  • How to Calculate size of Earting Conductor and Earthing Electrodes? // Earthing Calculation.
    There are mainly 4 types of Earthing Systems in India, Plate Earthing, Pipe Earthing, Mat Earthing, and Rod Earthing.
    Pipe earthing is one of the popular earthing systems in India that suits every soil type. Earthing in large-scale residential, as well as commercial areas, prevents mishappenings on account of electrical shock. It protects your building and the electric boxes that are home to different types of electrical wires or cables.
    Pipe earthing is joining a steel pipe with the earth’s electrical conductors. An Iron and steel pipe can transfer fault currents in electrical systems efficiently.
    Earthing involves discharging electricity to the earth via low resistance electrical cables to prevent voltage surges resulting from an improper earthing system. Short circuits are a result of loose insulation and may occur anytime. However, a grounding wire may prevent these damages that can also be easily removed by technicians later.
    Types of Earthing In India:
    Electrical grounding, also known as earthing, is done in several ways like housing, wiring, electrical device, and more. The different types of electrical earthing systems in India are:
    1: Pipe Earthing
    Pipe earthing is a common form of earthing in India that uses a steel pipe to connect with the earth’s electrical conductors. The size of the iron pipe depends on the soil moisture and the magnitude of the current. The soil’s moisture will decide the depth for the placement of the steel pipe.
    2: Plate Earthing
    Plate earthing is where a copper plate is distanced at 3 meters from the earth and vertically placed in the ground pit.
    3: Mat Earthing
    Mat earthing connects vertical and horizontal electrodes - a horizontal electrode represses the current generated due to a massive fault while the vertical electrode dissipates the current into the earth.
    4: Marconite Earthing
    Marconite earthing is the safest earthing technology that uses low-resistant copper earth electrodes that are specially manufactured to deliver a premium quality earthing system for solar power plants. It is a dark grey material that is mixed with cement and water to produce safe and secure earthing system.

    Strip Resistance & Electrode Resistance are in Parallel so we can not add like (R1+R2) .... It should be added in parallel like (R1*R2/R1+R2).... Please clarify this...

    Sir I think there is a miscalculation in Total Earthing Resistance which is greater than 2 ohms (1.772+0.580=2.35), means we need 9 electrodes instead of 8.

    Electronic circuit me 1 ohm se adhik earth resistance hone per dikkat ati hai, keonki 20000se 80000 amp current 250 se 300mili second ke liye lightning current rahati hai .aise me hamare electronic circuit me bar bar kharabi aa jati hai.Elecyrical circuit to sadharan SPD aur sadharan earthing se kam chala leti hai.

      If you want to do earthing for any equipment then it is normally 1/2 of the phase wire

    What if there is no junction box and strings are directly connected to input of inverter as now a days most inverters have separate input for each string?

    Why you have considered 1000 Value as Fault current. how you have decided No. of earth Pits. Don't we need Separate calculation for AC, DC and LA as per Fault current. If possible Please help with these doubts clearification

    total earth resistance is not 1.84 ohm and its is 2.352 ohm. so this is more than 2ohm now we take 10 nos of earth electrode and resistance is 1.998ohm and less than 2ohm.

(2) THE RATING OF EQUIPMENT IN CIRCUIT WHICH CREATES SHORT ARE NOT INCLUDED IN CALCULATION. (3) I FEELS THAT TOTAL RESISTIVITY AT THE TIME OF SHORT CIRCUIT SHOULD BE CALCULATED AND THESE SHOULD BE DIVIDED BY RESISTIVITY OF EACH EARTH PIT. REQUEST TO CLARIFY.

    The effective resistance of electrode and strip should be (RsxRe)/(Rs+Re) as the arrangement are connected in parallel not in series. And what about the role of current density(Id)

    In this video you have assumed number of electrodes as 8. We need to check if the number of electrodes is adequate. The number of electrodes required is to be calculated based on the fault current that can be dissipated by an electrode. This is to be calculated from the Surface Current density of an electrode which will yield the surface area required to dissipate the Fault Current. From the total surface area required and the surface area of single electrode, we can calculate the number of electrodes required.

      Recheck some factors. Normally 4 Pits are enough. Dia 57mm x 3 m pipe must be considered.
