    The US Open is the final Grand Slam of the year and takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The 2021 US Open saw Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Great Britain's Emma Raducanu claim the men's and women's singles titles. It was both players' first major title, with 18-year-old Raducanu becoming the first-ever qualifier to achieve the feat. The 2022 US Open main draw is scheduled to go ahead between August 30 - September 11.

    What’s amazing about Fernandez is she’s about to lose the game but makes a come back and doesn’t stop fighting. She did it the game against Osaka, Svitolina and this one against Kerber.

    As a Kerber fan, this match hurts but I have to say Leylah played incredibly. I wish angie could’ve won this since I feel she could’ve gone all the way but Leylah deserved her run to the final. Hopefully angie gets revenge next time tho 🤞

      I don't see Kerber getting revenge. Fernandez had Kerber doing some serious cardio. Those thick strong thighs of Kerber were cooked and tired in that third set. She probably doesn't want this match up again.

      My theory as a lefty is the always pit the lefties against each other to get rid of them, even at the local level. I think I'm only half joking on this. Both these woman are admirable, Leylah, of course, as the possible next best thing, Angie as the late in career pro getting it all together again for another swing around the tour.

    One of the most exciting matches of the last USOpen, where Leylah demonstrated she is among the best young tennis player, including Emma, Bianca, Swiatek, Cauff, Kostyuk, Tauson, and few others. WTA Tennis will be fun to watch in the future with all these new players.

  • @2369drew
    @2369drew 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    What is baffling about lefty Leyla is she is the younger one against kerber,, osaka, etc but she flips the table and making these top players get frustrated and gets them to make mistakes. Imagine the young one making the more powerful and experienced ones make mistakes. U see osaka got so frustrated that she threw the racket and did some delayed tactics. Here u see Kerber frustrated too. They were underestimating leyla, u know they were and they started bagging a win way too early against leyla who btw has deep tank of fitness.

    • @larontezmoore3313
      @larontezmoore3313 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never underestimate your opponent. Kerber thought she had it after the first set but by the end of second set and start of third the momentum shifted. Fernandez wore Kerber out and ran her until she couldn't run anymore. Kerber was running out of gas and tapped out. A teenager tapped out 2 time grand slam champion Kerber...that's a little embarrassing for Angie. Experience doesn't mean anything when your opponent shows you how much more stronger, faster, tougher, and smarter they are compared to you.

    Leylah's matches are more exciting because she grinds those wins out and makes for more exciting moments. Emma just destroys and demoralizes her opponents they just give up and they can't wait for the match to be over. Leylah was the only one to fight back against Emma but her gas tank was already on empty.

    • @distantthunder12ck55
      @distantthunder12ck55 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I don't think her tank was empty at all, she was just out thought on the court and had no answer. You're just down-playing Emma's achievement by saying that. It's like the other players who played Emma saying in their press conferences that they didn't play well. Nonsense! They were out smarted and had no answer.

    • @cammiesay4627
      @cammiesay4627 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@distantthunder12ck55 I love both Emma and Leylah. Emma really has an high IQ on court but I disagree with what you said that Leylah had no answer to Emma's game. Even Emma said it herself in her speech that she had to dig deeper to beat her knowing the kind of player Leylah is having beaten the remaining top 10 player going to the finals. So Emma had to elevate her game even higher to outmaneuver Leylah's momemtum. Tennis is a mind game, and Emma surely knows how to use it. Nevertheless both are exemplary in their own terms. I maybe watching women's tennis again because of them. This is one of the best finals I have ever watched. Both are simply amazing.

    On the first part of 2nd set, Kerber should be more cautious, the outcome could be different, and the end part of 2nd set, Kerber seemed used up her strength. Anyway, this match is close, like Kerber said, it's just one or two points to change the result.

    I still don't see Leylah, Coco or Emma being able to beat Barty or Halep because they really have such a versatile game very much like Kerber but those two are fitter, faster and are extremely composed in converting break points especially Barty.

    And... we will never know if that would have been the case if Emma wouldn't have taken sooo long to put on a band aid precisely when Leylah had the momentum to brake her and who knows take over the match just as she did against the 3 top players.
    🤔

    • @luiscota6262
      @luiscota6262 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That isn’t really a fair statement - it wasn’t Emma’s call to get a bandaid nor did she stall. The umpire is required by the rules to stop play whenever there is any bleeding wound.

    • @dec222
      @dec222 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Oh stop. There's enough drama without people like you making stuff up. It was an official timeout called by the chair umpire, and required due to the presence of blood, both on the court and on one of the players. It's not like Emma purposely skinned her knee, and she didn't even call the time out. She also didn't put on the band-aid; the trainer did.
      From section 3.f. of the ITF Grand Slam Rule Book:
      Bleeding
      If a player is bleeding, the Chair Umpire must stop play as soon as possible, and the Sports Physiotherapist must be called to the court by the Chair Umpire for evaluation and treatment. The Sports Physiotherapist, in conjunction with the Tournament Doctor if appropriate, will evaluate the source of the bleeding, and will request a Medical Time-Out for treatment if necessary.
      If requested by the Sports Physiotherapist and/or Tournament Doctor, the Referee in consultation with the Grand Slam Supervisor or Chair Umpire may allow up to a total of five (5) minutes to assure control of the bleeding.
      If blood has spilled onto the court or its immediate vicinity, play must not resume until the blood spill has been cleaned appropriately.
