दरवर्षी ३१ डिसेंबर चे औचित्य साधून हजारो हिंदू मित्र-मैत्रिणींच्या ताफ्यासह गोव्यात मस्ती,मज्जा करायला जात असतात.. गोवा म्हणजे ख्रिस्ती वर्ष साजरे करण्याचे या लोकांचे हक्काचे ठिकाण. महागडी हॉटेल्स, महागडे कॅसिनो, महागडे पब, महागडे जॉइन्ट्स, भरपूर दारू रिचवत रिचवत येथे ख्रिस्ती लोकांच्या संपणाऱ्या वर्षाला निरोप देण्याची आणि नवीन वर्षाचे स्वागत करण्याची परंपरा या देशातल्या हिंदूंनी स्वतःहून जोपासली आहे.. देशाच्या प्रत्येक राज्यातून अनेक पेताड येथे येत असतात. मात्र...मात्र... गाेवा येथेच एक चौक आहे. या चाैकात एक खांब आहे. या खांबाला 'हातकातरो खांब' असे म्हणतात. पोर्तुगीजांच्या राजवटीत ज्या हिंदूंनी त्यावेळेस हिंदू धर्म सोडून ख्रिश्चन होण्यास नकार दिला,विरोध केला त्या हिंदूंचे या खांबाला बांधून हात उपटले जात. अशा शेकड्याने नव्हे तर ८० हजार पेक्षा जास्त धर्मनिष्ठ हिंदूंचे हात या खांबाला बांधून मुळासकट उपटले गेले आहेत. म्हणूनच या खांबाला 'हातकातरो खांब' असे म्हटले जाते. सेंट झेवीयर्स नावाच्या धर्मांध हैवानाने ख्रिश्चन धर्माचा स्वीकार न करणाऱ्या हजारो हिंदूंच्या हत्या या हातकातरो खांबाला बांधून केल्या... जुन्या गोव्यातल्या मोठ्या चर्चमध्ये जो मुडदा जतन करून ठेवला आहे तो याचं सेंट झेवीयर्सचा आहे. त्याहीपेक्षा दुर्दैवी गोष्ट अशी की आपलेच हिंदु त्या मुडद्याला अक्षरशः पाया पडतात.अशा क्रूर,अमानवी, सैतानी कृत्य करणाऱ्या सेंट झेवीयर्सच्या पाया पडताना आपल्या हिंदुना काहीच कसे वाटत नाही? ज्या धर्मवीर संभाजी महाराजांनी,गुरुगोविंद सिंह,गुरु तेघबहाद्दर सिंह आणि त्यांच्या लहान मुलांनी ,बंदा बैरागी यांनी धर्मासाठी आपले प्राण त्यागले,बलिदान दिले त्यांच्या बलिदानाकडे दुर्लक्ष करून केवळ मस्ती-मज्जा करण्यासाठी गोव्यात जायचे आणि या ख्रिस्त्यांचा सण साजरा करायचा ही बाब अक्षरशः निंदनीय आणि लाजीरवाणी आहे. ज्यांनी आपल्यावर अगणित अत्याचार केले, आपल्या हत्या केल्या,धर्मांतरे घडवून आणली आणि अजूनही आणताहेत त्या विदेशी लोकांसमाेर लाचार हाेण्याची सवय या देशातील हिंदुना लागलेली आहे... इतके का आपण बुद्धिहीन झालो आहोत? अत्यंत लाजिरवाणी गोष्ट अशी की हे सगळं काही करणाऱ्या तरुण पिढीला 'पुढारलेले सुधारणावादी' म्हटलं जातं आणि याउलट अध्यात्माकडे वळलेल्या,धर्माप्रती प्रेम करणाऱ्या तरुण पिढीला मात्र मागास विचारांचे, खासफूस खाणारे,कट्टरवादी अशी दुषणे देतात. पण या लोकांनी एक गोष्ट लक्षात घ्यावी की ज्यांच्या आयुष्यात "राम" नाही त्यांचा कधीही राम नाम सत्य है होऊ शकतो... तूर्तास एवढेच. जय श्री राम.
