.

Feels like some units should count as much more bodies than what they are since they are way too OP. The idea of the Hybrid being very depend of their base could be the trade off from their op powers, but would create very turtle game. Seeing the Zerg units getting owned so easily in the early game is very scary....
Looking forward to the development of the race that has always been fear by all of the other races.
In my perspective, it should have not much units, but very op units which takes a long time to create and need a lot of populations points.
Looks like it’s supposed to be a bit of a glass cannon race: abilities require network energy (which is also health) which can only be regenerated inside a pylon field. So they have enough for a short engagement, but then have to pull back to recharge. At least that’s the theory, but they have a bit too much energy and are a bit to strong. More attacks need to use energy, and they need to use more of it.

Units powerful but complex. Tricky to get the right spell casters with the correct support units for opposition.

I'd like to see different factions. When the Tel'Razim (Alarak's people) came in, I thought that was pretty cool
