When my grandma died in 1990, I kept her Osterizer blender when we cleaned out her house. It was made in Milwaukee in the early 1970's out of steel and cast metal with a glass jar. It still works like a champ.
I still got my Oster that was gifted to me when I got my house 20 years ago or so. Finally had to get some new gaskets for it, but the things still kicking.
I got mine in 2011, when I was an international student in La Crosse, WI. your words remind me of the good time I had in Wisconsin. BTW, it works fantastic
Mine's newer, probably late 70s. I bought it secondhand. I use it several times a week. I use baguettes so hard I have to use a mallet and chisel to break into smaller chunks, and it can crush ice without water. I like that I can use a mason jar with them, and replacement parts are still available.
I bought the Nutribullet, but not one displayed, but the original smaller one. Worked great on smoothies which I used it for but only lasted about a year. Bought another to replace and same happened. Wasn't the motor. It was the rubberized seals on them that would deform/detach and leak. Finally, just bit the bullet and bought the Vitamix and never had a problem.
Had my Black and Decker for 11 years now and it works great, the only thing was the lid became cracked and the company gladly replaced it (free of charge) when hubby called Customer Service. IF/when I have a need, I'll be sure to keep purchasing the Black and Decker brand for the blender. Thanks ATK for sharing your finds for this appliance....
Got the nutribullet on sale at Costco a couple years ago and it's been great. My wife has used it to make smoothies almost daily since we got it and it is still ticking.
A stick blender and an old cocktail shaker is what I use. Easier to use and clean. It was about $20 ten years ago. Look at all the controls on those gadgets!
I have the B&D, bit def not the quiet version. But works great for protein shakes and love that I can blend in the travel cup itself and don't need to mess up the entire piture for a shake.
Well..... I suspect that for "some/many" of us mere mortals $60 would be a high-end blender purchase. And likely 'most' of us don't use a blender often enough to warrant spending $60, let alone a full Benjamin on one of the machines. But I DO enjoy watching the reviews and HAVE bought several of your recommendations over the years as they fit my needs and budget.
@@ibewill Yes, and this is from someone who owns a Vitamix 5200. I spent $400 on a blender that spends most of the time collecting dust in the name of "it will last forever".
The Nutribullet looks it would to the job for blending 5 or 6 tomatoes, partial onion, peppers for salsa or a couple roasted tomatillos, garlic, tomatoes for Picadillo sauce. The base of the pitcher is wide so the blades can turn without binding when doing tomatillos since they can be dense even when halved. The one thing I don't like it that is has a plastic pitcher. Those are notorious for fogging after a while and being difficult to keep clear without putting a lot of effort into it. I much prefer a glass pitcher. . The other issue is not being able to remove the blades. I'm in the market for a new blender because my current Oster with a glass pitcher and removable blades is pretty narrow at the bottom so when making salsas, I have to do it in multiple batches otherwise it takes a bit for the items to move around in the pitcher. I guess it's not all that bad but it would be nice to be able to drop everything in and go. Even the super expensive Vita-Mix has a plastic pitcher and doesn't have removable blades. I would expect more from a $400 appliance.
Just bought a black and decker at Walmart and got 2 whole uses before the base of the plastic carafe cracked! 😮 I use a blender on a daily basis to primarily make smoothies. And since my Oster gave out, I was looking for an inexpensive replacement as the Oster only cost $25. Guess it’s back to the drawing board! For me $100 is pretty expensive for a piece of plastic!
Had a nutribullet this, ninja that, expensive, both didn't last more than a year. My good old glass blender that cost half is still around after 5 years (everyday use). Forget the gimmicks, solid motor and good build will last forever.
Just bought that Nutribullet a couple weeks ago and so far it's fantastic! Interesting thing I noticed is that compared to my food processor whose blades are basically razors, these aren't that sharp. Haven't found anything yet that it won't liquefy, though.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 I’ve been following this channel for a while. And the products that I purchased based on their recommendations do last. This channel was on TV before youtube. If the products they suggest are trash, then this channel wouldn’t have its longevity.
Their definition of inexpensive and my definition are worlds apart. I own a 1400 watt Ninja - Professional Plus Kitchen System with Auto-iQ that comes with a blender, food processor, and two personal smoothie cups with lids. It is powerful and more cost effective as I got three different products all wrapped in one for about $30 more than just a blender. I have owned it for a couple of years now and the blades have remained sharp. I prefer fruit smoothies to kale and never make my own mayo but have an immersion blender for that. I make my own pesto and the ninja does a fantastic job chopping the nuts and greens. I also make my own nut butters too. I know not everyone wants or needs all of these items but having a single serve smoothie cup beats having to wash the whole blender.
Will this blender purée ancho, guajillio, pasillo and other dried chilies sufficiently so a mesh strainer is not required to remove the skins? Nothing worse than skins in Texas red chili.
That NutriBullet is nice but I am personally not a fan of the NutriBullet Brand. I used to have a Magic Bullet machine until it started leaking all the way to the bottom of the blender base. So my 3 year old Cuisinart Food and Beverage 2 Speed Blender (Formerly the Waring Pro brand type) is good enough for me.
How was the nutribullet compared to the Breville? I was considering both - partially Breville biased because I have some other appliances by them but want the smoothest blend 😅
Gonna have to say I'm still betrayed by the recommendation of the nutribullet since it has a track record of not lasting more than six months (according to a few amazon reviews!) The manufacturer themselves have recommended replacement after six months. Sure, it made hummus but a food processor still served that purpose fine; the smoothies were like, okay, and I felt it like thew the ingredients up around the sides of the pitcher. I'm completely baffled by them having a plastic pitcher AND saying it definitely doesn't last. I'm probably giving the vitamix a swing lol.
I was tired of having to buy a new blender every couple of years, finally gave in and bought the vitamix. Five years later, still thrilled with it. It's the workhorse of my kitchen.
I bought a used Vitamix about twelve years ago when a lot of the Starbuck's were going out of business and liquidating their equipment. It's fantastic and a real workhorse. You won't regret making the investment.
I would love to see a review on the Brandless blender that is current on sale for $100. I have a Vitamix and am not particularly happy with it. I'm going to consider replacing it with the NutriBullet.
Don’t get the brandless. I fell in love and ignored the bad reviews. Mine died today 😭 It didn’t even last a year with moderate use. Hence, I’m here trying to figure out what to replace it with that doesn’t need a bank loan to purchase. Best wishes for yours.
Would have been good to include the Syvio 1450W and Nutribullet 1500W both of which essentially came in top-of-category according to the video by Project Farm.
The Nutribullet is attractive but what about the company's advice that blades should be replaced every six months? I found this mentioned in several customer reviews during my research. Would love to know how much of a concern this should be for the ordinary cosumer-on-fixed-budget.

From ATK latest blender test for Best Blender 2023: We liked how quiet this blender was, relatively speaking, and it did a very good job with every task. Smoothies were a touch frothier than we prefer, and it took a little coaxing with the tamper to get this machine to grind almond butter continuously, though once it did, the results were beautiful and silky smooth. Its interface was initially a little confusing to navigate, with small and sometimes cryptic icons and a tiny on/off button. But after we got the hang of using it, we liked it just fine.
