      Hey Scotty did I make a good buy? I just purchased a 1990 F150 XLT lariat for $1500 and only has 86,000 original miles on it. It steers great, oil is good, transmission fluid was just changed, and fires right up like a charm. I did have to replace the battery and the battery cable clamps due to corrosion but other than that no leaks or nothing!

    I had a 2005 chrysler Town and Country. I bought it from my job for $300 dollars. It had 289,000 miles on ti and was not well taken care of. I lasted 2 1/2 years before I had to get rid of it. I only put a water pump on it and had the original spark plugs changed. It did use oil about a quart every 3 fillups.. When I got rid of it it had almost 400,000 miles. That is when the transmission finally was going out.
    My wife had one with 200,000 when she bought it. The transmission went out at around 260,000 miles and after replacement it made it to around 300,000.

      He has an East Coast mentality in foreign cars are better, truth is they are not. I have a Dodge right now with over 400k on the clock, most of my Jeeps had over 200K before I was thinking about selling them. Chrysler made good products or else the Minivans would have died out decades ago. Hmmm makes you wonder if they are so crappy why people still buy them, the fact is they are good for the price and the quality is good. The issue with the transmission was the solenoid pack that had to be replaced and afterwards it would solve the hard shifts, so again somebody who gave a biased opinion with no true information.

    • @AndrewFaust-x1e
      @AndrewFaust-x1e 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@markhampton6178 It's not just Scotty saying these things, there are thousands and possibly millions of people all across America who have bought and owned Dodge and Chrysler vans and have been absolutely horrendous. Those solenoid packs are garbage. They are rated at the bottom of every list for the worst reliability, people who bought them have had numerous complaints about the build quality including engines blowing up, transmissions going out and excessive oil consumption. Meanwhile Toyota Sienna's and Honda Odyssey's are running around with 200,000-250,000 miles AND UP and they still run fine with LITTLE to NO issues! Japanese cars are outpacing domestic cars by a huge margin. There's a reason for that. The simple truth is that foreign cars especially Japanese brands, ARE in fact BETTER. The quality in those Chrysler's is absolute trash. They are not good quality cars at all. And people who keep buying them are fools.

    Most economical car I ever bought was a 2000 Short box Caravan 3.0 litre engine in 2007. Bought it used for $5300 with 80,000 KM and lasted till 250,000 KM 8 yrs later. It was still running but gave it to my daughter who traded it in for a $30,000 new Jeep Compass. The most significant repair I had to make was replace the rad cooling fan which I got at the wreckers for $50.......replaced tires, oil changes, transmission fluid and brakes.....When I got rid of it, was still blowing cold air.....3 speed fan was now a 2 speed fan......after 15 yrs old the rust was minimal around the body side moldings........for this who remember the 3.0L Mitsubishi engine made a valve clicking noise.....who cares......it still ran fantastic.....to think a used 4 yr old vehicle costs $30,000 plus today is utterly insane.

    That's one (2002-2007 Caravan) most reliable trusty dependable minivans ever built with 3.3 or 3.8 v6. Simple maintenance will make her run over 500K. Most likely transmission fails because people never change fluid and drive like maniacs. Check wiring to transmission before blaming AT.

The interior is still like new, but the body is rusting because they put salt on the roads here in Canada in the winter. Seriously, I kept up with the maintenance and it never left me stranded on the side of the road. My mechanic said he has never seen a high mileage vehicle that ran and drove like new with that many kilometres. Mind you I did not drive the piss out of it. I babied it.

    Hey Scotty, funny fact about those mini vans are that they were taxi rides for a company I worked for, and those machine ran miles and miles up to 800,000 miles with the same motor and transmission, and that's when T.A. (Taxi Authorities) retired them. You all know how taxi drivers wrecked down any cars so they were pretty well built, the only flaws about them was the cheap gas used by the company. The company bought cheap gas and here in Las Vegas, plus heat, not a good mixer, I saw through a tiny camera those gas tank overheating, making the gas to boiled.

    LOVE our 2001 Grand Caravan 3.3L. It’s so fast it screams on the interstate. Good pickup too. It has 270,000 miles on it. We’ve drove 65,000 of those. We paid only $68 and we’ve put our own parts on it as things fail. We bought a parts car from the Post Office. Plastic radiator, fan blower, wiper squirter, keyed ignition, blend door actuator, etc. The #1 spark plug breaks every time we change them. Finally, it 20 years old so we no longer have to emission test it in NC. I’d buy these vans every time I found them, all day long. I’m obsessed

    I've got a 2006 with the 2.4L. Got it a 6 years ago with 100K for $2400. Still runs great and has no rust. Pulled the trans pan--almost no sludge. Easy to maintain for a DIY-er. Average 21mpg. If you keep the throttle body clean and use high quality plugs, it has good throttle response.
    Caravans have a problem with corrosion on the IPM contacts (fuse box connectors), so it's necessary to spray them out with electronics cleaner every few years to prevent stuff like "wipers came on with headlights." I recommend to clean up the engine bay ground wires periodically as well. 2.4 Caravans will run for a long time with simple care.

    Scotty, as you probably know here in Houston mini van taxis are usually Caravans or Sienas. I used a lot of these minivans to take my mother to doctor appointments. My mother is wheelchair bound and I asked Yellow Cab for one of their "handicap vans". While riding in these cabs I would question the driver/owner about their experience with the van, how many miles they had accumulated, what repairs or overhauls they did blah blah. Every single one of the drivers told me that the Caravans would breakdown more often than the Toyota but they were cheaper to fix. Some of these taxi drivers owned a few mini vans from both manufacturers so they were a good source of information because they were doing their own comparisons. Funny thing, not one Honda.
