The story of the Edmund Fitzgerald continues to fascinate me. As a former Merchant Marine, I have great respect for the industry and the sacrifices made over the centuries to keep America moving. In my annual tribute to the Fitz, I sat down with Captain Darrell Walton, whose uncle Ralph Walton went down with the great ship. Listen in for some new perspective on what might have happened. One of the sadest things about this story is that Captain McSorley was retiring after this trip. His wife was in a nursing home and he told her he was coming home and would never leave her again. Would you want to be the person that had to tell her that Ernest wasn't coming home? Sad.

I first got a chance to listen to the words of the song in 1980. It still gives me a chill, and my life has never been on or around the water.

The hatch covers being the official cause is rubbish. And in a break up you don’t always get separation, look at the Bradley. But it was too fast. She absolutely hit bottom. Fitzgerald was sinking from about 3:30pm that day. She caught those big waves and just didn’t recover and the screw drove her into the bottom. Great interview.

Another great History Mystery Man video. As an ex cop, II tend to gravitate towards things like unsolved murders and the like...I have a book out on the Kennedy assassination. But something about the Fitz has really captured my attention. Your videos are by far the best out there.

Micsorley was scared he knew he was sinking just the fack of knowing that he was sinking makes my skin crawl I can't imagine that feeling that night one of your guy vedio you guy said Anderson was asking to talk to captain of the Fitz he responded that it was him that tell me he was in fear if his voice wasn't the same

Its funny hearing people call certain skippers :Bad weather Bob' or "Heavy weather Harry" when in fact all captains were like that. Timid captains that delayed sailing or hid behind islands during bad weather didn't last one season, the company made sure of that.
