    I am just down the road from this place and often bike ride through Utica in the summer. I’m torn between skepticism and belief when it comes to the paranormal but Southern Indiana has a unique energy and feel that I haven’t experienced anywhere else in the country. The stretch from Charlestown going further down 62 to Madison and Vevay is a drive I like to make during summer nights because of how eerie and alone it feels to me. I’ll pull off in spots and listen to the river. Even in solitude it feels like I’m surrounded sometimes. Sounds weird I know, but it’s undeniable. The past is still alive in some of these places.

      Just down from the Mistletoe Falls ruins, is a creek where people say scattered skeletons and armor was found, either late 1700’s or early 1800’s. Aptly named “Battle Creek” on the map.
      Another weird place is River Road, going west from Mauckport to New Amsterdam. It goes through a place called “Spook Hollow”, that has quite the reputation, post some infamous murders by river pirates. All I know is there’s a long stretch of road, with no houses, no people, completely secluded, that feels especially odd at night.
      Several viewers believe they’ve seen Bigfoot, on the road from Vevay to Aurora, and on the backroads north of Madison. Whether it’s just a story, legit, or someone likes to wear a gorilla suit to get the mail, is anyone’s guess.

      @@AdventureswithRoger I’m definitely going to check out Spook Hollow! Thanks for that info. I’m looking to do some hikes soon around Bloomington and further west down the river going towards Evansville. The few knowledgable
      folks that I’ve talked to about southern Indiana history seem to have all mentioned a pattern of witchcraft or zealotry throughout the area in the past. It’s like these were the out-lands at some point in the past.

      Many cult / witchcraft stories about Bloomington and Brown County. Always carry and never let strangers walk behind you. My cousins actually ran across a weird cult near Brown County, complete with hoods. Car got stuck in the woods, as they tried to get away. These hooded people actually helped them get unstuck, true story.
      There’s some good hiking in Perry County, in what some consider an Indian holy place. German Ridge, Rich Cave Hollow, Lake Tipsaw. And Bigfoot stories. 😂 One of my friends practically got in a fight with crazy land owners, at Rich Cave Hollow, despite it not even being their land, just near theirs. “We don’t like strangers.”
      By all means walk around New Harmony. All flat but a definite vibe.
      Nearby Twin Swamps is one of my favorite places: looks like the Everglades back there. And just south is the dam and locks, modern restrooms, but rarely any people. Outstanding view of the Ohio leaving Indiana.

      @@AdventureswithRoger Great info and thanks for sharing! I carry out of habit just incase I come across a bear or a boar in the area, but I couldn’t imagine having to fight off a cult in the woods 😂 I have unfortunately and unknowingly trespassed on federal training grounds and was met shortly after by a group of humvees. I was kindly escorted from the property👋.
      New Harmony is definitely high on the list. A friend of mine from Evansville shared some stories about that place. Your video on it piqued my interest even more. Anything involving occultism usually catches my attention. I saw some things down in Louisiana that made me question my own sanity. It’s an interesting topic for sure.

    Another entertaining and fun Indiana video. As fellow Hoosiers, we eagerly anticipate your next adventure. We love Indiana! To borrow the old Indiana Beach jingle says “There’s than corn in Indiana” lol.
    We are always hoping to see you explore the pot holes in Attica, Indiana. It is a hidden jewel with lots of history attached to it, including outlaws and the rich and famous. There was a hotel called Mudlavia, with mudbaths that people from all over came to bathe in. There is some of the most beautiful nature made potholes that are big enough to swim in. There are three different paths that lead to the same beautiful little waterfall, where people swim and swing out on ropes. It is an awesome place and we think you’d love it. We hope to see you do a video there some day.

    I grew up about a quarter of a mile from this place. I used to play n the woods around there. My father and grandfather helped in building the bible study room at the top of the hill. After it burned, around the 80's the area across from it was a popular hangout spot for teens and the quarry above it was also a popular swimming hole for locals and their friends, aptly nicknamed the blue lagoon. It was never called Witches Castle until a young girl was taken there and was tortured. With the ruins of the home covered with greenery and overgrowth, it does provoke stories and rumors to no end. But in fact, the area was never inhabited by witches or used for rituals . The locals will always know it as Mistle Toe Falls.

    • @AdventureswithRoger
      @AdventureswithRoger  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      For a long time, people asked when I was going to cover the topic, as I’ve covered about everything else along Indiana’s section of the Ohio River. I’m not a paranormal investigator, by any stretch of the imagination, and didn’t want to go to a spooky place in the woods! Not my interest.
      But a friend of mine, who’s an empath, had been, and said there were no creepy vibes. If anyone should get them, it would be her. And from her research, almost everything about the place was complete folklore. After doing my own research, I found a story that needed to be clarified. No dark myths could be verified by anyone. It was actually a story about a man that was trying to win back his wife, by making a beautiful home. It’s a shame that most of the beautiful, thoughtful features he assembled, are no longer visible.

So hearing the stories of ghosts and spooks and people so excited to visit to bear witness to these so called entities is kind of sad and amusing at the same time. Blessed Be

Loved the little river town of Alton ( so peaceful and reminded me a lot of old Leavenworth) and was absolutely amazed at the unbelievable views of the mighty Ohio from so high up along that road to Magnet. Ashley, did you / they watch the entire video? The video starts off by exploring the myths about the place, and ends up telling that there’s no proof that any of it happened. In fact, while people believe Shanda Sharer was tortured and murdered there, she wasn’t, and that’s the conclusion of the police report and those involved. She was only taken there for intimidation, and that’s clearly stated in the video.
      The video also describes that it was not a witch’s castle at all, but one man’s attempt to win his wife back, with a beautiful home. All of these things are factually covered.
      The intent of this film was to explore the mythology and follow it with facts: it’s an interesting, historical ruin, that people have given untrue folklore. I stand behind this production and it’s factual content.

      Thanks, Gina! I didn’t get any weird vibes about Mistletoe Falls / The Witches Castle. Just felt like an abandoned place, a story about a man that really loved his wife, and would do anything to get her back. While she couldn’t love the house, they did get back together, so it wasn’t totally sad! 🙂
      A friend of mine, who’s an empath, has went twice: also felt nothing about the house and chapel. People tell me that weird isn’t consistent, and while some people are like lightning rods, others are immune to picking anything up. My empath friend did say that ABOVE the house and chapel, is a totally different story. They sensed many spirits up there, possibly Native American. From my travels doing the mounds video, I wouldn’t be surprised if this high point, above the Ohio River, was once a mound or some kind of fortification. Charlestown is one of those places along the river, and was documented in the 1800’s, by Edward Travers Cox and William Borden. If they ever sell and develop the hilltop, they might find a truckload of artifacts!

I am 63 years old and never in my lifetime. Was that a scary place but yet a beautiful, beautiful place. The first time I ever heard of that name, witch’s castle was in the time where a crime was committed with Shanda Sharer. If my memory serves me correctly, that was not until the 90s that that happened and I had nothing to do with any witches, although I love following your stories, I would find it very beneficial for you to speak to people who grew up in that town before making the comments of the past of that property if needed I can find painted pictures of the beautiful home that used to be there if you would like to see them.

    • @AdventureswithRoger
      @AdventureswithRoger  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Virginia, did you watch the entire video? The point of the film, was to show that there’s no solid basis for the scary tales. The stories are folklore. The end of the film shows a simple limestone house, built by a man that was trying to impress his wife. No one was ever tortured or murdered there, no witches were burned out of a house, despite the many myths associated with the place.
      I end the video offering that the property is for sale, planting a seed for someone that might want to buy and fix the place. And, that while we all love a good tale around the campfire, reality doesn’t always match: it just makes life more interesting.

      Intrigued me for years, ever since I visited Marengo Cave and passed the cool, roadside entrances. In hopes of doing a segment, I researched the legend, spoke to long-time Milltown residents, took video of the outside.
      Locals say the legend is all made-up and never happened. Several said they used to play inside and never once sensed anything unusual.
      There’s only one online article, describing “the horrors”, and it reads like a made-up creepy pasta story. You’d think that there would be many, if it were true.
      There’s one old TH-cam video of a guy trespassing a distance inside. You see a pentagram spray-painted by someone, but I’ve seen that lots of places, it doesn’t mean anything bad happened there.
      One guy claimed his relative was the sheriff, and he had proof, but that proof was never produced. There would be a police report if a death occurred.
      One of the owners said the legend was made-up . He also said that the quarry mine is still commercially used, from time to time, and there’s a risk of large, loose stones falling on you, after a long time of stability. I was also warned I’d be prosecuted if found trespassing on the private property.
      I left it there, but it’s still a cool legend, that brings-up questions of cover-ups and things swept under the table. I just know I couldn’t find any proof.

      For some people, the truth is too uncomfortable, so much so that they’ll call you a complete liar, despite evidence to the contrary. They can’t accept a change to what they’ve always accepted as reality.
      A good example is when I visited the Tunnelton Tunnel, and recorded the infamous phantom lantern. There is no denying that a light is hovering in the tunnel, and no one is holding it, from 9 feet off the ground. I had tons of people tell me I was wrong, that there is no such thing as spirits, but could not offer a plausible explanation.
