I never usually participate in the comments but I really felt the need you let you know that you're doing great! These are so useful for my uni exams revision when I need the context behind some of the ideas! Super concise, explained extremely well and entertaining animations. :D Very much appreciated!

Thanks mate, excellent video, on one point, some the practices of the Taiping Govt sound more like American Evangelicals with a bit of socialism throw in. Another question if I may? In the various Chineses culture's how much weight are given to dreams, in the individuals direction in life and purposes? Thank you again.

A very good attempt at a very touchy subject. An interesting auditing of the Taiping state.
This is why a separation of state and religion is probably a good idea.
To be fair, he tried. But he successfully found out another way to not do things.
We are starting to accumulate a lot of these. But we still don't really have any real ideas about what is the right thing to do.
    Isn't that a pain?

Awesome content. Please include in your description a link to the previous and next videos in the series! I have to rely on youtube algorithms or search currently. Am I missing your links somewhere? The algorithm says the next video is #1 but I know there's a #3 somewhere.

Thanks for this excellent video. I've watched a few videos on this topic and I'm wondering -- how did the approx. 20 million deaths happen? Were these killings mostly the responsibility of the Taiping gov't, the Qing gov't, or a combination of the two? This very shocking statistic is generally not discussed in detail in the discussions I've seen.

Both, the Taipings committed genocide against the Manchus while the Qing authorities committed genocide against the Hakkas. However, the largest factor was that the rebellion destroyed the infrastructure, economy and agriculture in nearby areas, killing off millions of people by disease and famine. Both sides waged total war, irreversibly harming civilian populations in the process.

@Protestant Well just to be clear, old Testament is as much a part of the Bible as the new one right? If you want people to read, study and follow the word of the Bible, that includes the older more wrathful "eye for an eye" God... Right?

after be defeated by Qing Empire, some of Taiping's remaining escaped to Vietnam and Laos.
Soon after, they begin corrupt and become a huge gang of robber. They killed, raped, looted the North Vietnam and Laos until 1885, when French Army defeated both of them and Qing Army.
Religion alone isn't enough to made you became a good guy. That is the lesson.
