The BEST Bull Riders in the World!? - th-cam.com/video/RJRO6FUDMrE/w-d-xo.html
Lane Frost! The best in the world!
There hand is strapped to the bull, an there is deaths in this sport, the money can be good, but starting out. You have to pay to ride. A buddy of mine in Ohio is a amateur bull rider. He spends more money than wins.
Btw they have a term for when a bulls horn goes up the riders rear end its called a ivory enema
There are deaths but believe it or not they are super rare.. The vest they wear protect their insides... Some wear helmets now to protect their empty melons.... lol...
And those other four cowboys you kept seeing are called rodeo clowns. There job is to get the rider's hand out of the strap then keep the bull's attention long enough to for the rider to get clear.
Lane Frost died in a competition, when the bull charged him breaking a rib that punctured his heart. He was considered to be one of the greatest bull riders to ever live and died at only 25 years of age. Lane is one of the main reasons they wear those protective vests now.
I thought it was the lung
It was his lung and still to this day is considered the goat
@@panitehunter7884 I wouldn't consider him the GOAT. He was very good, he died young and they made a movie about him and a number of songs. But there are several others as good or better.
@@nod4eight945 yes he was taken away at a young age and yes only won one world he was winning every major event he was winning the averages he was riding bulls that nobody else could ride. Hadley Barrett it's even quoted during Lane's error (before lanes death) say ing there's no one else like him and did his young age he is already set the bar for future generations to try and reach and build a whole new standard of bull riding. He changed bull riding and rodeo in and out of the arena. Three short years after his death he was inducted into the pro cowboy Hall of Fame as the youngest and the quickest to ever be inducted
And again I agree 100%. There have been other legends other greats there's some still competing today but there's been none better when you think of basketball you think of Michael Jordan when you think of golf you think a tiger woods when you think of baseball you think of babe Ruth when you think of bull riding you think of Lane Frost and you're correct also they did make a movie about him they have wrote songs about him there's a reason behind that
@@panitehunter7884 you are obviously a huge fan of his. That's great. I still won't say he's the GOAT. And I continue to say he's romanticized because of his early death. It's ok to have differing opinions on it.
I went to college with a guy that was a bull rider. I asked him exactly what was the motivation of jumping onto the back of one ton of pissed off cow. His response was "I don't know, it's fun".
I grew up in a rodeo family. It was just something in the blood/drive to compete. It started with my grandfather, then my uncle and father down to me. My son never got the bug thank God.
It's hard to explain buy its like a drug it's addicting , my brother n my dad both rope..n its hard to explain..
My cousin dared me to ride in the county rodeo got a crash course and went2 times 2 years longest time 2 seconds scariest and funnest time ever but man it is no joke
I think they can make pretty good money doing this but short career.
I knew a guy that started riding bulls after his roping partner committed suicide.

@@xichen8358 100% Truth "No Bull".(Pun Intended)
@Mr Free1 • 18 years ago • What is that difference? Baseball is a game and a sport.
Golf. My favorite sport. When that guy ran over happy Gilmore he could've died. And remember chubbs lost a hand to an alligator and then his life to the gators hand.
I love the way the Irish talk. "Surely he's goin' ta doy!"
BTW, these bulls are pampered athletes worth huge money and have fans. This is utterly the opposite of bullfighting.
yep, while everyone else is outside sweating, they are chilling in air conditioned trailers with padded floors, fresh water on demand and the best food available. They get their hooves trimmed, they get groomed and the best vet care possible. They get led out, go through the chute, work for less than a minute, then go back to their dinner. Each one of the bulls get scores too.
@@ldens6694 Plus, when the bull does his "job", it's like the playground to him. And they get to take turns breeding. Pampered.
Thank you for pointing this out, I’m an animal rights supporter and even I know how well they are treated. Absolutely nothing harmful at all, well at least for the bull.
@@hookedonreactions7649 same here. I'm not a fan of using animals for entertainment in this way, but... even I know how well they are treated and how much they also seem to enjoy this sport.
The bulls also get acupuncture and myofacial massages and whatnot. Super pampered and some are worth a few million, not counting stud fees.
The scores are 50/50. Gotta have a good bull who swaps up bucking styles every second and is super active bucking. Or bucking while spilling the rider into a 'well' that is super dangerous. The more dangerous the bucking is, the higher the score.
"Is he holding on?" Well yes and no. The rope that the rider holds onto has rosin on it to make it sticky so their gloves can stick to it better and allow them to maintain better grip. When a rider comes off at an odd angle, or they wrap the rope around the glove really tightly they can get stuck when thrown. The fighters, those guys running around the bull are trying to distract the bull and dislodge the riders hand from the rope. Their job is to protect the rider even if it means putting themselves in danger.
You're right but there is a little more involved in it. They usually get stuck when they get bucked off the wrong side. For example, if they're holding on with their right hand they need to try and fall off on the right side of the bull. If they fall off on the left side of the bull it causes the rope to tighten around their hand resulting in them getting stuck. Only way of getting it out is by pulling on the rope. They can also help themselves by loosing the rope before getting bucked off on the wrong side.
They also could have been suicide wrapping
Randy Woodall thank you. That’s exactly right. It all depends on the wrap.
@@randywoodall6770Yes, a suicide wrap is when the rider wraps the rope around all of his hand but the pinky finger. The reason it is called a suicide wrap, is because you have to pull the rope to get the hand out. That is why the bullfighters are jumping on the bull or pulling the rope when a rider is hung up.
Them fukers got my repect
Never considered how strange these types of events seem from the outside😂 going to the local arena and seeing bull riding and monster trucks with my dad was just normal and totally awesome!
They're nothing I've ever gone to, but for me they're just something that's like, "well yeah, a lot of people do that."
Imagine if this dude reacted to a compilation of demo derbies that went into flames
They aren't strange, outsiders are the strange ones.
God bless America!
They also have “Cowboy Poker” where 4 guys sit around a table and they turn a bull loose. Last man sitting at the table wins!
I actually have a vid of a guy getting a hood mauling at the rodeo I went to a while back
Holy shit
Yeah buddy. A little bull poker ♠️
Cowboy pin ball is pretty good too
True story from western Canada (we have the same rodeos up here as well. It's not just an American thing, although they have the luxury of doing it darned near all year round). Many years ago I was the boss on a construction site. One day during lunch break we were all gathered together and started talking about some of the more dangerous things we had done in our lives. One of the young fellows told us that he was a bull rider in every rodeo he could get to. I told him that the scariest thing I had ever done was to jump out of an airplane. The young bull rider speaks up and literally said to me: "Jumped out of an airplane? You're crazy... you could get hurt doing that!" 🤣
Lmao
Ha Ha! I’ve jumped out of an airplane too. - Best, adrenaline rush I’ve ever had I’m a woman Bull-riding - Not on your life!
The difference is that bull riding started in the USA in 1910s, Brahma bulls in the 1930s. All I could find with a date for Canada is 2006. That's a long history difference. I tried different wording and I don't accept that as a hard start date, but can't find anything else. After 15-20 minutes of searching. So you shouldn't be so offended if people talk about it being in the USA. Like he said it started in Mexico, like in the 1600s! There's such a long list of countries that do it. No one is saying it belongs to or is exclusive to the USA. Apparently there are stupid, reckless people, with a death wish, everywhere!
Hey Adam, i ride bulls as well as play hockey (i'm from canada so the two are pretty big here) but i wanted a video like this for awhile!! In the sport of bull riding we have a saying: it's not if you get hurt its when and how bad!
Also i'll point some things out for the vid,
- at 3:10 that's Pistol Robinson and he broke both his legs in that wreck
- at 4:04 Brent Thurman died from that wreck, the bull stepped on his head. He's one of three cowboys that have died riding bulls professionally
- at 5:37 thats "bull riding" in mexico, its different that bull riding in Canada and America
- at 5:49 thats Zeb Lanham at the Calgary Stampede (the same city as the Calgary Flames!) they didn't show the full wreck but he got threw about 15 feet in the air
- for your question at 9:10, they're trying to free his hand. We call that getting hung up, your hand gets stuck in your rope and when you're flopping around its hard to get it out
hopefully the video intrigued your interest in the sport;)
My 3 sons also ride and play hockey. Good luck to you and remember keep your head up and your stick on the ice, and throw your leg over and keep your mind in the middle . be safe and fun
@@bam2035 I'm sorry, but the phrase "Be safe" is incomprehensible in relation to bull riding.
Thanks for the info!
No its not, thats why riders practice over and over. They dont just wake up and jump on a bull, especially in the pbr. Thats the top of the top. Injuries do happen, however thats in every sport.
i also ride bulls and i wish yall luck up there im in dequencey

Rodeo joke: Why do cowboys make lousy lovers? They think 8 seconds is long enough.
Ba du bum
Got one for you. Why do cowboys have big belt buckles? Tombstone for a dead prick 😉
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Now that’s funny 👍
Ever heard of rodeo sex? That's when at the moment of glory you call your wife by someone else's name, brother if you can hold on to that for 8 seconds you can hold on to anything.
Being from Texas and someone who LOVES to go to rodeos and PBR events, you had me crying laughing! 🤣 Please do more bull riding reactions and maybe interview reactions of some of the best PBR stars about their passion for the sport and how they train! ❤️🐂
They have to stay on for 8 seconds for it to qualify as a ride. Just good old fashioned American fun.
Daniel Huffman See, now that makes way more sense to me than bull riding. Riding a horse to break it has an actual purpose vs... this.
Unfortunately present bull riding is actually an offshoot of a type of Mexican bull fighting(from as early as the 1500s) where they literally rode the bull to death.
Bull riding goes as far back as the Minoan culture; the present “American” form is based on ancient bull fighting in Mexico and is also a sport in Australia, Brazil, and about 20 other countries.
Side note: Those rodeo clowns are badasses.
@@j_g9109 where are you from? Bulls in America's are touted. They aren't like the fighting bulls in Spain. Not a single bull is killed from the sport. You draw your bull. Not everyone rides the same bull.
socomsix27 Regardless of where I live, I know how to research before speaking about something.
Did you even read my first comment. I said present bull riding is an “offshoot of a type Mexican bull fighting from as early as the 1500s where they literally ride the bull to death”. The second comment was just a shortened version of the first.
Modern US bull *riding* is an *offshoot* of _past_ *Mexican* bull *fighting.* There’s a clear separation of _modern_ US bull *riding* and Mexican bull *fighting* from the 1500s...
You mean to say its good ol cowboy/vaquero fun regardless if it was originated in Mexico and just made into a sport here in the U.S but breaking unbreakable horses IS WILD but RIDING BULLS well that ...... thats just POETIC 😁😁😁😁
2 absolute facts in life ive learned the hardway...
1) dont try to out drink an Irishman
2) NEVER fist fight a rodeo clown.
FYI: The guys distracting the bull are the rodeo clowns. They traditionally dress in clown outfits and entertainment the crowds at the same time as they are trying to assist the rider.
The clowns are there to distract the bull so that the rider can get away. They are really important.
Most of the riders in these clips are in trouble because their hand has become cinched to the bull too tight to release. The clowns, also called bull fighters, are working to 1) distract attention, 2) release the rider, 3) release the rope tied around the bulls balls, which calms them down (hopefully).
@@howyadoin2375 no rope around bulls balls
How many attempts at each did you make before you leaned your lessons?
@@Cody2nd Not around the balls.
Ok Adam. Knowledge on bull riding. The goal is to stay on for 8 seconds and “look” like you are in control of yourself. What those guys are doing jumping on it trying to release the riders rope. The riders use a rope with something like sap to lock their grip at where they think the middle of the bulls spin to try and make the 8 seconds. The way that you become a bull rider is when you are young and you think about getting on a bull for the first time you take a handful of marbles and stick it in your mouth. Every time after that that you think about getting on a bull you spit out a marble and when you’ve completely lost your marbles then you are a bull rider. There are a number of deaths from bull riding probably the most famous of those is Lane Frost (movie “8 seconds” was made about him). You should go watch some wrecks from “Red Rock” the bull that killed Lane Frost. It’s an amazing sport and the thing I like most about it is that I can’t feel the pain of those choices.
Red Rock didn’t kill Lane Frost it was a Brahma bull names “Taking care of business.” Lane Frost was the first to stick Red Rock though.
"...lost your marbles...."
I freakin' lost it...!!
😂🤣😂🤣
Lane Frost rode for 91 points on his last ride.
The name of the bull that killed lane frost was takin care of business.
Completely lost your marbles, too funny!!

July In Cheyenne (A song for Lane's Momma)
by Aaron Watson
In the rain in the mud in july in Cheyenne
They had to carry away that brave young man
A little part of every heart of every rodeo fan
died there in the rain in the mud in July in Cheyenne
Looking back it doesn't seem so long ago, he was bigger than life
God rest his soul
Why he died that day is hard to understand
right there in the rain, in the mud, in July, in Cheyenne
Chorus
So tip your hat to the cowboy every once in awhile and take time to remember
that cowboy's smile
A little part of every heart of every rodeo fan died there in the rain
in the mud in july in Cheyenne
No buckles on a shelf collecting dust, still his memory shines inside of
all of us
some miss their hero, some miss their friend, his mom and dad
long to see their little boy again.
chorus
In the rain in the mud in July in Cheyenne
They had to carry away that brave young man
If you're washed in the blood someday you'll see
him again, it won't be in the rain, in the mud, in July, in Cheyenne
Your right about being bored and the beer, but it wasn’t the guy that said “ I want to” it was his buddy that said “ I double dog dare you “ 😂
and that guy said here hold my beer lol
You're not wrong. That's how it all stemmed from. A guy said "I can last on one of them unruly beasts." "Oh yeah?" "Yeah." And people wanted to see it. And someone got the idea to have people pay to see it. That's how it started, really.
Never under estimate the power of testosterone poisoning. lol
Your wrong again it was the guy that said lets rubber band his balls then you ride him
Nope take the meanest bull and say hey y'all watch this
I used to unprofessionally ride bulls when I was a young man... I'm in my 40's now and have already had spine surgery with more in the future... The goal is to ride for 8 sec.And not fall off.. They get judged based on how well they rode the bull... I have done this With broken bones and torn muscles.. This was a game that the old Mexican cowboys would do for fun and they would lay challenges to each other to see who could do it better... It all progressed from there... This is what Americans (not just the southern states) do for fun... It's as brutal as you think and A LOT more fun... Unlike Portuguese bull fighting these bulls are worth A LOT OF MONEY and treated like kings and NEVER killed.... Oh.... and they ONLY make money (highest score from judges) IF they win and it's usually not a huge amount either.... Man I miss those days.....
Feel for you I've already had 3 knees surgeries, 3 shoulder surgeries, one back and one spleen. Neck surgury up in the next few month
If I could do it over would I? Yep but probably twice as much as I did when I was young
Best rush there is.
Loved your comment, but had to clarify something. Spain kills the bulls and Portugal does not kill the bull. I'm American, but my step grandmother was a 2nd generation Portuguese American and she would always stress that to us. She was very proud of the fact that the Portuguese did not kill the bull. And she loved throwing shade to Spain about how barbaric they were because they killed the bull. lol
And the best part is these bulls don't have a reputation even close to the infamous Bodacious.

not exactly. it all started when they would want to mate an aggressive bull. if they didn't wear the bull out the bull could kill the cow. so the ranch hands rode it to the ground. well they had to learn how to do it as safely as possible thus it became something that they did in their free time to practice...and a sport was born.

OK, this is a crazy sport, but you have to watch an entire competition (bull riding event from start to finish). These are amazing athletes (bulls, riders, and clowns-they are the ones who jump in to save the riders who get in trouble). I live on the east end of Long Island, about 2 hours east of New York City and try to make it a point to hop on a train and head into Madison Square Garden in NYC to attend the PBR events. For my 60th birthday, my children bought me an opportunity to go down in the ring to watch it from ground level (PBR sets up a round raised platform in front of where the the bull and rider get released and a few people can sit under the platform and watch the competition unfold right in front of you). Ummmmm, you can feel the bull’s power through your feet and butt. That’s as close as I ever want to be - it is almost overwhelming. I give them all a huge amount of credit for their skill and toughness. By the way, the riders try to select the most notorious bulls since their score is not only determined by surviving the ride for the full duration, but also on the bull’s performance and the rider’s style. Don’t just focus on the wrecks! That’s like going to to a car race and only paying attention to the collisions-there’s a whole lot more to appreciate.
The Professional Rodeo circuit is very real and a very serious sport. Just like all other, the best of the best compete, going from state to state until the winning qualifiers reach the Big event. A lot of money is to be earned if you win. A Cowboy pays out a lot of money to compete. Bull Riding is just one of many events. It should get more exposure for people to know and understand it. These Cowboys and Cowgirls deserve mad respect. My late father was All Around Cowboy for the State of Louisiana in the late 60’s. His career ended when he took a horn through his hip.
A great bull rider is: short, strong upper body, and high pain tolerance.
It is one hell of a talent.
The real Hero’s are the Clowns. If not for them, there would be a lot more injuries/deaths.
A lot of nasty, short and bow legged cowboys.
except in most pro sports, you still get paid if you lose.

Some of the bulls absolutely know it's a game. Bodacius was one of the best and learned a special move to crack a riders skull like an egg. He would take a victory lap around the arena, basking in the cheers of the audience before returning to the pen. The bulll on the ranch I work at is a big baby though, he comes up and wants you to scratch his head, but just a loving nudge, rubbing his head against you can knock you flying.

"Why would he stand in front of it?" The bright shirts--used to be called rodeo clowns--they distract the bull to let the rider escape.
bulls are color blind, they react more to the movement.
Disciple 16: true, the clown costumes and makeup was mostly for our entertainment but they did serve a purpose. All the contrasting light & dark colors, crazy face paint, and wild outfits distracted the bull so the rider could get away. I liked it better w/the clowns. Those guy were real badasses! And they made the sport a lot more fun to watch. They were the stars of the show back then. I even remember the their trading cards.

Yeah sure just go down there and tell that 2000+ lb bull to calm down and chill..he will listen..lol. you see those men down there trying to help the rider.. that's their job.. and they have a very rough go at it and often get smashed by those living locomotives coming crashing down upon them.. The crowd stays put..where it is safer.... well usually...theres been a few where the bull has decided to join the fans on the stands... you should watch that next.
I'm sure the bull would react so lovely to Karen telling it to just calm down.
The crowd go's quiet to keep the bull calm as possible when they see a wreck start to help the riders get safely away
Once the chaffing belt loosens on the bull most of them calm down significantly.

I love this, unlike bullfighting these guys can totally kick the ass of the rider. There are bulls more famous than riders. The rides score is half the riders performance and half the bulls. The riders want a bull that is crazy/athletic so it earns more points. Also those guys running around are known as bullfighters (rodeo clowns of yore). It's their sole job to protect the rider. They literally put their bodies between them and the bull (Frank Newsom & Cody Webster videos give you a look at their insane job).
I grew up around Dallas and went to the Mesquite Championship Rodeo and my favorite Bullfighter was a Barrleman named "Daddy" Frank McElvain, Sr. THis guy, i think in my opinion, just pissed off a wholoe bunch of bullriders and rodeo fans and they are two kinds of people you don't want to piss off!
i live next door to a bull ranch. most are famous and massive.
4:00 That’s Bodacious, the rankest bull ever to grace the PBR
That bull fd some people up in his day
I wondered if anyone caught that was Bodacious or even know the backstory of this ride shown.
BTW, he’s the blonde bull that doesn’t do typical arch back bucks but more rear up bucks that pummeled his head and neck in face forwards collision with the riders.
It’s in the middle of this clip you see a guy wearing face gear and suddenly the bull rears and he’s instantly off lying on the ground.
I believe that’s Scott Breding. Or
Tuff" Hedeman. But this rider is doing the second ever ride on Bodacious, which the previous bout ended viscously with severe facial and head injuries almost killing him.
In this clip he’s now wearing face protection and wants to face this beast once and for all. Bodacious cannot be overcome and once again knocks the rider out with a rear up buck.
The owners of Bodacious came out later in the competition to announce his immediate retirement. They wanted him to retire on a “high note “ but later disclosed they didn’t want a death of a rider by him.
@@chessman1958 it was Hedeman
Had to retire him before he killed someone because he was learning.....
My grandma new ty Murray before he ever got famous. Funny enough he dated my aunt Jody for about 3 weeks when they were both around the age of 16. Didn't last long but it's a fun story
I was a RCA card holder for 4 years. Turquoise, Southern, and Great Lakes circuits. Broke bones, pulled more muscles and beat up beyond belief. Qualified the first go-around, broke my foot and rode the next with a cast on my right foot. I didn't cover. Now I'm 67 and I feel it. Great times and good friends.
The athletes are really the bulls.
The bull rider is a recipient of the bulls anger, and the riders ability to withstand the violence of the ride.
It takes a real tough man to play this sport, this is where they separate the men from the wannabe men.
There is more to being a man than just being tough but you probably already know that.

The riders hanging off the side of the bull have their gloves caught in the rigging.
The riders being drug underneath got a boot caught in the rigging.
The job of the guys on the ground is to distract the bull after the rider comes off so the rider can get to safety
Exactly the 3 things I was going to comment! Well said; short, sweet, and correct! 👍🏻
Rodeo clowns are a bull riders best friends
If you think the bull riders have balls and are nuts you don’t know rodeo. The truly balls of steel and legit nuts are the clowns.. Those guys are out there bull after bull doing EVERYTHING they can to protect the bull rider. To me rodeo clowns are some of the bravest people on the planet and certified insane. God bless the rodeo clowns!!!
The first "Superstar" bull I remember was named Joe Cool back in the early 80s. The monstrous beige Brahma was never gave up a full ride in competition but was far from bloodthirsty with the family that owned it treating it more like a pet and even letting their toddler ride around on it.
In the arena he was more than just impossible to ride. After putting his rider on the arena floor he would put on the most amazing show. The bull would slow and allow the wranglers to remove the bucking strap and then proceed to the fencing by the spectators. There he would use his head scoop dirt up unto the fencing and then fling the dirt on the crowd, to the delight of everyone.
This bull was the first time I ever recall one being singled out in the TV guide for an event. He was the subject of specials and got media attention from around the world. Pretty impressive for a niche sport in the pre information age. I've tried to find video of him on You Tube to no success. If anyone has a link to a good video please post it.
I saw Joe Cool a few times at the Mesquite (TX) Championship Roideo and he was owned by Neal Gay and his family. And yes that was his real last name. One of HIs sons Don, or Donnie was a 7 or 8 time PRCA National Bull Riding Champion. He and Bodacious were otwo of the rankest bulls I ever saw in person.
@@tony_m_km6mzp I did no know that. I remember the owner as a younger man no more than 35 in the feature I first watched on the bull during its glory days (A long time ago).
Pretty sure that wasn't Donny Gay as the man was carrying a few extra pounds, looked more like a steer wrestler, and they surely would have made a bigger deal out of the fact the owner was a bull riding champ. So I am guessing he was part of the Gay family, a brother of Donny perhaps?
I wish more video had survived of this bull.
Here in Calgary Canada, there is a bronze statue of one of the most famous bulls from the Calgary Stampede in the downtown area. I am probably one of the few people who walks by it and actually reads the plague by it.
They even have a version of bull riding for young kids, but instead of riding bulls they ride sheep.

There is mini bull riding too
The object is to stay on for 8 seconds the free arm cannot touch the bull or you are disqualified
😆 Oh it IS crazy, that's why we love it! Aim is to stay on for 8 seconds, which is harder than it sounds, as you can see. If you can you get scored based on a few factors but mostly on making it look easy. While official records date it back to Old Mexico a similar event known as bull leaping started in Minos, home of the pre-Greek civilization of the Minoans and is believed to have been the inspiration for the legend of the Minotaur. As dangerous as it looks there have been very few deaths and they're usually not in the professional circuit usually the lower ones where precautions are lacking, but a lot of broken bones. The guys on the ground are called Bullfighters today but used to be called Rodeo Clowns. Their job is the most important and respected one and that's to keep the bull away from a rider when he dismounts or gets bucked off because that's like trying to dismount a Merry go Round that's out of control, never going to be a graceful landing. Frank Newsom is one of them and he's insane, I think he likes getting trampled because I've watched him be tossed a few meters in the air and come back for more. And his hat, gotta get the hat.
You ask why is this a sport and I only have one thing to say to you. MERICA
Yes, but it takes balls to do it. Same with bullfighting. These sports came from Spain and Mexico.
@Grihm Fayte Meaning you wouldn't do it yourself because you would be afraid of getting hurt. Again, it takes bravery and balls to do it.
@Grihm Fayte I mean just because you think it's stupid doesn't mean it doesn't take balls, dude. Sorry, but this sport is a dangerous one whether you like it or not.
@Grihm Fayte Also why would it be stupid to ride them? You could get seriously hurt. That's my point. You can have balls and be stupid at the same time.
@Grihm Fayte Go to Spain and protest bullfighting which is worse. Anyways American bull riding itself isn't barbaric. I agree they don't treat the bulls right. 12,000 years? This sport is like 100s of years old from Mexico. People like sports like this no matter how "evolved" we get. Humans are still humans.
“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.” E. Hemingway

But, to watch u and your response to the sport made me laugh so hard I spit my coffee across the room...lmao...I guess u think Americans, or at least our Cowboys and Bull riders have lost their minds?... the goal in bull riding is to stay on the bull for 8 seconds..... and not die. I've neveer done it, but I am friends with a man from Texas, who did it pro, even did it in college. He took a horn through his throat (all the way) and then continued to ride after he recovered.
INSANE people.
My Dad used to be a bull rider. My grandma made him quit when a bull knocked him unconscious for 12 hours and broke his legs.
I've ridden professionally for a number of years and it is wild, a ton of fun thought. Broke my back last year but you just heal up and get back to it.
They make great money now. I rode late 80s early 90s, most the time we rode just for our next entry fee.
Entry fee back then was like $60.00 but you are correct. Pays much better now.
Rodney, did you ride bulls regional or were you going nationwide? And , Did you ever meet Tuff Hedeman Don Gay and the other riders that were big back then?
I wouldn't call it great money for what they have to go through. You have football players, baseball players, basketball players, and soccer players all making way more than they do. But yeah, compared to riders back in the day, they are making a killing if they are riding at an elite level and riding in the PBR. If you aren't in the PBR, you aren't making nearly enough to make a good living. At least that's what I've heard.
I’ve done about every adrenaline rush sport I can in my life and riding bulls takes the cake for me hands down.

One of the more well known deaths was that of the late great Lane Frost. They made a movie about it, aint bad. 8 seconds is the target time to stay on the bull. And of course they were bored think of what they had to do back in the idk, lets say as early as the 1700s. Though Deer Tail, Colorado has record of one of the first Rodeos in 1869.

"Why is this a Sport", "why is this allowed". I think it has something to do with the American concept of Freedom, which Brits and far too many other Europeans, just don't quite fully understand. Freedom is the ability to do stupid and yes dangerous things (as long as it doesn't take away from other people's freedoms) without the government telling you otherwise.
Exactly
We used to have freedom in this beautiful country now we are communist country where we the people don't have a voice 😖😭
Mexico started bull riding and Italy or Spain started bull running I think
Exactly, like gay marriage or taking a knee during the national anthem before a sports event.
That's obviously very biased lol. Or rather it's like there never was a need for Cowboys in Europe and our more strict animal health/protection rights would prolly have some issues with it. Even though I once saw a rodeo in my country just that every animal was taught to go wild at command. Idk what strange information you have but America actually doesn't really have more freedoms than Europeans. That's straight up Propaganda which I actually wonder that so many Americans still believe in. Especially since the concept of freedom differs pretty strongly actually between for example a French, a German, a Brit or a Pole.

The bull has a rope tied tightly around there hips, this makes them want to kick to get it off. Also, they choose particularly aggressive bulls for better sport
Pretty confident in saying that rope around the "waist" is somehow tied to the bull's balls
@@babafatz6267 nope it isn't.
@@babafatz6267 That’s a Long time myth. They tie the flank strap around the low torso to encourage the bull to buck more and higher. The buck makes up half the score they get. The higher the buck the more points the rider gets.
It's actually true. It's a common thing for rodeos to tie the testicles. Especially when it's a small town rodeo that doesn't get checked out by authorities. Some organizers have also been caught sticking bulls with tasers as they come out of the chute.
Um no. The flank rope comes off rather easily and is not tied to the testicles.

Bullriding is a sport for the crazy brave who have been either born into bull riding, or, have decided to go into bull riding starting in elementary school with calf riding, by high school they are riding the "big boys." The average bucking rodeo bull weighs in at 1,500 pounds to 1800 pounds of muscle, attitude, and speed. The goal is to stay seated on the bull for the full ride... 8 seconds.
Believe it or not, when the bull owners bring the trailer to the barns to load up the bulls, the bulls run to get into the trailers. The bulls actually enjoy going to the rodeos. A young rodeo bull, with DNA-verified parentage, can be worth as much as $100,000. If the bull has superstar bloodlines, the bull can be worth as much as $250,000. A proven bucking bull can be worth as much as $500,000.
The majority of Professional Bull Riding salaries currently range between $26,500 (25th percentile) to $42,500 (75th percentile) with top earners (90th percentile) making $62,000 annually across the United States. Championship bull riders can earn as much as $92,500 with sponsors in one year.
Bull riders who are injured early in the year are typically awarded only $16,000 for that year. Any time a bull rider climbs onto a bull, the rider has a 60% chance of breaking a bone, having a skull fracture, torn ligaments, and tendons. The typical bull rider sustains no less than two to three serious orthopedic injuries and at least two to four crush injuries in the course of each competition year.
When the riders get their rigging hand stuck in the rigging belt, the rodeo safety crew is there to help free the rider from the angry, 1500 pounds to 1800 pounds of muscle, attitude, and speed bulls. What makes the bulls buck and angry is the bucking strap around the flanks of the bull, pulled tight to stimulate the bull to buck. Once the bucking strap is off, the bull stops bucking and calms down.
Imagine having a belt drawn very tight, in a figure 8 pattern, between your butt cheeks, your crotch, and your hips. What would you do to get that very tightly drawn belt off your hips, butt cheeks, and crotch? I'd do some kicking and jumping around too.
The music you are hearing in this video is called Bluegrass. Perfected and still played in the Blueridge Mountains across the farm belt, and into the western mountains of the United States. This music was brought over from Irish, Welsh, and Scottish settlers to the "New World" during the mass immigration from Europe in the later 1800s and early 1900s, and even earlier from 1640 to 1774 by Irish, Welsh, and Scottish indentured servants to the British Crown to pay for tax debts and leans against family properties in Ireland, Wales, and Scottland. As with my father's and mother's families, many Irish, Welsh, and Scottish indentured servants rebelled against their British masters, burned down their British master's businesses, and joined the Colonial Militia from 1775 to 1777. Bluegrass has been handed down from generation to generation since before the birth of the United State as a nation. Each generation puts their own personalization to the same basic musical styles of long ago in the "Old Country" homelands of Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.

I like how he didn’t notice the cowboy that roped the guys leg to get him out of there at 7:25

I wouldn’t bet any money on those guys missing! I’m amazed every time I watch team roping. They’re insanely precise.
I saw that and watched it 3 times trying to figure out if that was intentional or not.
@@amywaldron4703 It wouldn't be smart to rope a guy's leg while his hand is also caught in the rope, given the likelihood that the bull will continue to spin while it's bucking. That's another big reason why I'm pretty sure that he wasn't going for the leg.
"I would like to climb on that and see how long it takes for him to whip me off."

The rules for bull riding is the cowboy gets on to the bull and when he's ready he nods his head and that's when the clock starts, the cowboy has to keep his free hand in the air the whole time and never touch the bull with it, he has to stay on for 8 seconds at which time the horn will blow and he can get off however he can. The ride is judged by giving up to 50 points for the bull by how hard he bucks and 50 points for the rider for how easy he makes it look. If he falls off away from his hand that he's holding on to the bull with he will probably get hung up, that's when those other guys on their feet are for the bullfighter his job is to get the cowboy 's hand free if he's hung up and to distract the bull from getting the cowboy.
