Sublevel stoping:
Sublevel means a level intermediate between the two main levels. And extraction of ore body performed by sublevels are called sublevel stoping.
There are different variation of the method depending on the shape of the ore body. However, the method is based on the principle of blasting out large stopes, which are usually back-filled to maximize recovery of the ore body. The ore is detonated by drilling; large part of the ore body is removed from the stope as it is being detonated, leaving open stopes.
Ore body is access by incline or shaft or by both. The ore body can be divided in primary and secondary stopes. The primary stopes are mined first, while the secondary stopes are left as pillar until the adjacent primary stopes have been mined and back-filed. Stabilized fill in the primary stopes prevents sidewalls to cave in when secondary stopes are mined. The blasted ore is excavated by means of LHD and fed to the ore-pass which led the broken ore to underground crusher and then to the surface by conveyor /skip /underground dumper.
APPLICABILITY:
1. Ore strength: moderate to strong,
2. Rock strength (hang and foot-walls): fairly strong to strong
3. Deposit dip: fairly steep (more than 45deg, preferably 60-90deg)
4. Forms: tabular or lenticular, thick (6-30m) and extensive lengthwise.
5. Good uniformity of grades and thickness of ore.
6. Depth of deposit: moderate, preferably upto1.2km.
Advantages:
1. Workers work standing on solid ore.
2. Moderate to high productivity per man-shift.
3. Moderate cost of mining
4. Moderate to high production rate
5. Suitable for mechanization
6. Low exposure to unsafe condition
7. Possibility of simultaneous unit operations
8. Average recovery (75%); moderate dilution (up to 20%)
Disadvantages:
1. Slow, complex and costly development (through part is done in ore)
2. Non-selective method
3. Drilling long production requires careful alignment. (small deviation in the holes)
4. Great take-downs that can cause excessive vibration, displacement of air and structural damage.
