- I love hauling our Lobster and Crab pots, it’s so exciting to see what we have caught and it often brings such delicious fresh shellfish for our family. Then I spend a couple of hours fishing for Mackerel and other species on a fine winter day.

It would be business as usual when I lived in York.
It’s not the country folks who struggle. Usually it’s the Chelsea tractor or VW Transporter drivers.

Not sure how this ended up in my feed but it truly makes me miss living in Alaska, dropping crab pots, fishing, hunting for subsistence. Now I live in Germany and while Germany is great it doesn't offer that experience.

Can't beat Mackerel when they are as fresh as that! Great video as always. The fishing with a prawn under a float was the same tactic we used in Georgia on the river channels out of Savannah. The redfish couldn't resist them and they are fabulous eating fish too!

Judging by the background noise (helicopter rotors/engines) when pulling the pots, I guess you must be somewhere around Falmouth, John. Nice haul today, 1 crab and a big lobster along with loads of fresh mackerel. Love the videos.

Former Nova Scotia girl. Being stuck out into the Atlantic means catching all the horrendous ocean storms. Now, in Ontario, we get vicious weather from the North, slamming highways closed and trapping motorists for days.

That was a top-class video mate a mixed bag 1st with that cracking lobster!! Some 1 will enjoy that. Then the unbelievable wrasse what a stunning fish I've always said they wouldn't look out of place on the Australian reef. Then some hectic action with the mackerel fishing. Brilliant video mate. I enjoy every second watching you fishing, so kind to the fish too, despatch all together. My grandfather use to fish every day from Clacton on Sea pier, he died with his rod in the water making newspaper many many years ago (I’m 70 now and it was at least 44 years ago ) You remind me of him, well weathered but so kind too the way you are with James I mean. Well watching an older one now but who cares. Be Safe Love your Family always. Xx

Love the new camera! I think it's great that you share the crab/lobster with others. We can only purchase in stores or seafood restaurants. Fishing and foraging there looks like great fun and provides a delicious meal!

very much enjoy the fishing session; appreciate any words of wisdom re. boat control when drifting so close to the structures. BTW, the snow in the opening shots are barely mention here where we drifts meters deep with frigid -30c temps and colder!

Hi John just enjoyed watching your latest video. I have been float fishing for more years than I care to think about! I thought l would share a couple of lessons I have learnt in that time
If you use double prawn or shrimp mount then on the hook back to back, they then tend to provide more movement.
To emulate the‘clicking’ that prawns and shrimp generate use to ball weights. The noise that the weights produce, as they knock against each other, is not dissimilar to the ‘clicking’.

We've lived in Scotland for 2Years and not seen Snow yet, we expected it to be freezing all the time but it seams much milder here than in Derbyshire where we come from

Certainly had to work for the shellfish today, but well worth the effort. That large wrasse, so vividly spotted and colourful. Fantastic shots of the sounder showing what's under the boat, along with the clarity, excellent.

Love the snow in Cornwall! Everyone goes mental when it snows here because it is so rare on the southern most tip pf North Carolina. It's fun to listen to the Yanks tell us we know nothing about snow. It is a messmerizing to watch it falling on the beach. I've only seen it once. Happy fishing!

Great John , sea state looked hard mate. In the background you could see the force of the waves against the rocks!! 😮. It amazes me that the little fish that get trapped don’t get harmed if the pot also has crabs or lobsters inside. I guess sometimes they do? , Efforts appreciated bud 👍🏼
Sometimes the crabs and lobsters catch them and eat them. 🤣

Lovely catch of shellfish there, well worth the cold hands, few comments from subscribers about it being lumpy, they should try being on a 100ft side trawler on the northern edge of the Dogger Bank in a storm, now that is "lumpy", lol 👍
