I learned two important lessons about camping a few decades ago when I first tried it: 1) If it is raining, do not touch the inside of your tent. It will draw the water through. 2) You can stake your tent out on the side of a hill or even at the top. However, if you place it into a depression on the hill or the top, you are going to get flooded out if it rains. Enjoy!
Merry Christmas Tori, enjoyed all your vids this year, it's been a testing year with Miss Nancy passing but she's with you all the time, i'm sure in spirit..x
Hiya, loving the wild camping vid..its the only way to camp.. haven't done it much but my favourite area this far was the Brecon beacons...words fail me in how good that was ❤️.. Brilliant vid again Tori 👍💚
Enjoyed your wild festive camping night in December. Talking of chestnuts you are nuts doing that in the middle of December in Uk. At least you didnt have rain or snow. Until the next vlog...
Anyone who can make camping in a wet muddy field in the middle of winter look like fun really does have a special talent ! I will admit there is something very enticing and primal about a real fire, though I fear that as soon as the flames died down I'd have been back in the car and on my way home to bed! Have a wonderful Christmas Tori and a very happy, healthy and rewarding New Year
😂 thank you! I certainly think after spending time in a wet muddy field it makes everything else look even better! Yeah the fire was amazing, although all my stuff smelt so awful afterwards I don’t think I’d want to do it again. Happy Christmas to you too 😊🎄
You are too adorable Victoria.. And the Ponies were cute too.. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and Santa brings you everything you wished for x Best wishes from Stu and Alf x
@missnancysdayoff There is nothing softer than a horses nose.. True fact 😊 I never liked riding them but I did like to see them. A few of my girl friends over the years had horses...
@@missnancysdayoffAlso I agree what you said about fire. There is always something very calming and relaxing watching a fire and the flames dancing.. Your very brave camping alone.. x And don't be scared of the date on the packet. Good advice, I'll be telling my daughter that when the Apocalypse happens and we are eating the food from all the cans I bought 😅
You need a ground sheet and the moisture on the walls of the tent is condensation, moisture from your breathing, the tent needs vents . Camping in cold foggy weather will always mean condensation inside the tent. Pack your outside stuff in the vestibule over night. Enjoy it and get ideas from people who like hiking. 🇦🇺
There's been a VAR Update panel, regarding the camping in Dec vlog :) For skills, in the field, building the tent, utilising the Powerstation & culinary skills implementing the stick blender, merits a black belt. Plus for bravery in "adversity" a Green Beret ! Well done Tori ❄❄❄ 🎄☃️🐿
Hope you had a great Christmas and have a very Happy New Year…….. Your bravery camping in December is nothing short of inspiring…. Great video .. Many thanks ..😊
Hi , I'm a motorcycle camper with a lot of camping experience on foot also. If you are thinking of a hike/camp I think you need to start again with all your kit. Winter camping you need a good R rated insulated mattress and maybe choose a down quilt instead of a bag or unzip the bag and turn it over as a quilt as I do. Your tent is too small and probably condensation is the issue there. Maybe a 3 season 2 person tent would be better. When choosing a winter tent looks for one with less mesh inside. Use a lightweight footprint or groundsheet under the tent and in the porch as that will cut down also on condensation. You don't really need the power station as there are plenty of low power rechargeable lights (flextail) around and use either a compact stove/pan arrangement like trangia or jetboil/OEX for your cooking. Also a decent packable down jacket and hood/booties will help with the cold. I sometimes use those stick on heat pads which last hours and heat up your bag. And I also have a lifesystems rechargeable pocket warmer which doubles up as a power bank. You should always have separate sleeping clothes as you may find your normal clothes get wet and then you won't want to sleep in damp clothes and freeze. There are some good camping sites that operate over winter and are normally deserted in the week for a quiet camp but still have the facilities if you need them. Hope this gives you some ideas anyway.
thanks for all these tips I really appreciate it! it definitely seems like i may need to give it some more thought not just make do with what i have. lots to think about 🙏☺️
Decent tents are waterproof. You can also get hot tents which you can buy a stove for (great for cold weather camping. Some of the water inside the tent may have been condensation.
“Am I ready to do a proper walking wild camp?” Er, no😂 A cold, damp night in a ropey tent in a creepy field. The Royal Marines on Dartmoor would’ve gone home🤣 Merry Christmas Tori❤️
Thanks for another fun video and you're certainly brave camping in December! Some of the water in the tent may have been condensation which may be hard to avoid, but if some was coming through the floor from the wet grass underneath you might want to see if you can get another layer to go under it and make it more waterproof - they're called tent footprints I think, although probably a suitably sized tarp would probably do the trick too. Hand warmers (electric or chemical) may help with keeping you toasty in your sleeping bag - and it's probably worth having a look at videos from wild campers, they often have kit list in the description and you might get some ideas from there (I know Ash Outdoors UK & WildBeare usually have kit lists in their videos).
Number one when camping is to have a good waterproof tent and groundsheet. Another first for you wild camping, I'll give you credit for doing that. Stay safe and have a good Christmas.
Hi Tori, Great you tried camping. :) With a better tent, mat and sleeping bag its nice camping. I think you did a good job first time round. It’s normal to help the mats if not brand new to get them harder. If the fly sheet touches the inner compartment then water will come in. Great fire pit. :)
Thank you I appreciate it 😊 the fire pit was cool, the person who owns the field leaves it there with some camping chairs etc and even dry wood for me it’s a nice set up!
Well Tori Thank you for sharing your adventure with us. As said In one or two of the comments Marino wool base layers are excellent we Tested out our ones around the Mount blanc area last April at -5 we were plenty warm. I do believe as a species we have become quite soft and need to get back to our prehistoric ancestors saying that we do love our Comfort 😂. All there is left to say at this point is have a very Merry Christmas you and your family❤. Best wishes from snowy Myself plus our new addition Xena will be putting up a couple of pictures on our channel quite soon .
-5 omg you guys are hard core! you’re totally right most of us are waaayyyy too soft 😅 ok you’ve inspired me I don’t want to be a marsh mallow i will try to channel my inner wild beare a bit more. thanks so much, have a fantastic Christmas and new year with SNowy, omg and Xena?! amazing ❤️❤️❤️
A silk sleeping bag liner is a good purchase as I used and still have the said liner. Expensive but worth the extra comfort. Plus a travel pillow or two and a little homework on your sleeping bag by buying from a good outdoor shop who can give you some great tips on purchasing the correct sleep system for you. Good luck and I hope it might help you.......
Eating just before getting into your sleeping bag(s) gets your body working and a hot drink helps too. I really enjoy your videos and a tip would be to upgrade your tent as I’m not sure it would stand up to windy and wet weather. Good luck when you go wild camping.
Hi tori , well i got cold just watching this ....for sure your 1 brave women to attempt camping in midwinter ...so i really do take my hat off to you . Whatever your doing and wherever you are i hope you have a lovely Christmas...and thank you for entertaining us followers with all that you've done this year ..Christmas for me is one of reflection after the loses i had , im guessing yours might be similar too tori ...take care always ...lee up in Wiltshire xxxx
Your right I guess it is only midwinter, I’ll have to try again if it snows 🥶 thank you so much, I hope you have a relaxing Christmas, yes I think mine is going to be quite like that it’s going to be quiet and as many walks as possible I think. Take care and merry Christmas xxx
Thanks for this vlog. Its quite refreshing at this time of year.🙂 I drained my van down when we had the frost 😅 I'm a bit sorry now. You've inspired me to have a Winter run. I went through the same canine loss as you, a couple of years ago. Just after a divorce and having to rent a new place with no fenced off garden, so rescues wouldn't even entertain me. 🙁😣 I found a 3 month old puppy ( Jess...in the photo) from an ad in UKClassifieds. She had been bought by a women in a flat, who decided she couldn't cope with her. Just a thought anyway. Please don't take rescue rules as a brick wall. My Jess loves my campervan. She sat in the front seat watching everything from Cheshire to Mid Wales last month! 😁 You obviously have so much love to give dogs. Have a lovely Christmas. 🙂
Hi Tori, really enjoyed your video today the field on the hill looked such a nice place to pitch, with the soft glow of Christmas lights, smoky fire and a touch of mist your camp looked magical, when we we’re talking about camping on your Widecombe in the Moor video I didn’t think you were meaning during winter, you’re a lot braver than me. after spending a night in the tent is winter tent camping an adventure you would like to explore more? Offroading the Yeti looked so much fun! I can’t offer any tips on winter tent camping because down here winter is most always more like your Spring! Walking your friends Greyhounds! 🐾❤ sounds like just the thing to lift the spirits after a cold nights camping 🤗 Thank you as always for a wonderful video ☺ Adrian from Victoria x
thank you! it did look nice with the fairy lights 😅 well I can say that in the immediate aftermath I thought wow now i appreciate how luxurious sleeping in the car is 🤭 but not long agfter that i was thikning about tent camping again becasue I’m not only a glutton for punishment, but i just really want to be able to do it! offroading the yeti was awesome and i need to do that more often 😍 yeah I’ve not seen the greyhounds for a few weeka now and i miss them, they really are just the thing to lift the spirits. it’s one of the things i miss so much about Miss Nancy, her just being there sleeping, being able to stroke her, it literally does make a person feel better. so glad you liked the video thank yoiu ☺️ x
@@missnancysdayoff really appreciate you saying that ☺sounds like maybe you’ve caught the ⛺ camping bug! what are some places you’re thinking about, what are some places you would really love to go tent camping as your skills soar? you're so right it truly does
I thought you did very well Tori. You made it hard for yourself going in winter though. But you kept your spirits up, which will get you through anything. Well done, and merry Christmas x
Oooh, goosedown sleeping bags can be expensive! But they definitely are worth it for the compression and warmth ... it has been a few decades since I looked at them - are they also significantly lighter, too, for a given 'warmth'? I guess 800 means it is a four season bag?
I realised it was worth paying a decent price for a decent quilt, mine was cumulus from Poland 450 fill in green so light. Have fun out there colder the better but cold and dry
Personally, I think cooking and cleaning before dusk makes camping easier. Dusk is also the best time to be out looking for wildlife. So I usually eat dinner/have a late lunch in mid to late afternoon, drink lots of fluid, clean up, get the campsite set up for sleeping, then go out to hike/watch wildlife at dusk. Have a bit of nuts, fruit available for a snack upon returning, if needed. This is especially helpful in bear country, but imo, the better option everywhere. Frees up the evening for various forms of outdoor/indoor entertainment without having to clean dishes and pack up everything in the dark when I’m tired.
Excellent. I love wild camping but I never get a good nights sleep. I just enjoy being out in nature when I can. Never taken a small power station with me though. Love soup, broccoli and spinach is usually my favourite to make and super easy. You might need a footprint for that tent but it still should be waterproof. It is a budget one though . Loads of quality tents on offer just now. Still looked like fun. Alpkit does good sleeping stuff including quilts for warmer climates. Are you planning on travelling far?
can anyone ever get a good nights sleep camping 🤭 yeah the power station was a treat wont be able to do that if i have a proper walk. ive never made broccoli soup sounds good! thank si will check those tents out, no i am was just testing things out at the moment before i planned something bigger
For what I learned it’s more important what’s underneath the sleeping bag and you should go inside the sleeping bag when warm and not fully dressed .. one trick to heat the tent is to push 4 hot stones when finished the fire ( if any around ) in each corner outside the tent , close but far enough for not burning the tent . I learned this from a friend and it was cosy . Worth to watch “ outdoor boys “ this guy camping in Alaska , sometimes alone , sometimes with his wife and kids .. lots to learn .. have a good Christmas:)
Less is more tori ( in camping anyway) the animals picked up on the saggy comment and said...saggy? Has she seen us! 😂 thanks for the vids this year, all be great, keep doing what you do and happy a merry christmas ❤
Your tent's groundsheet and outer should absolutely be waterproof. The water might just be condensation of warm air inside it from the car journey as the tent itself cools quickly in that low temperature outside, helped along by you breathing and your body heat as you put your stuff in. They can degrade if not stored properly for long periods but that's still pretty rare unless they're super cheap.
hmm, i guess i don;t have enough tent experience to know, i don’t think. it’s an expensive tent though and i have had it in my car/van for a couple of years so it’s been pretty cold at times and roasting at others! the tent was confusing 🫤 i was very glad it didn’t pour though put it that way 😅
@@missnancysdayoff At the end of the day you're still with us so I think you're in fine shape to continue camping. 😅In cold conditions the condensation can be quite a lot once you're in there. Warm air condenses on the inside of the outer sheet and is supposed to run down that onto the ground but if the inner and outer are touching anywhere then it'll come through and run down to where you sleep. It should have been fine though but could have happened if you didn't peg it out quite taut enough which is sometimes an issue with those small tents with a toe box because they're a bit of a funny shape.
Thank you for taking the time for a lovely reply …I really think you are very talented in how how you create your videos … the filming, editing, the sound tracks and especially your presentation style … I think you should explore ways into a profession with a production company that produces programs for BBC and ITV … no idea what the way in is but you have films you can send them !!!! Just an idea but I really believe this !!! 😊
During my last camping trip at this time of year, there was a foot of snow, and a river was approximately 15 feet away from the tent. I remember the sound of the rapids provided a soothing night's sleep. Thanks for sharing your camping adventure with us 🙂 Merry Christmas to you from Canada!! 🐻
It’s not exactly getting back to basics but I love your style 😅👌 great video Tori! Good on you for getting out there and doing something to get out of your comfort zone! Bravo 🤩👍
You need to spend a bit more if you are going in for wild camping. Vango, Berghaus, OEX and Naturehike all make good tents for a reasonable price. Seams are porous due to the stitch holes, so manufacturers like these often tape them. Thanks for an enjoyable video.
Full camper now! I can remember your video when you first bought a camping stove soyou could have a hot drink after wild swimming. Your mobile homes get smaller and smaller, you will soon end up with a sleeping bag a tarpaulin sheet and a length of stout string!
i know! not sure ill ever be a proper camper but its fun to try. i love that little stove. ha yeah true but im not sure im going to make it that far, could be time to start increasing the size again!
Not sure if you went for a walk followed by a wild camp out, you would be able to have the power station and cooking hob etc with you. Unless you were strong and fancied carrying it on your back in a rucksack.
That looked like fun - you did great! Hand and foot warmers (don’t know if you have them in the UK, but they’re essential here in Canada), and a hot water bottle would help make for a warmer time, especially at night.
"Tori" you are absolutely bonkers 🤣😂😅 🙉 jeez I'm here laughing my head off, that horse farting had me in fits of giggles 🙃🤦 wishing you a very merry Christmas,,enjoy from Cornwall 🫡🇬🇧
A good test for you, thankfully it stayed dry!. I'm the same with the larger sleeping bag much more comfortable. Those lovely chestnuts, it's probably about 2022 since I was able to get them last😂, the fresh ones in the supermarket are normally not worth the bother! I hope you have a Great Christmas Tori and have a nice cosy place to stay and enjoy your mulled wine.❤🤗
i was so glad it didn’t rain 😅 a big sleeping bag sounds very pleasant! ha that’s because i ahve all the old chestnuts in my cupboard 😅 thank you i am cosy house sitting over Christmas, have a lovely festive season! 🤗❤️🎄
Another interesting adventure. It's worth getting a bit more practice before wild camping, just so you feel comfortable with your kit.Great fun watching you.
Yes, yes, yes. You’ve done the hardest thing; the first go. Lots of comments / tips but I’ll save those ……… Good lightweight kit can be pricey but there are forums that can get you equipped at sensible costs - just need to know what you really need and understand what you’re buying. Everything is SOOOoo easy when you know the answers. My tents are all 100% waterproof & my winter tent is capable of handling severe storms / snow / wind etc and actually warms up a little. My long and wide mattress is fully insulated, weighs under 600gms whilst my quilt is super cosy and is comfort rated for -12°c. The electric pump for my mattress weighs 25gms and is about 2/3rds the size of a tube of smarties. I sleep in merino wool PJ’s, toes to head, in the winter. My whole kit is toasty warm and same goes for Rudi’s. I got a couple of good photos of him inside his sleep system. I carry everything in a 45 litre rucksack that holds all I need for up to a week including cooking decent home made evening meals, hot breakfasts and hot drinks. My bag is not heavy either - typically 12kg in winter with my extra clothing. Currently just come down from Rhinog Fawr after three days and two nights hiking and will car camp this night before heading home in the morning. Food tonight: Stuffed giant mushrooms (cheese, onion, garlic etc) before a veg / potato casserole followed by rhubarb crumble and custard. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video and you can be super pleased with yourself - you did absolutely brilliantly for your first time. 🎉
that absolutely cracked me up and i think sums up this whole outdoor gear thing, sooooo easy when you know the answers 😅 hmm i am suspicious of my tent now although i dare say it’s my fault for neglecting it for years.i’m reading that list of the stuff you have and thinking wow. you’ve defiantly got all the gear. even so i don’t know how you fit it all in a tiny bag and it still lays less than 12kg and you eat three course dinners! i bow down to you and i am ready to be trained 😅 thank you i am glad you think so ☺️
@ I’ll trade you - vid making tips in exchange 😂 The wonder of the mountains (although the sea might well pip them) ……. Hard to adequately describe. Wild water swimming - OMG, the best - my eyeballs are always scanning for wild water dip pools big enough & preferably out of the wind - and I usually do find something. Waking up to snow is off the gasp out loud scale. I’ll be back to Wales next week as it is supposed to snow.
Well done for surviving your first wild camping experience. Rather you than me. I prefer more home comforts now. Great vlog though. Hope you have a great Christmas, Tori. Thanks for posting.
Hey Tori! Great video, looked like a fun adventure, but that pesky carrot was trying to escape quite clearly and what was with the spread pinging about (laughed out loud!) and the less said about the pony the better! 😂 I think you’re ready for some walking/camping adventure action! Would be great fun. Hope you’re having a great weekend and are looking forward to Christmas 🎄 Friday the 13th? outrageous whoever mentioned that to you 😱 xx ❤
I’ve no idea what was going on with my cooking 😂 ghosts?! Thanks, I am going to try to plan something anyway I have to try it at least once! Thanks you have a great weekend too, I know I was glad to get through the night after having those sinister thoughts out in my head 😮 xx
@@missnancysdayoff ghost carrot 🥕 I think there’s a cartoon in that! Yes I think the camping adventure will definitely be good fun! Glad you got through the night ok and nothing too sinister happened xx
Hi Tori , love your set up 😊 . Your power pack is a great idea and i never relax until i get a fire on and a brew and chair out and look at the stars and also watching the flames is very relazing 🙂🔥. Defo use both sleeping bags inside one another can help. As always love your videos 🐾🥰
@missnancysdayoff ... Merŕy Christmas to you 🎄🎁😊 and i hope 2025 brings you more joy and happiness 😊. Might bump into you next year as I'm planning on a weeks trip down south , Wales , Devon etc . 🎄🎁🥰🐾
Wow ,I’m someone who struggles with anxiety and I can travel all over the world etc on my own but I have days I’m worried about everything and just stay in bed . I think you are really brave because you where so apreventative about your camping night out and all the survival nerds will tell you that you did it wrong ,well you didn’t,you survived and more importantly did something out of your comfort zone 😊Happy Christmas 🎄 and I wish all the luck and good health for the new year 🎉❤
it’s a strange thing the way anxiety can effect us, and it’s not easy, sounds like you manage pretty amazingly though 🤗 thanks so much I really appreciate that ☺️ Happy Christmas to you too and a beautiful new year 🎄✨
The bottom of the tent should be waterproof!? You can get tent footprints but there more for adding a bit of protection to the bottom of your tent and keeping it clean so it’s not in the mud!
I'm a wild camper based in Snowdonia, sleep systems make a huge difference, the lots of layers approach you used works as long as you have enough layers but it's uncomfortable, heavy to carry, inefficient, a faff and very awkward, the best system is a correctly rated mat and just one sleeping bag and to wear just thin merino wool base layers inside, if the mat and bag are rated correctly for the conditions then you'll be nice and warm and cosy all night, basically the warmest way to sleep in a bag is naked but then you need to wash your bag which is a faff so the merino base layers are just to keep your bag clean. Also remember on a proper wild camp carrying that power station will probably be too much as most decent wild camping spots require a bit of a walk, and it's best practice to never light a campfire when wild camping as most areas don't allow them, obviously yours is ok here as you're on private land, but in Snowdonia for example campfires aren't allowed, they only allow small gas/alcohol camp stoves unless you're on a campsite. Basically this camp you just did is perfect for trying things out, and proper winter conditions in the depths of Jan/Feb can be much colder, I camp down to around -15c around here in the mountains and that takes a little working up to, if your bags are 20 years old they probably need updating anyway as they lose their efficiency over time, being cold can be really off putting, but having the right gear makes a HUGE difference, well done though, hope to see you doing some more wild camping in the future, it's really is a wonderful experience, especially up in the mountains where I think it's really magical, and I find the more remote my wild camp spot the more relaxed I am.
snowdonia is s beautiful you’re lucky what an area to live in. i think the words uncomfortable, faff and awkward definitely sum up how i felt 😅 i think i might look into sleeping bags agin, camping gear is just ridiculously expensive and it’s hard to part with the moment unless i know im going to get a lot of use out of it! omg yes the power station will not be coming with me if i try to go wild, i think I’ll try to take as little as possible i am sure the weight of my pack will come as a horrible shock anyway 🫢 that’s sounds fair and I’ve got a little camping stove. wow you must have all the gear if you can do it in those temperatures, it must be amazing though i have this dream of waking up and sticking my head out into the snow, I’m sure it’s an entirely romanticised views of things because my expensive re this time was fun yes but also a faff! thank you, I have to persevere and at least try proper wild camping and i am glad i had a practice first, i think ill feel better more remote too ☺️
@@missnancysdayoff I first really got into wild camping around this time of year and used the January sales to get some incredible bargains, got a bag 1/3 of the normal price etc. then waited for the spring until I really got stuck into it as it's really not fun camping in the cold when you're inexperienced, but I found after doing lots of wild camps in good weather it made me much more confident in cooler conditions, just knowing what you're doing and what to expect helps an awful lot.
Hi I've just found your channel,I regret not finding it sooner, just watched your Windermere video,(where the vegan cafe was closed) I love the Lake District I'll try to find time to watch more of your Fab videos best wishes Andrew.
hi Andrew! thanks so much I am really glad you found the Channel. I loved being in the Lake District can’t wait to go back. Have a fantastic Christmas 🎄
@missnancysdayoff hi are you still using the Yeti ? As I see one of your latest videos is in a tent, I gather from others comments you lost your dog,I am so sorry,my dog is my life,my best friend,he has helped me through an awlful year, non dog people have no idea what they mean to us,wishing you a great Christmas, I'll try to get up to date with your videos, take care 😀
I go hammock camping in my local woods.I love it but in winter i prefer hot tenting. If i do non hot tenting i usually put a tarp over the top to protect the tent if its not waterproof 👍My advice is always check the temperature rating on your sleeping bag. I would say if you are hiking tenting use one that requires hiking poles to erect the tent. You can also buy small heaters to keep you warm.Good luck in your future hiking adventures 👍
Thanks for the wisdom that all sounds good! Hammock camping sounds interesting I have never actually slept in a. Hammock I wonder how easy it is 🤔 thanks ☺️
@ No problem.Happy to help. I have the Haven layflat because i can’t get on with the banana shaped hammocks and the Haven can also be used as a ground tent too if there are no trees to hang it on.😊
This has whet my appetite to do the same! I've camped in similar conditions but a long time ago .... I wonder if I could cope in snow and ice? (British levels only) Mud doesn't worry me, but what if my camping spot became squelchy during the night because of heavy rain? I need to test myself again.
My advice would be to get a wheelbarrow with all that clobber 😂 You’re just starting out, so things will improve as you learn how to camp lighter. So long as you’re having fun, that’s all that matters. Happy Christmas
If the outer skin of your tent is touching the inner it could leak. A lot of people use a ground sheets under the tent. Breathing in your sleeping bag isn't a good idea as it dampens the down. If you're carrying all your gear I'd recommend lightening your load or it won't be pleasant. Happy camping and happy Xmas
There were these plastic strips flapping everywhere getting covered in mud and when I was packing it up I realised they were peeling g off the seams 😂 I think a new sleeping bag may be in order; thank you I’m going to try and persevere!

So anyway gorgeous, I wish you a Christmas filled with family and love and anything else you could hope for. Love you girl. Be well, happy and safe please. Wolfie
I don’t know the details of your sleeping bag setup. But putting one inside the other and piling on too many layers of clothing is often counterproductive. We stay warm when we stay dry and trap warm air space upon our bodies. Good sleeping bags have loft which allow for lots of warm air space to surround our bodies. Putting one bag inside the other might have compressed the bags’ loft, reducing the warm air space. It might have been more helpful to open up the second bag and lay it across the first bag like a blanket. And when layering clothes, be sure to allow for puffiness instead of compression.
Good for you for getting out there and doing it, love a fire, glad you get it. Please don't go hiking out wild camping on your own with that set up just yet, there's lots not right but its a learning curve and takes a bit of practice. But you are capable of anything .. i don't normally bollock people so i won't but if i gave you a knife to use it would be a plastic one as i quite like to see fingers on your hands. Gordon Ramsey on the other hand ... probably would have broken his most swear words in a minute record 🤣. I go out a fair bit and have loads of different tents and set ups and just like you i'm a tight git, so its mostly affordable on a low budget. Offer is there if you want to trust some strange weirdo from your youtube comments. P.s. That person who watches from the sidelines ... thats not you, well done 😁👍✌️🤘❤️❤️❤️
thanks! i think you’re right it need a bit more work especially this time of year i really didn’t feel too cosy 🙏 a plastic knife 😅 don’t ;et me anywhere near an overn either i can’t see one without burning myself. haha true i was just so taken aback by the whole butter incident i didn’t even swear at all! oh I’m always glad for advice from people who have a clue because in this case I definitely don’t so thank you ☺️❤️✌️
@@missnancysdayoff i'll be honest i've been in some grim situations in ridiculous weather but not through choice, you need to feel comfortable and confident when camping out in the elements and everyone is different with that, you just need to find out what suits you so you can enjoy the outdoors on your terms, you'll pick up the skills quick enough you've obviously got the mindset for it. Always love to see anyone stepping outside their confort zone to experience something different. Merry Christmas Victoria 🙏👍✌️🤘❤️❤️❤️
Really enjoyed watching your video. Your Sea to Summit mat isn't really rated for winter use, with an 'R' rating of 4.3 (6 or 7 minimum would be better). I know its tempting but breathing into your sleeping bag isn't a great idea since it introduces dampness. How about a mini heat pad, mains(Bluetti) powered, around 40Watts for warming your sleeping bag.If limited by the amount of power, l cook on gas/ meths/twig fire rather than the very power hungry induction hob. Anyway, have a great Christmas.
thank you! ☺️ i think your right, i bought it in the summer but as i didn’t use it all summer there is no way i can buy another one for the winter 😅 maybe i will have to avoid super colds nights even though i dream of camping in the snow. i didn’t know you weren’t supposed to breath into the bag! heat pad sounds lush, your right i was treating myself with the induction hob, if i take it wilder it’s going to be a my little camping stove. have a great Christmas too 🎄✨
@@missnancysdayoff Although I haven't tried it myself, some of my fellow wild campers suppliment their air mats with an additional mat underneath, just to help reflect their body heat back. The extra mat is full length (6ft), maybe 2ft6 wide and maybe 3mm thick but silvered on one (maybe both) sides and cheap.
Are you sure the groundsheet was actually letting water through. Usually, it looks like it is but its just the fabric 'wetting out'. If there's a hole or cut in the groundsheet, a cheap shower curtain underneath the g'sheet can help.@@missnancysdayoff
@missnancysdayoff hope your doing well loved the camping experience dome well jayjay tent vs Nancy's tent to tent to lay out sound like a plan for 2025 tori x
Wow, you had a lot of kit with you! No way to hike and wild camp with all that. You would need to downsize and collect small and light weight kit for survival rather than luxury!
😅 i know that was just treating myself while i tested out the sleeping gear, il take as little as possible if I go walk! packing for survival sounds brutal though
I learned two important lessons about camping a few decades ago when I first tried it:
1) If it is raining, do not touch the inside of your tent. It will draw the water through.
2) You can stake your tent out on the side of a hill or even at the top. However, if you place it into a depression on the hill or the top, you are going to get flooded out if it rains.
Enjoy!
these are good lessons thank you! ☺️
Merry Christmas Tori, enjoyed all your vids this year, it's been a testing year with Miss Nancy passing but she's with you all the time, i'm sure in spirit..x
Merry Christmas to you too 🎄 yeah it has been a bit of a year, I still think of my dear girl all the time ❤️ x
Hiya, loving the wild camping vid..its the only way to camp.. haven't done it much but my favourite area this far was the Brecon beacons...words fail me in how good that was ❤️.. Brilliant vid again Tori 👍💚
The British sense of humor is second to none 💛 Happy winter solstice, more daylight everyday!
always! yes we are on the up woohoo! 🙌
Enjoyed your wild festive camping night in December. Talking of chestnuts you are nuts doing that in the middle of December in Uk. At least you didnt have rain or snow. Until the next vlog...
Merry Christmas Tori! Thank you for your courage and positivity. Festive hugs x
merry Christmas to you too! thank you 🤗 x
My heart is warmed once again young lady, big fan and you do Christmas your way, much love and respect ❤.
thank you ☺️ have a fantastic Christmas and thanks for watching all year, and last year too! ❤️
Happy Christmas to you too 😊🎄
This was a Great Camp! You are the most Technologically Advanced Wild Camper that I have ever seen! Merry Christmas!
thank you! haha yeah not sure we can call it wild camping as such 😅 Merry Christmas to you too 🎄
You are too adorable Victoria.. And the Ponies were cute too.. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and Santa brings you everything you wished for x
Best wishes from Stu and Alf x
why thank you ☺️ they were very cute ponies, thank you so much, I hope you have a lovely Christmas too thanks for all the support this year x 🎄❄️
Your very brave camping alone.. x
And don't be scared of the date on the packet.
thank you! ☺️ some many great tips 🙏
There's been a VAR Update panel, regarding the camping in Dec vlog :)
For skills, in the field, building the tent, utilising the Powerstation & culinary skills implementing the stick blender, merits a black belt.
Plus for bravery in "adversity" a Green Beret ! Well done Tori

😮😮😮 yippppeeeeeeeee! that makes me feel really good 😅😅 thank you ☺️❄️🎄⛺️
Hope you had a great Christmas and have a very Happy New Year…….. Your bravery camping in December is nothing short of inspiring…. Great video .. Many thanks ..😊
happy New Year to you too! so glad you liked the video ☺️
Hope this gives you some ideas anyway.
thanks for all these tips I really appreciate it! it definitely seems like i may need to give it some more thought not just make do with what i have. lots to think about 🙏☺️
Your smile could light up an entire room...
🤗
Decent tents are waterproof. You can also get hot tents which you can buy a stove for (great for cold weather camping. Some of the water inside the tent may have been condensation.
thanks! these hot tents sound cool
“Am I ready to do a proper walking wild camp?” Er, no😂
A cold, damp night in a ropey tent in a creepy field. The Royal Marines on Dartmoor would’ve gone home🤣
Merry Christmas Tori❤️
😂😂😂 too funny, Merry Christmas to you too! ❤️
Hand warmers (electric or chemical) may help with keeping you toasty in your sleeping bag - and it's probably worth having a look at videos from wild campers, they often have kit list in the description and you might get some ideas from there (I know Ash Outdoors UK & WildBeare usually have kit lists in their videos).
thanks for the tips! I will check those guys out for the kit lists ☺️
Number one when camping is to have a good waterproof tent and groundsheet. Another first for you wild camping, I'll give you credit for doing that. Stay safe and have a good Christmas.
thank you! I’m going to look at those things again i think, have a lovely Christmas too 🎄
Hi Tori,
Great you tried camping.
Would love to see more wild camping videos maybe when the weather gets little warmer and also with your campervan if possible 😉.
Happy holidays 🎉❤
thanks! now if i bring my van I’ll be nic and comfy too 🤭 Happy Holidays to you too! 🎄❤️
Also a decent bivvy bag can double up as a waterproof sleeping bag cover.
The bags are pricey but some are waterproof.
thanks for the tips 🤗
@@missnancysdayoff My pleasure and I hope it will make your camping more comfortable.
Eating just before getting into your sleeping bag(s) gets your body working and a hot drink helps too. I really enjoy your videos and a tip would be to upgrade your tent as I’m not sure it would stand up to windy and wet weather. Good luck when you go wild camping.
thank you that sounds like a good plan. so glad you like the videos, i think your right i am going to have another little look at my equipment! 🙏
@ you know Dartmoor and the weather can be challenging.
Its quite refreshing at this time of year.🙂
I drained my van down when we had the frost 😅
I'm a bit sorry now. You've inspired me to have a Winter run.
I went through the same canine loss as you, a couple of years ago. Just after a divorce and having to rent a new place with no fenced off garden, so rescues wouldn't even entertain me. 🙁😣
I found a 3 month old puppy ( Jess...in the photo) from an ad in UKClassifieds. She had been bought by a women in a flat, who decided she couldn't cope with her.
Just a thought anyway.
Please don't take rescue rules as a brick wall.
My Jess loves my campervan. She sat in the front seat watching everything from Cheshire to Mid Wales last month! 😁
You obviously have so much love to give dogs.
Well done, and merry Christmas x
thank you ☺️ I may never get beyond being a useless novice but i tried, have a lovely Christmas too x🎄
I want to hike there one day ♥
You are a brave little soul take care Tori another cute and heart warming watch thank you. More wrappings to keep warm.
thank you ☺️
Buy a 4 season tent go out doors are good, and a decent 800 goose filled sleeping bag or quilt,
Oooh, goosedown sleeping bags can be expensive! But they definitely are worth it for the compression and warmth ... it has been a few decades since I looked at them - are they also significantly lighter, too, for a given 'warmth'? I guess 800 means it is a four season bag?
thanks for the tips! i don’t do goose down myself but i know there’s loads of non animal options too 🤗
I realised it was worth paying a decent price for a decent quilt, mine was cumulus from Poland 450 fill in green so light.
Have fun out there colder the better but cold and dry
Awh bless you sweetheart. Stay happy and safe
thank you ☺️
Personally, I think cooking and cleaning before dusk makes camping easier. Frees up the evening for various forms of outdoor/indoor entertainment without having to clean dishes and pack up everything in the dark when I’m tired.
that sounds like a much better idea than what i did. i was really hoping to do something more like that but it got dark so fast, poor planning!
Great post.Loved watching you get to grips with the equipment. Think how good it will be once you add a little sun and warmth.
thank you! that sounds good 😅
Worth to watch “ outdoor boys “ this guy camping in Alaska , sometimes alone , sometimes with his wife and kids .. lots to learn .. have a good Christmas:)
that’s a great idea as long as the stone don’t get too close! i will check outdoor boys sounds great 🙏
Less is more tori ( in camping anyway) the animals picked up on the saggy comment and said...saggy? Has she seen us! 😂 thanks for the vids this year, all be great, keep doing what you do and happy a merry christmas ❤
thanks so much i will check those brands out! ☺️ glad you liked the video
Another wonderful adventure Tori. Well done you!! Have a lovely Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year ❤️

Merry Christmas Tori , that's the first time I've said that this year, stay safe & stay blessed.
Merry Christmas to you too 😊 thank you have a lovely time next week
During my last camping trip at this time of year, there was a foot of snow, and a river was approximately 15 feet away from the tent. I remember the sound of the rapids provided a soothing night's sleep. Thanks for sharing your camping adventure with us 🙂
Merry Christmas to you from Canada!! 🐻
wow that sounds absolutely amazing! that’s the winter camping dream. sounds of the rapids sounds dreamy. Merry Christmas Canada! 🍁☺️
It’s not exactly getting back to basics but I love your style 😅👌 great video Tori! Good on you for getting out there and doing something to get out of your comfort zone! Bravo 🤩👍
no I’ll get back to basics next time 😅 thanks so much I’m glad you liked it! 😍
You need to spend a bit more if you are going in for wild camping. Vango, Berghaus, OEX and Naturehike all make good tents for a reasonable price. Seams are porous due to the stitch holes, so manufacturers like these often tape them. Thanks for an enjoyable video.
thanks so much for these brands i will check them out! glad you enjoyed the video ☺️
Unless you were strong and fancied carrying it on your back in a rucksack.
it would certainly be a good test of my endurance 😅
That butter 😂
Merry Christmas and happy new year hope you have a good one 😊 🥂 🍻
It was cursed 😂 thank you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too 🎄

Hand and foot warmers (don’t know if you have them in the UK, but they’re essential here in Canada), and a hot water bottle would help make for a warmer time, especially at night.
Thank you! Hmm they sounds pretty nice I will have a look, hot water bottle is a great call and so simple!

Thank you 😊 that’s is absolutely true, I kept thinking that then I also felt for Miss Nancys sale maybe she would have preferred not to be there 🙈♥️
Yes she definitely liked her comfort
Yes, yes, yes. You’ve done the hardest thing; the first go.
Lots of comments / tips but I’ll save those ………
Good lightweight kit can be pricey but there are forums that can get you equipped at sensible costs - just need to know what you really need and understand what you’re buying.
that absolutely cracked me up and i think sums up this whole outdoor gear thing, sooooo easy when you know the answers 😅
hmm i am suspicious of my tent now although i dare say it’s my fault for neglecting it for years.i’m reading that list of the stuff you have and thinking wow. you’ve defiantly got all the gear. even so i don’t know how you fit it all in a tiny bag and it still lays less than 12kg and you eat three course dinners! i bow down to you and i am ready to be trained 😅 thank you i am glad you think so ☺️
@ I’ll trade you - vid making tips in exchange 😂
The wonder of the mountains (although the sea might well pip them) …….
Thanks for posting.
well slightly wild anyway. home comforts are….quite delightful. have a great Christmas too ☺️

Nice camping...
☺️
The bottom of the tent should be waterproof!? You can get tent footprints but there more for adding a bit of protection to the bottom of your tent and keeping it clean so it’s not in the mud!
🤭 it was definitely muddy
Basically this camp you just did is perfect for trying things out, and proper winter conditions in the depths of Jan/Feb can be much colder, I camp down to around -15c around here in the mountains and that takes a little working up to, if your bags are 20 years old they probably need updating anyway as they lose their efficiency over time, being cold can be really off putting, but having the right gear makes a HUGE difference, well done though, hope to see you doing some more wild camping in the future, it's really is a wonderful experience, especially up in the mountains where I think it's really magical, and I find the more remote my wild camp spot the more relaxed I am.
snowdonia is s beautiful you’re lucky what an area to live in. i think the words uncomfortable, faff and awkward definitely sum up how i felt 😅 i think i might look into sleeping bags agin, camping gear is just ridiculously expensive and it’s hard to part with the moment unless i know im going to get a lot of use out of it! omg yes the power station will not be coming with me if i try to go wild, i think I’ll try to take as little as possible i am sure the weight of my pack will come as a horrible shock anyway 🫢 that’s sounds fair and I’ve got a little camping stove. wow you must have all the gear if you can do it in those temperatures, it must be amazing though i have this dream of waking up and sticking my head out into the snow, I’m sure it’s an entirely romanticised views of things because my expensive re this time was fun yes but also a faff! thank you, I have to persevere and at least try proper wild camping and i am glad i had a practice first, i think ill feel better more remote too ☺️
Yup …… 👍
@@missnancysdayoff I first really got into wild camping around this time of year and used the January sales to get some incredible bargains, got a bag 1/3 of the normal price etc. then waited for the spring until I really got stuck into it as it's really not fun camping in the cold when you're inexperienced, but I found after doing lots of wild camps in good weather it made me much more confident in cooler conditions, just knowing what you're doing and what to expect helps an awful lot.

@@missnancysdayoff I would too, but am teetotal right now.
Hi,have see the adverts for the 3 second tent, ment to take 3 secs to set up ? Looks like you just pull it up from the top and its done. 😊
no way this sounds amazing! i wonder if even i could do it in three seconds 😅
@@missnancysdayoff And 2 hours to pack away, avoid like the plague.
Merry Christmas, Tori! Thanks for a year of terrific videos. Will there be any footage of you with your friend's greyhounds?
Merry Christmas! I did make a couple of shorts of them recently 😊🐾
I have the Haven layflat because i can’t get on with the banana shaped hammocks and the Haven can also be used as a ground tent too if there are no trees to hang it on.😊
The first time i experienced claustrophobia was in a tent that size. 10'c is my bottom limit temp wise. 😅.
😂 it’s so small in there! I can understand why, we will have to see if I can push on and try again!
Buon Natale Tory, non prendere troppo freddo🎉😊
Merry Christmas! 🎄 thank you ☺️
This has whet my appetite to do the same! I've camped in similar conditions but a long time ago .... I wonder if I could cope in snow and ice? (British levels only) Mud doesn't worry me, but what if my camping spot became squelchy during the night because of heavy rain? I need to test myself again.
i am sure you can do it! im very impressed with everyone who is camping all the time its hard work 😅
11:18 the most entertaining shot :)
😅
another ggreat vid tori
Thank you ☺️
Merry Christmas you crazy loon! X
merry Christmas to you too! x
I think your butter was magnetic! 🤣
Omg it was dark magic 😂
the lights... i'm dying.
🙈🎄
My advice would be to get a wheelbarrow with all that clobber 😂 You’re just starting out, so things will improve as you learn how to camp lighter. So long as you’re having fun, that’s all that matters. Happy Christmas
😂 so true. thank you, have a very Merry Christmas! 🎅
Looks amazing just stay safe
Thank you, I will 🤗
I still don't know where to.go yet 😕
BRILLIANT 👌
thank you! ☺️
@missnancysdayoff You're so incredibly welcome 🙏 x
If the outer skin of your tent is touching the inner it could leak. A lot of people use a ground sheets under the tent. Breathing in your sleeping bag isn't a good idea as it dampens the down. If you're carrying all your gear I'd recommend lightening your load or it won't be pleasant. Happy camping and happy Xmas
i think it was because it saggy 🤭 thanks for the tips i appreciate it! Merry Christmas 🎄
Happy christmas Tori x
Happy Christmas to you too! X
Some tents need seam sealing Tori, and make sure your sleeping bag is a 4 session one. Great effort, and the more you do the better it'll be.. 😀
There were these plastic strips flapping everywhere getting covered in mud and when I was packing it up I realised they were peeling g off the seams 😂 I think a new sleeping bag may be in order; thank you I’m going to try and persevere!
@missnancysdayoff Keep it up Tori, and I hope you have a peaceful and blessed Christmas 🎄
Were those plastic strips coming off the inside seams of the tent flysheet ?@@missnancysdayoff
That power bank is serving you well
It really is who knew it would make my fairy light dreams come true 😂
Well done Tori, Bear Grylls "Yellow Belt" qualification ticked off ! Won't be too long before you're wild camping the Dolomites.
Shortest Day this Saturday, then the daylight hours start lengthening again !
Love the Fairylights
You bring us joy so karma will take care of joy reciprocating in your direction :)
Quite reflection time and thoughts are always going to include Miss "Claudia" Nancy
Thanks for the vlog
Have a amazing day amazing Tori

🎄 ☃️ 🐿
Thanks you! 😂 ha yea perhaps, half way there! I am looking forward to the days getting longer again now it’s been going on for far too long. I’m glad I was very taken with them, thank you 😊 have a great weekend 🎄🤗 ❄️
Hi Tori... Well done you for wild camping 🏕️🙏... Do you watch 'wild bear'... Claire is a real tough wild camper and has lots of experience in equipment for wild camping.. It might be useful and she is just amazing to watch.. like yourself 🙏💖🥰😘
Sorry its 'wild beare' 👍
hello, thank you! ☺️ I have seen som,e WIld Beare she is brilliant, crazy too I don’t think i could ever be that hard core but it’s amazing inspiration! i should definitely try and get some tips from her 🥰🤗
Nice paddock boots!! That brand are?
thanks! vegan blundstones 🐕
Tori, you will never age. If there's a female Peter Pan, I think I've found you!!! If I haven't said it before... If I'm lucky enough to. meet you, you're doing lunch! That food actually looks and sounds well nice. Who knows? If I can flat, give up booze.... I wonder.
Still loving the smile and the humour survives yet! So anyway gorgeous, I wish you a Christmas filled with family and love and anything else you could hope for.
Love you girl. Be well, happy and safe please. Wolfie
😂 Peter Pan oh dear sounds about right! I’m glad you liked it try making the soup!Hope you have a great Christmas too ♥️🎄
I don’t know the details of your sleeping bag setup. And when layering clothes, be sure to allow for puffiness instead of compression.
thank you this is really interesting! i certainly felt compressed with everything i had on 😱
❤
Tori have you met Karen from Karen’s Gone Wild Channel? She does a lot of wild camping around Dartmoor? Just wondered. Hope you have a lovely 2025 x
A good try but you definitely need a proper sleeping bag that's minus rated & you were lucky it wasn't colder or snowed 🥶🥶
really lucky, it was quite cold enough 🥶 😅
Having a real fire is charming, out in the open, maybe a couple of water bottles would keep you warm .
hot water bottle is a. great idea that would have been lovely ☺️
Hope you have a lovely Christmas , looking forward to your next video.
You won't have a power station on a walking camp.......a better tent as shouldn't let water through the bottom ..good to test like your doing 😁
i know it will be back to brutal basics 😅 thank you 🤩
Good for you for getting out there and doing it, love a fire, glad you get it.
P.s. it wasn't the butter that worried me .. look where your fingers are chopping carrots 🫣❤️
Where is the snow?
i wish but none!
@@missnancysdayoff It can vary a lot from year to year.
Should have read 'how about cooking on gas/meths ' etc
Sorry
Hi my beautiful ❤❤❤
Hello 😊 ❤️
@missnancysdayoff hope your doing well loved the camping experience dome well jayjay tent vs Nancy's tent to tent to lay out sound like a plan for 2025 tori x
Wow, you had a lot of kit with you! No way to hike and wild camp with all that. You would need to downsize and collect small and light weight kit for survival rather than luxury!
😅 i know that was just treating myself while i tested out the sleeping gear, il take as little as possible if I go walk! packing for survival sounds brutal though
You should have backed that horse up to the opening of the tent. That would have kept you warm!!
😂😂😂 backed it up, why didn’t I think of that?!
