He hearkens back to a style of singing that hasn't been in style since the 1960s. That was around the time when the "pop style" of singing started to permeate Broadway.
Considering the relatively small role that the "Freddy Eynsford-Hill" character had in the show, he really got an amazing song to sing. And the singer here does a masterful job with it.
@@annawan2518 I thought Jeremy Brett was terrific in the film version. I didn't realize until recently that he plays Sherlock Holmes in the British TV series of the same name. Unfortunately, the director of the film had many of the actors dubbed, even though they could sing just fine. Jeremy Brett was one of them; his songs were dubbed by Bill Shirley.
Jeremy Brett was a young and underrated actor at time. Unfortunately the producer did not use Brett's version to his dissapointment ( Same with Hepburn's version being dubbed over) . Unfortunate considering that J.B. had a very rich singing voice .
Now THIS is a real Broadway singer! It’s phenomenal to know that the good classical foundation hasn’t died from the genre thanks to singers like this man

I had the privilege of seeing Mr. Donica perform this live on stage, and it was one of the greatest live performances I'd ever heard. The recorded version is also terrific. I don't believe any man has ever acted this song better. Bravo!
Really? Bartlett Sher really messed this one up. Mr Donica dashed around, chewing the scenery in the most attention grabbing performance I'd seen in years. Sorry Trevor Nunn's legendary production for the National Theatre and Moss Hart's original London and West End productions had Freddy Eynsford-Hill properly melancholy with young love. Not desperate for audience applause.
Really? You think "young love" is melancholy? How very sad you must be. Mr. Donica nailed it! He was full of the invincibility of young, positive, exuberant bravado of a man who thinks he has just found "the one." That is the interpretation that rings most true for me.
Both you are right. Love is always connected to melancholy at least if it comes to art. The most beautiful love songs ever (by John Dowland) where complete melancholies. If it comes to the human side, as which I would see the acting here, he is young and vibrant thinking he just met the one and only but is she? That will always be the question, will my partner be the right person for me.
Of the many performances I've seen of this particular song, this has to be my favorite. He puts the right amount of energy into his words and adds endearing quirks that most other singers missed
I was 16, would drive by his house just to catch a glimpse. Out of breath, waiting. That overwhelming feeling. Married him. Still feel that overwhelming feeling, just to know he is near. Music is magical!
What a voice Jordan Donica has, this has become my favourite version of this song. The power and richness of his singing is absolutely fantastic. Bravo sir.
God has given people talent, has been and always will, its up to individuals to hone those talents. This sort of singing takes discipline, something that many of today's youth seem to avoid! Just look at dancing 70 years compared to today. Back then people had moves, now people just bounce which ever way. A good friend of mine once told me, there are no "Tone deaf" people, there are just people who arent "Toned trained" . There is greatness out there yet, people just have to want to be great and be willing to do the work.
When I think that, I remind myself to keep up with modern culture, Ron Richo. Then, I somehow forget to because there would be so much marginal material to go through to find it. Maybe that has always been true.
who is this guy?????? i love him. he puts his entire body into the song. i understood every word he sang. he brings the words to life. he is talent itself. .....and handsome.
I'm going to be singing this at a live production in my city celebrating 60 years of theatre. Jordan's portrayal is my inspiration - hope I do him justice!
If a male singer can come down so softly and so gently on the words " the overpowering feeling, that any second you may suddenly appear".... Well, you had me at hello. 💕 (build up to it from 1:42 )

You can say what you want about supposed "greats" who've played this role in the past but really, has anyone ever done it better? Not just "singing" a song, but becoming "Freddie" & totally performing in character. This is real recording. The way is used to be done...live with the orchestra. No AutoTune here.
It's flawless.
What a sense the singer brings to the fore ? What the lyric conveys, manifests before our eyes.
Apparently the way it is still done. The way it used to be done back in the 60s had a poor sound quality imo.
