I remember the pregame. The Miami fans displayed headstones for every team they had beaten at home on their winning streak. They made one for Washington as well. This is my favorite college football memory.
For Miami unbelievably so but Washington is still a great program and frankly was playing the best football of any team in the Pac12 at the end of the year. And w/QB coming back next year they'll be good again. Huskies don't get a lot of love considering they play all the way up in Seattle, may as well be Canada, late night usually & a lot of big name teams don't want to travel up there for nonconference games
And now the Huskies are in the CFP as the #2 team--they should be #1. Anyway, they're 2 wins away from another National Championship. Oh, Miami is so not doing well.
Change for who the Huskies just played for the national championship and have won 23 of the last 25 games headed off to the Big ten change for the better
Interestingly enough, this was Washington's only road victory that season. They went 1-4 away from UW with 3 of the 4 losses being blowouts, finished the season 7-4 and did not even make a bowl game.
Washington qualified for a bowl at 7-4. No bowl invites bc they were on probation. That's why Don James retired. This was the 1st season for Jim Lambright as the head coach
Man Vegas has gotten much better at the spread. Having an early 90's Husky team a 15 point under dog was dumb regardless of the opposition. Like 2000's USC or today's Bama.
Washington only completed 18 passes to wide receivers that whole season, mostly playing 2 TE on every play, kinda a super low number, right? Sanctions must have really limited their WR talent that year. Damon Huard would have the height of his pro success in this very city, going 4-1 as a starter for the 1999 Dolphins. Color analyst Dick Vermeil would soon return to coaching, and he won the 1999 Super Bowl with Washington’s DMarco Farr leading the Rams defense
Doesn't surprise me a bit with Kaufman at tailback and his backup was rashawn sheehy who was up-and-coming runner is so the run game was unstoppable for the Huskies
The SR.s on both teams were all freshman in 91 when these teams split the title. So this game had some extra incentive for them all !
Crazy to thing almost all of the players are now pushing 50 years of age.
Napoleon Kauffman , ray lewis , lawyer milloy. Warren sap and bob sapp Some great legends in this game
Even Dwayne 'the rock' Johnson played in this game.
Don't forget Mark Breuner
Your spelling is fk-tup. Did you even try to go past the 4th grade?
man there was some NFL legends, and there were several really good NFL guys that had long careers! Both tight ends for UW had solid careers!
Damon Huard had a decent NFL career as well.
Gotcha! The Whammy in Miami… we all know who was better in 91
And yes, we are STILL talking about this game! Affectionately known as THE WHAMMY IN MIAMI!
The infamous Whammy in Miami. Go Dawgs!
Go dawgs
I remember the pregame. The Miami fans displayed headstones for every team they had beaten at home on their winning streak. They made one for Washington as well. This is my favorite college football memory.
Napoleon Kaufman was one helluva back
Best game I ever attended. The Orange Bowl was rockin that day with Dawg fans.
I remember this game well, should've been played in 91.
I remember that game and how arrogant miami was and I said Huskies are going to smoke em up 😂😂
Had to search this up after learning that bob the beast sapp and Dwayne The rock Johnson played each other, crazy where life can take you.
Future NFL stars on both teams. Heavyweight programs during that era. Times have certainly changed.

One of the best upsets of the 90's. Warren Sapp has to be the quickest DT off the line of all time. Focus in on him, and you'll see.
Now I remember why I forgot all about this game. ABC showed the Colorado/Michigan thriller where I was. So I missed this one.
Btw. These offenses were good. The defenses were epic
great video!!! THANK YOU ....................

This was their bowl game it was called the whammy bowl go Dawgs
Did anyone catch the rock in the video? # 94 for the canes
Love to hear Musberger with a mouthful of crow🤣👍

Is that Warren Sapp cousin ?
Yes
Not out of bounds in time, there was 2 seconds left. Wow
Woof-Woof !!!!!!!
This was the downfall for Miami for a few years.
RIP MIAMI!!!!!!

That is not true. Eric Bjornson had 49 catches. He was a receiver in college. Didn't become a Tight End until he was in the NFL.
The quarterback play looks pretty bad
No "kinda". It's shockingly low by today's standards. But back then, there weren't as many spread offenses like there is today.
Doesn't surprise me a bit with Kaufman at tailback and his backup was rashawn sheehy who was up-and-coming runner is so the run game was unstoppable for the Huskies
Go Dawgs!
30 years later and Warren Sapp still cannot call a coin toss right.
A disappointing ending to Miami (FL)'s 58 home game-winning streak 🏈
I don't understand why both teams senselessly tried 2 point conversions so early in the game.
Guess this settles the debate on 1991 huh?
Not really. Both rosters had a lot of turnover by this time.
Watched this with Jim gunst.
Ray Lewis 94?? I thought he was there later than 94
He was. He didn't turn pro until 1996.
Husky Dawgs Rule
As usual Miami resorted to cheap shots and their thug mentality towards the end of the game when they knew they were going to lose.
Especially Ray Lewis with that blatant facemask at the end of the game after he knew his team was gonna lose. Once a thug, always a thug.
Engles
The 2nd biggest win in Huskers history.
