I actually have been doing this ice trick for almost half a year now. Now, I just have to mention it that in our country, we do have a very hot climate so I do see it as a relaxing treatment to my face (sometimes i rub it on my body too). This ice trick did help with my chest acne and acne on my forehead. Because of the temperature in our country, my pimples really do get like irritated because of the heat and so the ice really did help. And one observation of mine is that the ice helps my pimples to dry up faster. And I have been doing this for quite some time so I am used to it and I have never seen an adverse reaction on my face while doing this. But it is important to weigh out the effects of this tho, make sure you can handle all the negatives.
@SomniateXoX no, don’t worry! your skin is capable of being cold which is basically what Ice is doing; just making your skin cold lol However you should 1.) be constantly moving the ice (don’t hold it in one place) and 2.) only do it for about 30secs at a time to avoid putting your skin at risk of damage. You are doing the right thing keeping the ice in a bag, but if you want to be extra cautious you can 3.) wrap it in tissue/a rag so that the ice is not directly on the skin; also don’t do it everyday/give your skin a break regularly and obviously stop if you notice any negative changes in your skin
I’ve never understood the appeal of ice facials. They aren’t relaxing. And my skin turns red if you so much as look at it funny so icing just turns me bright red that takes forever to go away.
I use an ice roller, but when I take it out the freezer I let it warm up a tad first. I have quite reactionary skin but this doesn’t actually upset it which is rare. Also I’m nearly 40 and getting hot flushes more and this really helps

Hi James and Cassandra, my dad has Neuralgia, and it’s heartbreaking to see him in pain. And yes, he cannot have anything cold touching his face, not even wind!
I have a very warm face and the ice helps reducing swelling and redness from my sores. Yes your face looks red right after the ice but after a bit it goes away and reduced the redness prior of the facial. Just don't be stupid and keep it in one place, but instead move it around alot and stop after your skin feels cold to the touch. This together with niacinamide really helps to calm my skin down.
before i start fully watching this vid, i just wanted to say that I actually do put ice on my face too! not every day tho.. and tbh I don't find it uncomfortable, I kinda like the feeling of it and it actually reduces make my pores look smaller & reduce some puffiness too..
I used to do green tea ice cube facials because I saw one of James' old videos saying that it could be used as a toner lol. I usually did it once weekly along with my regular routine hoping that it would help calm the redness from my hormonal acne/ingrown beard hairs. If it did anything, it was minimal, I don't think that it damaged my skin, but I haven't done it in a while. I appreciate the collab, this was very informative!
Love this duo 😍 Cassandra adds science to James, and James slows Cassandra a bit down. Sorry to say that but sometimes I need to pause her video's to take notes. She is full of info, but God she talks fast. Sending love to both of you
I agree, Cassandra relayed some key information and made accurate predictions. This therapy appears to be derived from sauna, but is missing the lengthy sweating before jumping into cold, and so interesting how it impacted James rosacea. This is one of his best videos, imo.
I like putting warm compresses on my eyes. I love the way it feels, especially after a long work day, since I sit in front of a computer all days. It’s so relaxing.
James is really out here giving us time stamps for the different parts of the video, what a king. It genuinely makes me watch the whole thing twice out of appreciation for his consideration.
As someone with pretty tough rosacea, I was praying for James' skin I remember doing this when I was younger and I got some pretty nasty flare ups, just like I did when I used physical exfoliants... definitely not worth it whatsoever
I have Trigeminal neuralgia and I can definitely tell you it is one of the worst pains I have ever felt, it’s often referred to as “suicidal headaches” because the pain is so extreme you cannot distract yourself from it. Winter is hell, and I cannot put anything cold on my face. I need to use hot water to brush my teeth to avoid a flare up, and mouthwash etc has to be warm. (And going to the dentist is hellish.) I’ve not had ice in drinks in years. The first time I flared up I literally thought I was having a brain aneurysm or something. 😓 Brought me to my knees, and all I did was exit my house, not even doing anything like experimenting with beauty tips. 😂
Spot treatment being careful not to get things too cold is probably different than doing your whole face just because? I mean, cold does help with inflammation and some pimples are SUPER inflamed and painful.
I have been suffering with acne for the past few months and for the last month I started gently icing my face with a buffer towel. So, it’s cold, but not directly on my face. I press and hold a second and then press and hold in another spot. It has dramatically improved my inflamed acne. I think that’s different than putting ice directly on your face.
When I was going through the worst spout of painful, inflamed cystic acne I have ever had in July, I started using an ice cube on my face morning and evening after an aesthetician I follow on Twitter recommend it for inflamed acne and took photos of my results. I have photos that are 2 days in between and the difference is amazing. The redness and inflammation had gone down considerably and my skin overall just looked healthier and did have a “healthy glow” to it! Since then, it is something that I swear by for inflamed spots or acne!
I suffered from Trigeminal neuralgia, the pain... undescrible. Eventually I had brain surgery to "fix" it. What Cassandra said about cold being a trigger is 100% correct!!! I'm actually still afraid of the cold even after my surgery.. the 'what if it came back' fear. I do love watching you, and your brother, both together and individually. I have learned so much from you two. Love you, keep on educating!!
I use ice on my large inflamed red pimples and they are half the size the next day. I use one ice cube and evenly go around my face as well as extremely gently around the inflamed area and on it. I do it on wet cleansed skin and the water of the cube melting creates slip. It’s not on my face long enough to cause any redness even and I clearly see results more than any other product I have ever used. The apposing science based arguments make sense, but I’m going to go on my own personal experiences.
OMG, I did this every day in the morning, but when my skin got ultra-dry, I stopped completely. Also, I have mild seizures (I don't do that eyes roll into your head mind you) but, either my meds are really effective or my seizures aren't that bad.

I've already said this before, but I'm sure all comments just get lost, but I rub ice on my face on a hot summer's day before I put on my make-up. I really don't expect any long term benefits, but, I think, since it cools down the skin quite a bit, it takes a bit longer for it to get all super hot and, in turn, shiny
Poor thing, cluster headaches are hell on earth. I'd probably just throw myself off the balcony. I hope we find a reliable treatment soon, psychedelics seem promising...
I actually like wrapping an ice cube in a cloth and massage it over my face, keeping it in movement. It kinda relaxes my muscles and i feel less hot in my face and less puffy around my eyes. I don't know about the pore shrinking but it just relaxes me.
I live in a tropical country so the cold does not get that much to me. So I have been icing my face for years and it stops pimples from going back. Everytime I stop using it bad pimples break out again. But I saw Cassandra’s video saying it might damage the facial nerves and tissue so I stopped. And now I have tiny pimples everywhere and rough skin. I guess I really need ice. Base on my experience. So it’s a case to case basis and I tolerate ice directly on my face but not for more than 5 seconds on the same spot. So I am going back to icing my face since yesterday. ✋
James scared af after the whole talk with Cassandra, I can totally relate because it's the same face I put on whenever I do something stupid with my skin and search on the internet if I really should be doing it lmao
When I found out The apricot scrub and ice was the reason I had acne and DRY PATCHES 😭 I EVEN HAVE VIDEOS WHERE MY STUPID SELF WAS RUBBBINGGGG THE LIVING HELL OUTTA THAT SCRUB. and followed up with ice ;-;
Cold that ISNT ice can activate the diving reflex and help make you feel calmer. It mildly activates the parasympathetic nervous system as well (the part of your nervous system that is active when you’re NOT in fight or flight, I.e. calm or happy). That’s probably part of the reason it feels nice after a long day - but there are much better, much safer ways to get the same thing (as you mentioned - heck, even two cucumber slices is safer). I’m a therapist and I have clients use a cold wet cloth over the eyes or just straight up chill water in the eye area to help them regulate when they’re anxious.
When I started repairing my dry and dehydrated rosacea skin last September, I loved using frozen rice water on it. At the time, it was relieving. But I stopped during my first purge - not knowing it was a purge and thinking that I may have burned my face with the ice or something despite it not being done every day or for very long. I never went back to the ice because after the purge, while I get more traditional breakouts now than when my skin was the Sahara, the skin itself is like a baby's bottom... upon which I would never lay an ice cube. I keep my caffeine gel in the fridge and have a few tools in the freezer... but never again with ice.
I always wonered how people thought that the pores opened and closed. It was something I never felt could happen but anyway I learned from my dermatologist there are 3 things that make your pores "look big" aka they are just really conjested. And if you can completely eliminate 1 and I guess slightly combat the other your pores will essentially shrink because 1. The hair (which we really can't get rid of) 2. Dirt (sebum and from the elements) 3. And sweat (and oil) (which we can't control but we can can combat)
I did the ice cube before!! 😭I know, BUT I was desperate, and I saw it done elsewhere! I was like okaaaay...live and learn...that's why I listen to James now and never looked back!!!🖤💜🤗🤗💜🖤
Everytime the ice touched his face I cringed. Just imagining how cold that is. Though living in Florida it would maybe feel good on the days when the heat never ends.....so most days!💜
My esthetician acted like i was ruining my chances of having clear skin when i told her i only put the ice (wrapped in a towel) on my pimples instead of all over my face like she told me
I’m glad you did this, I honestly went down a rabbit hole recently of HACKS and thought oh lord none of this is James Welsh approved, but the ice facial is so intriguing. Not anymore
I reccomend using steam and ice once or twice a week. And if you have enlarged pores I reccomend doing that in addition to very cold water after you cleanse your skin once a day
Well, I also did rub my face with an ice cube a couple of times after my facial. It did more harm to my skin than anything good. Since I have a very sensitive skin, my skin turned out to be more red with flushes!!! From then, I decided never to rub my face with an ice cube again. Anyway, thanks for the video! 😍🙏🏻
Just a thought but perhaps one of the benefits could be slightly reduced face fat (that is if you desire reduced facial fat). But I feel it would take very long consistency to see even slight results. Although I’m not entirely sure about the research behind it and I don’t know whether just an ice cube would do that but hey food for thought.
Happy Sunday, James! I have to say, I learned something from this post . . . I learned that I need ice sphere molds because they will just set off my cocktail making ability!! 💕💕💕💕💕
When doing such an experiment, I’d suggest doing just half your face so you have something to compare to (eg is what you are seeing what was gonna happen to your skin anyway or caused by the intervention). It would be a way to mitigate the placebo effect. Just my scientist 2 cents ^^;
I did this one time for a second, red frostbites on my sensitiv skin! Smaller pors yes, angry skin.... also yes! It actually triggered a butterfly rash, which is the rash we lupus patients get, despite the fact that I used a cloth between the ice and the skin. 😱
Okie, so this video randomly just started playing as a result of auto play. I was listening to it while working. When she starts talking about the epilepsy and nerve disorder, i have both, it terrified me. Thank you, thank you for this video.
James! Cassandra suggested to not put it directly in your face! Why did you that in your eyes area? 😭 it's important to wrap it with a towel or a soft fabric
I loved to see you both together, you two are my go to creators on TH-cam for skin. And just in general, nice to see that you are friends. Loved it. ❤️
My mum always used to give ice massage after facials and she told me that we never should use ice directly on skin. She would always use a cotton towel or muslin cloth, wrapped ice in it and then use it. Also never straight out of freezer, give it 15 seconds atleast
My mom used to do that when she was in her 30s. She said that it kind of helped with appearance of smile lines BUT she got periodontitis because of it.
I prefer my jade roller cooled on my face for a massage treat. Only time I did ice was a bathtub full after a horrible sunburn from the neck down on my backside (fell asleep on the beach duh LOL). That wasn’t fun at all and the aloe gel cooled in the fridge helped more. Don’t ice your face anymore, it looks handsome just as it is. 🥰
That's cause our body self regulates and blood rushing to the surface of the skin is to make us warm. I live in a hot and humid city and when anyone speaks of a natural flush, I'm just like, "Wut?"
@@JamesWelsh I'm in hospital with covid. Won't stop me from watching you Robert and the twin channel. I'm waiting for radiology to get some tests, but, I can watch when I get back in my room. 💜💜🖤
I feel like if any of it would give you any benefits - it would be contrast showers. If you can't take in on the whole body then at least doing it for your skin, if you take only hot showers - end it with rinsing your face in cold water. That is bound to boost your circulation and has other health benefits.
I’ve only used ice on bad cystic acne, but always wrapped in a paper towel. It did help bring down inflammation and sped up healing. ✨For me✨
thats great!! did u apply it everyday twice or?
me too!
Has the potential to give you frostbite

Me tooooo and I have sensitive skin 🌸
for me an icecube works really well. I have acne so it seems to work (aswell as the glow)
i literally started rubbing ice on my face 2 days ago 👁👄👁 and then i see this vid
I STARTED THIS MORNING AHAHA
Same!
I’ve been doing it for 4 months and this is the best my skin has ever looked 😖😫🙃
Same sis...I started a week ago tho...wtf...
I started rubbing ice one year before
I live in a tropical country so the cold does not get that much to me. ✋
Yass!! You two are shining bright like two diamonds 💎💜
James! Of course it would make redness worse! Have we not already been told that cold and hot water breaks capillaries??!!
I was a guinea-pig for some cyrolypo treatments. Me and the other girl got some 3rd degree "burns" from the treatment. Highly not recommended - run
James scared af after the whole talk with Cassandra, I can totally relate because it's the same face I put on whenever I do something stupid with my skin and search on the internet if I really should be doing it lmao
When I found out The apricot scrub and ice was the reason I had acne and DRY PATCHES 😭
I EVEN HAVE VIDEOS WHERE MY STUPID SELF WAS RUBBBINGGGG THE LIVING HELL OUTTA THAT SCRUB.
and followed up with ice ;-;
Okay wow she’s so beautiful. Her smile is so contagious! I could watch her talk all day 😍
Wahh I wish it did lol. I used to do this back in the day especially when my face was irritated, this does not work. It does more damage than good.
The collab I’ve been waiting for!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Your nails are so cute on the thumbnail ! 😍
Agree!!
I always wonered how people thought that the pores opened and closed. It was something I never felt could happen but anyway I learned from my dermatologist there are 3 things that make your pores "look big" aka they are just really conjested. And if you can completely eliminate 1 and I guess slightly combat the other your pores will essentially shrink because
1. The hair (which we really can't get rid of)
2. Dirt (sebum and from the elements)
Joan Crawford was known to wash her face in ice water daily, therefor I had to do the same.
the collab Ive been WAITING for!
The audacity to call me out like this, unprovoked lmao
My esthetician acted like i was ruining my chances of having clear skin when i told her i only put the ice (wrapped in a towel) on my pimples instead of all over my face like she told me
I’m glad you did this, I honestly went down a rabbit hole recently of HACKS and thought oh lord none of this is James Welsh approved, but the ice facial is so intriguing.
Not anymore
THAT WAS SOOOOOOO INFORMATIVE, please do more of this❤️
Cassandra Bankson sure knows about skin! She's awesome. :)
I reccomend using steam and ice once or twice a week. And if you have enlarged pores I reccomend doing that in addition to very cold water after you cleanse your skin once a day
In the summer I store aloe vera gel in the fridge because I do get sunburned easy no matter how much sunscreen I use
“Short answer, no. Long answer, no “ I love him 😂😂😂😂
James just know that I love you💕💕💕
🥲💜💜💜
Well, I also did rub my face with an ice cube a couple of times after my facial. It did more harm to my skin than anything good. Since I have a very sensitive skin, my skin turned out to be more red with flushes!!! From then, I decided never to rub my face with an ice cube again. Anyway, thanks for the video! 😍🙏🏻
I have trigeminal neuralgia caused by a tumour on the trigeminal nerve - so glad so see it mentioned as most people I've met have never heard of it!
When doing such an experiment, I’d suggest doing just half your face so you have something to compare to (eg is what you are seeing what was gonna happen to your skin anyway or caused by the intervention). It would be a way to mitigate the placebo effect. Just my scientist 2 cents ^^;
I did this one time for a second, red frostbites on my sensitiv skin! Smaller pors yes, angry skin.... also yes! It actually triggered a butterfly rash, which is the rash we lupus patients get, despite the fact that I used a cloth between the ice and the skin. 😱
Your PNG really shinning through!! #science
Okie, so this video randomly just started playing as a result of auto play. I was listening to it while working. When she starts talking about the epilepsy and nerve disorder, i have both, it terrified me. Thank you, thank you for this video.
I use my stainless steel facial roller (in the freezer) for cold rolling but it does not make my face red and uncomfortable!
Yes Cassandra!! I love her!
Okaaay but the design on your nails?? Love it, so gorgeous!
James! Cassandra suggested to not put it directly in your face! Why did you that in your eyes area? 😭 it's important to wrap it with a towel or a soft fabric
I loved to see you both together, you two are my go to creators on TH-cam for skin. And just in general, nice to see that you are friends. Loved it. ❤️
Yas queen and king of skin care in one video .. we LOVE to see this
My mum always used to give ice massage after facials and she told me that we never should use ice directly on skin.
My rosacea has improved considerably since moving to a warmer climate.
That's cause our body self regulates and blood rushing to the surface of the skin is to make us warm. I live in a hot and humid city and when anyone speaks of a natural flush, I'm just like, "Wut?"
Hellllooooo James 💜 I hope you have a wonderful day!💜💜
You toooooooo ☺️💜💜
@@JamesWelsh I'm in hospital with covid. Won't stop me from watching you Robert and the twin channel. I'm waiting for radiology to get some tests, but, I can watch when I get back in my room. 💜💜🖤
@@jamier9851 Hi we are friends on Twitter, so sorry to hear you're not well . Get better soon ..🤍💯
@@jamier9851 omg are you allright? :((
@@jamier9851 sending positivity and good vibes your way 💞🤗
I feel like if any of it would give you any benefits - it would be contrast showers. If you can't take in on the whole body then at least doing it for your skin, if you take only hot showers - end it with rinsing your face in cold water. That is bound to boost your circulation and has other health benefits.
Omg I have epilepsy and never realised this ice on skin issue !
