  • "Last year we said: ‘It can’t go on like this’. But it will… unless we do something about it. The cure is to vote for a party which sees Britain not a shop or a charity but as our home. A homecoming."
William Clouston's keynote address to the SDP Conference highlights the plight of British voters at next year's general election, faced with a choice between two parties which have beggared the country and do not share the people's values. He offers eight points of advice for those who want to see real change and an an opportunity to build the country they want.
The transcript of the speech is available to read here:

The SDP is a patriotic, economically left-leaning, and culturally traditional political party.

I met William at the New Culture Forum conference in Birmingham several months ago. Found him to be a serious and thoughtful individual with an imposing presence. Unlike the likes of Starmer and Sunak.

This man is an intellectual and a serious thinker. His analysis of our nations' problems is spot on. He also has the appetite to lead. He would have my vote tomorrow.

Big fan of Clouston (despite not sharing his politics), believe him to be a truly conviction politician!

@nowherepeople3431 I am a Classical Liberal. So a much smaller state than Clouston does and I also want more tax simplification and less reliance on the state as a whole in the economic, social and political sphere!

A good idea, let's face it, they are battered with the "current modern progressive fashion" almost constantly.

I recommend changing the party name, making your message simpler and clearer, and learning how to engage better with the public on social media. If the party is socially right-wing and economically left-wing there really is no excuse for it being almost unknown to the public, because this is the biggest electoral demographic in the country.

You will win people over with a national success economy William. Maybe Protectionism is too much of a dirty word, but you can win people over. You have me.

William is a great chap to listen to, the SDP is the party that millions of people would vote for…. if only anyone knew of the SDP. That is THE problem. Get the great unwashed talking about your party and you are on the way to a great 2024. Perhaps finding a friendly billionaire would be a good start. Politics is so damn sad, it will just be a labour / conservative two horse race yet again.

This is NOT the same party of Roy and Shirley and David.
So change the name and don't mislead voter. Dont vote tory, but vote tactically.
And don't vote SDP until you have a progressive agenda.

Great speech, poorly presented. We don't want rabble rousers, but we must be more outspoken and inspiring, otherwise the electorate will ignore us.

This speech? God help us. Who will get the actual job done? Manifesto? We badly need a game plan and action taken. All those thank-yous, help. Listen to what was said. Incapable of fixing anything.
