    That was a gem of a story, providing the context that is so easily lost. If there are any of the Barnes family still on the area I’m sure they would be touched by the flag. Greatest Generation

      @WalkwithHistory  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure. I should have asked in the store. The Barnes had a daughter that was around the same age of Winter’s sister and he enjoyed spending time with her like his sister. He wrote her letters after they left Aldbourne too.

    Greatest Generation! From what I can tell Maj. Dick Winters was a truly noble soul - he possessed a deep humanity that clearly comes out in all the interviews I have seen to date. The love he had for his men was rivalled only by his outstanding leadership ability. A natural leader, an insightful tactician, an impeccable soldier, a great American. Thank you for your contribution to his memory here 🔥🕊🇺🇸

    "greatest generation" Thank you. Thank you for honoring this man and those who helped him. Thank you for representing America in such a noble way. Thank you for bringing us along to see these sites so that they can be more real to us. These heroes are dying away quickly and what they accomplished is being forgotten because our schools are not teaching our young people the history they need to know. It behooves us to shoulder the mantel and carry the message of the sacrifices that were made for our freedom and the freedom of those in other countries and to make the younger generation hear and understand the vital importance of keeping history alive.

    "Greatest Generation"......................I go to the 5 Beach landing areas every year to honour the people who landed there to spearhead the drive into Europe; never fails to put me in awe of what these brave people did during those landings and forward to take Europe. Greatest Generation! I come from a family rich in military tradition in every branch, and I've been going down the rabbit hole of WWII, and of late delving into the life and philosophy of Dick Winters, who has quickly become my personal hero, and someone to aspire to be like. Thank you for taking this journey and for representing grateful Americans to the Barnes family and all of the allies that fought along with us to defeat tyranny and restore freedom to Europe. “Greatest Generation” outstanding video Jenn. Here’s a salute to you and Scott for what you do, thank you. Dick Winters grew up in my home town and his final resting place is about 15 min from me. Favorite Band of Brothers moment, that’s a tough one. But I’d say leadership has to do with everything, so my moment would be when all the NCO’s went in front of COL Sink to say they pretty much had no faith in CPT Sobel as a combat leader.

    My house is a C1630 thatched house and they are quite warm as the thatch is about 2ft thick and they thatched the houses as tiles were very expensive prior to the industrial revolution but straw was not and literally growing in the fields .
