    I had a huge breakthrough recently from a FAN club fact. In this case it was a church book note listing godparents. A godparent turned out to be a cousin, leading to finding a missing maiden name, leading to ten new records and eight new ancestors.

      Wow. How wonderful. We never know WHERE the crack in a brick wall will come from. For me it was DNA that started the ball rolling and told me what direction to look in. And I always get excited for people who have big break through because I know how it feels.

    Just found you and your channel yesterday and congratulations on hitting your 100k and getting your sliver button! Thank you for this video, it’s very timely as I’m going thought boxes and boxes and boxes of everything, my office looks like a tornado has hit it. I’m just going step by step and seeing what I have, trying to put everything and everyone in order and together and in the right families 😮😮. Once I have this all done I’m thinking how fun it will be to go in and research and see what’s right and what’s not.

    I am kind of a beginner. I’ve gotten so far, get stuck and don’t know how to proceed. I’m also adopted and I know who my birth mother is, but I’m still trying to discover my birth father is; I have a potential 1st cousin match through Ancestry DNA and his last name is Taylor, so I’m thinking maybe that could be the last name. Sorry for the length.😊

      One tool which is very helpful is a Leeds Analysis. It's not that difficult to learn how to do and I am sure there are tutorials out there. This tool will cluster your matches (ideally) in to four groups which relate to your paternal grandfather, paternal grandmother, maternal grandfather and maternal grandmother. It can be a very helpful tool, but you need matches in the 100-400cM range to make it work best. Good luck.

      Research that 1st cousin. Also if have any biological brothers have them take a Y-DNA test.

    First time here - watching replay - how do you use DNA. How do you obtain a DNA? Would I need to go to Ancestory for this? I have no living relatives so is this still possible?

    • @VanessaKittredge
      @VanessaKittredge หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can order a kit and take a test from Ancestry or 23 and Me or one of those companies. Once you return your sample they upload your info. Then the fun begins as you build a tree and track ancestors through the generations. Connie always says start with a question or person to focus your research. Go from there!

    • @carokat1111
      @carokat1111 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am a professional genealogist from Australia and I always recommend that people test with Ancestry first. Buy a kit, follow the instructions to get a saliva sample, and then when your results are ready you will see people who match you. The other companies out there - 23&Me, MyHeritage, Family Tree DNA etc, have things to offer as well, but Ancestry is the easiest to use and has the largest database. Connie is a fabulous teacher and I always learn from her videos, so go back in her catalogue of videos and you will find lots of useful information.

    What do you do when birth records list a married couple as the parents but the wife (my grandmother) lied? There are DNA matches (from my mother) that prove her mother lied.

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It could be she was her legal mother not biological mother.

    • @madisonrae7052
      @madisonrae7052 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @GenealogyTV she was her birth mother. My mother has so many dna matches to her mother's siblings children. I found who her birth father was thru DNA Painter... a neighbor. What concerns me is people on Ancestry go by the birth records which is logical but incorrect. Perhaps I should just let it go.
