Yep, after she froze to death and when she got shot by Ruth, this song just feels more mocking than it should. I think the best way to make the song sinister would have been to make it just _not play_ one time, right at the end as time was unraveling. It would be the ultimate "Oh fuck..." moment of "something's wrong."
I just love how the creators of Russian Doll chose this song in particular. The lyrics work so well and the upbeat bouncy music seems just so mocking come he later deaths when everything starts falling apart. So so good.

The use of this was genius. It gets you adjusted to the natural tempo of the song, and then it slowly takes that away as reality starts to collapse. I will never forget the scene where the appartment is empty and it's just maxine dancing
I watched Russian Doll for the first time back then when I was heavily depressed. That was during a ski trip, I sat in the shower in the dark. After watching it, I have felt a great joy inside me. Had this on repeat in my head on a beautiful, sunny day at some ski hut with some nice hot choc. This song has been my favourite ever since. My alarm tone. My motivational morning song. My "it will get better, live worryfree!"
