Hey great wheel,i made mine using parts from 3 old controllers and a driving force gt wheel, but after seeing this ill be starting my second wheel asap, please can you tell me the brand and type of clay u used and most importantly where u got the buttons/switches from many thanks
I made it from the plastic from a box of chocolates (Ferrero Rocher) and used masking tape to cover the areas I wanted the lights to get through. Then I spray painted the whole thing black, removed the masking tape and that's the cover. To get round bits of masking tape for the lights I used a hole punch!
Really inspiring!! I think I will try to make my own wheel dring the winter. Thanks for your video, I will make sure to use your techniques in my own build!
I used DAS modelling clay but anything will do. Different types have different finishes but if you skin it with carbon fiber then it does not matter. I look forward to seeing your wheel!
You need some sort of circuit board to connect the switches to. In my first version I just used a cheap game pad and wired the existing buttons to the ones I had put in my wheel. The SLI pro was an upgrade although I think there are better and cheaper units around that do the same thing now. Get in touch if you need more help.
Very Well done MrFurries! I have watched the whole movie four times now, and really like the Way you edited the video, and the great amount of details you show us. The plate with the handles, onto that you attach a thin plate of something, is that aluminium, and is it hard enough
u are a god, man , that was awesome. btw me and my friend are considering to build one too!! one big problem is how we get the Computer to read our steering input? how u get the Game to read the reading of ur steering ?? it would be great if you can teach me how to get it done, million thanks !! ( we are desperately to make one )
There are a few ways you can do this, you can just pull apart an old/cheap gamepad and wire the buttons from that into the buttons on your wheel. Then games just detect it as a normal gamepad. Another way is to use a controller for the board, just google sim display and you'll find some. There are others available too.
Good idea buying the wheel from a scrap yard! Im going to be sorting my next one out soon - using the new device from www.ultimategametech.com to control my buttons and switches ;)
When I started watching this I was like HA this is going to be a shitty thing.. then.. just WOAH. Seriously you are one amazing creative person :D I withdraw my previous thought for sure :O
+umpagamer03 Sure I'll see if I can find it. All I did was search for F1 wheels in google image search, found one I liked and then used MS Paint to make it black and white. If I can find the one I used I'll mail it over to you though no problem. Oh I also set the width to be 29cm as that was about the width of F1 wheels from the info I found.
Just another quick question can you do tutorial on how to connect sli pro to all switches and the what did you put on the switches the brown bit at about 14 mins in the video
I let it air overnight and then baked it on "slow cook" for an hour or so. It is a reinforced modeling clay so there is very little shrinkage and no cracking. I did try some other clay but it was much lower grade and wasn't really up to the task!
I'm about to finish my wheel annd I just wanted some advice on wiring the buttons since I dont have SLI Pro how do I get the wired wired to a usb cable or something please??
I'm not sure exactly what they are called but I think they are torsion springs - I got mine from clothes pegs. My new wheel uses the lcd from ultimate game tech which is a great upgrade from the led display here. I really need to put a video of that up.
@@MrFurries and I have different idea also you can also use the auto start switch from two wheelers because the switch has easy mounting method for fitting and after fitting you can use any shifter pedals (which are little light) and stick it on the switch with double sided tape
Buongiorno, io sono molto interessato a creare questo volante. Gentilmente mi può mandare tutto il materiale informativo? La ringrazio anticipatamente, attendo risposta.
The switches were for mounting on electrical strip board which is what those bits are. I didn't get the layout right so rather than using a single bit that they all connect to I had to do them separately. I'll show it in more detail on my next vid as Ive nearly finished my next wheel.
I think I used something like the metal fron the side of an old computer case. I think its 1mm steel from memory although you could use anything thats strong enough - Im pretty sure bnq (www.diy.com) sell very similar stuff.
The cover is a bit of plastic from the bottom of a box of chocolates. I used a hole punch to give me little circles of paper which I then glued onto the plastic in the correct positions for each LED. I also masked off the main part of the display with tape. I then sprayed the bit of plastic with black paint. Once dry I peeled off the tape and circles of paper and it was done. I turned it over so the painted side of the plastic was facing the display.
Do you have a link to the colored switches? I have trouble finding ones like. All i find are some heavy duty ones that are pretty expensive for what tehy are doing
I think I used these - there are plenty of others available on this site which are not too expensive. They are a bit annoying to mount as they don't screw into the wheel but sit behind it but they are cheap. I think next time I'm going to use more expensive ones but when you want lots of buttons the price quickly goes up as you know! Check these though www.rapidonline.com/tactile-switches
I just use them to place the ground wires for the switches, needle nose pliers would work better but my pliers are a bit clumsy so I used scissors to hold the wires in place.
Hi, not sure which spring you mean, for the gear shifters I used a clothes peg spring like these ones upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/20/Clothespin-2459e.jpg
Hey man I have these LED's from a PS2 F1 wheel that I'm gonna be using with my G27, I ripped out the motherbard and all the useless stuff, have the LED's and the wheel but I have no fucking idea how to make them work because they've been connected to the motherboard. Does anybody know how to make it work? The wheel was a JOYTECH Williams F1.
i am thoroughly impressed. the work, the quality, the detail, the buttons and switches and the display, damn. that is absolutely sick
Thanks! Its 275mm wide, 165mm high. I tried a few different sizes out before using this - I think it is about what suits you - this felt comfy to me.

Version 3? Come on man... to that for us hahaha great job
Cheers for the very good and quick feedback
Ok, thanks. I have made one wheel but after seeing this video I want to make another as it's given me a few ideas :) thanks

To transfer the forces from the G25 base to the plate with handles, without bending or feeling wobly? Great work!

Its not too heavy, It weighs less than a Roso F1 wheel which is probably one of the best replica gaming wheels out there.

how much would you sell a wheel for? they look very good
Amazing!!! I want to do my own, so can you say where you have your switches from?
its very good!!!...but a little music wouldnt hurt
You'll make a lot of money if you build and sell! Btw it was a nice tutorial amd a great wheel!
Very cool mate, nice work.

Rocking bro,i made simulator at my home but I bought steering wheel from scrap yard, definetly I will build a wheel like this one
Good idea buying the wheel from a scrap yard! Im going to be sorting my next one out soon - using the new device from www.ultimategametech.com to control my buttons and switches ;)
Nice job!!. Which is the exact size of the wheel, diameter and height

When I first started it I was thinking the same :D

Just another quick question can you do tutorial on how to connect sli pro to all switches and the what did you put on the switches the brown bit at about 14 mins in the video

GOOD, VERY GOOD! Congratulations
You can write a detailed list of what and how much of the rest?

Hi Your wheel was so impressed!
how did you cut the plywood? by saw?

I loved it great to wheel you did, congratulations

Amigo, essa massa cinza é interessante, como é o nome dela?
Hello, nice work u did there! May i ask if u used any epoxy resin on wood and on clay also? And how long did u left it to cure? Cheers!
Só faltou mostrar o volante em funcionamento. Funcionou???
i recommend that the shifters were 2 like in a real F1 with the clutch :P

wouldnt the clay crack? like, doesnt clay crack when it dries? how was this prevented? and how did you dry it, just over time?
hey such a cool video well done!
Dude truly amazing,
Hello very good video I'm interested in making a flyer eats yours.
You could pass me more information I'm not clear how you operate the cams

Wow that is an really Professional build!Youre a Little Genius right? ;-P
How Long lasts the black colour on the loam?

I'm about to finish my wheel annd I just wanted some advice on wiring the buttons since I dont have SLI Pro how do I get the wired wired to a usb cable or something please??
Love the Idea and steering wheel too I am going to make it but someone can help me tell the exact name of that spring thing used in gear shifters
I'm not sure exactly what they are called but I think they are torsion springs - I got mine from clothes pegs. My new wheel uses the lcd from ultimate game tech which is a great upgrade from the led display here. I really need to put a video of that up.
@@MrFurries MrFurries okk that's why the spring is easy to press
@@MrFurries and I have different idea also you can also use the auto start switch from two wheelers because the switch has easy mounting method for fitting and after fitting you can use any shifter pedals (which are little light) and stick it on the switch with double sided tape
Speedy hands!!
Hello .. from your video did a wheel formula similar to yours, what do you think.
Hi, great wheel, just wondering where you got the cover for the sli-pro , or did you make it?
Impressive
you the man
Can you share the overall dimensions of the rim itself? Thanks!
Quick question how did you dry the clay
Yes, its just a slightly different shape with the rev lights in a different place.
Where did you buy your electronics
How did you do it with the buttons, how did u make them work in game?
You can send me a link yo download the wheel photo please
@MrFurries, where did you get the stickers with the numbers from 1 to 12 and all the colored ones?
Thanks

Sorry for nagging but were can I get the shape from
Buongiorno, io sono molto interessato a creare questo volante.
Gentilmente mi può mandare tutto il materiale informativo?
La ringrazio anticipatamente, attendo risposta.
@Snkeeyz1 Thanks! I've updated the video details with a list of what materials I used.
How much does it cost from 0?
on how many degrees did you cook the clay if you cooked it?

What Screws are using 4-5-6?
Where did you get those springs for the paddle shifters?
Roscoe P I just used the springs you find if you take apart a peg for hanging clothes on the line!
Amazing!
You should make one too! I'm sure it improved my lap times!
You're the quickest!
Where can I get the metal you bend round the edge? Thanks
I think I used something like the metal fron the side of an old computer case. I think its 1mm steel from memory although you could use anything thats strong enough - Im pretty sure bnq (www.diy.com) sell very similar stuff.
Hi, where did you get the cover slip for the sli-pro??
Also, what did you do to prevent the clay from cracking??
The cover is a bit of plastic from the bottom of a box of chocolates. I used a hole punch to give me little circles of paper which I then glued onto the plastic in the correct positions for each LED. I also masked off the main part of the display with tape. I then sprayed the bit of plastic with black paint. Once dry I peeled off the tape and circles of paper and it was done. How weight of this wheel?
Is it works in logitech driving force gt?

17:14 minutes, which is what you do with scissors? (PLEASE ANSWER)
I just use them to place the ground wires for the switches, needle nose pliers would work better but my pliers are a bit clumsy so I used scissors to hold the wires in place.
Tenks! :)
which material do you use at 4:15 minutes?
which spring did you use in the clamp..?
Hi, not sure which spring you mean, for the gear shifters I used a clothes peg spring like these ones upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/20/Clothespin-2459e.jpg
I mean the spring you put in the bolt for the flaps...
what type of clay did you use? any specific brand? thanks man!
It was just normal modeling clay, I think it was made by DAZ but anything should work!
alright, thanks appreciate your resonse. I'll start my DIY wheel soon. Cheers man.
I would have done red bull but it is still mad

Where did you get the wheel stencil from?
