Incredible season for the best Italian player in last years. He has brought milions of italian in front of the tv. There's a reason if he's the second most searched person on google in italy.

If his backhand develops more and he stays injury-free he will maintain a top 5 presence on the tour

his backhand is very similar to Roddick and Ruud. Just constant pushing, no power generated due to very short swing. The weakest backhand a top player can have.
I just checked his 2017 and 2018 season and he did an amazing glow up. January 2017 he was 433 in the world --> July 2018 he wins Gstaad and goes 54 in the ranking --> November 2019 he's qualified for ATP Finals. From 433 to ATP Finals in less than 3 seasons 😱
Why is his name never in the conversation of next in line?
He's shown he can play on all surfaces at the Highest Level and every year his game has gotten better.
Matteo reminds me a lot of a Del Potro who could also throw down on any surface. Huge serve & forehand too.
Amazing serve, forehand and mentality. But I think his backhand is too much of a weakness to really be the 'next in line'.

Matteo could be really good, I’m just afraid his way of hitting the ball( so much tension in the body with a very short but fast movement) and his physique( so heavy with his big chest muscles) might cause him too many injuries in the future. I hope not cause he’s a real joy to watch. His forehand when he has time is so tough to play against.
His little legs (which are genetic probably) don't help him stand a tank like him

My very favorite player! Il Martello!! 🤩🔨🔨 That first set against zverev on the finals was SOMETHING. Incredible tennis throught all season, except for the american tour after the lession in wimbledon. He has space to still improving (with the backhand) but his serve, slice and massive forehand always get the job done. Hopefully injuries don't take him away.
I think if his backhand improves and he stays safe from injury he'll be a permanent top 6 feature and maybe win a wimbledon or us open they are perfect for his play style
Incredible 5 final of season that was the best year of Berrettini. Bravissimo sempre. 🎾👏
6th in the Race without playing Miami, Montecarlo (he was there but his condition was terrible), Toronto, Bercy, and in Cincinnati he was not fit (after Wimbledon injury).
Sad to say but injuries will probably affect him very often.

This guy will never succeed the top 5. He has no weapon to develop himself into a top 5 player, average forehand, below average backhand, average slice, average volley, a little bit above average serve.
