Good game management. Proso makes a great birdfood for the wild, cage, or backyard feeder. Keep in mind when left standing proso will shatter. Top two seeds in every panicle will drop before the rest of the head is mature--don't worry. Turkey and doves will pick seed from ground or seedhead. A special variety of proso was developed in Florida called "Dove" for your exact purpose.

Love the video! Was the millet grown in South Dakota? Can millet be combined straight?

Yes, that video was filmed in Hughes and Sully Counties South Dakota. Although it is sometimes possible to straight combined with uniform drying, usually pre-maturity rains generate secondary heads requiring swathing.

I suggest that you seek out local varieties that fit your maturity, or select proso millet seed from importers into Pakistan. Please remember proso is photo-period sensitive and must be planted at appropriate times based on hours of sunlight.

Proso millet is mainly grown in the very dry semi-arid western U.S. Plains. As a result, proso yields vary greatly due to inconsistent moisture. In the last three years (2021, 2022, 2023) U.S. average yield is 1,419 pounds per acre (1266 kg/ha) with the low multi-state average of 1042 pounds/acre (1168 kg/ha), and the high in 2023 at 1915 pounds/acre (2146 kg/ha).
