Spirit is a great character. He's got so many flaws with not being able to control his impulses around women or struggling to properly communicate with his daughter, but he always tries to do better. He's competent, moral, and probably the most compassionate member of the cast. I wish we had gotten to see him have some kind of heart to heart with Soul about Maka. I feel like they had a lot in common, but Soul made sure not to make the same mistakes Spirit did.
I feel as if this song really captures Spirit's love for Maka. He has an unconditional love for her that will never die. He never stops trying to convince Maka he loves her. I find that truly heart warming.

I really love Spirit. He has his many flaws but he's really just a very caring and amazing character. He may have been the cause of his divorce and his daughters disgust of him but he tries really hard to protect everyone around him, especially Maka. He's the perfect counter to Medusa, who was cruel and put her only child's well-being at stake for her own experiments while Spirit would do anything to just get a smile off Maka. It really annoyed me at the end of the manga *(SPOILERS)* when Maka returned from the moon battle and hugged Marie just because of that shitty 'boob madness' ending. Anyway, Spirit is a gr8 character and I want him to be loved.

I honestly feel kinda bad for Spirit. I mean yeah, he is a total player and if that was my dad it would so not go over with me very well! But he still tries his hardest to be a good parent to Maka.
I was my fathers entire world for the first 3 years of my life, during this time my mom was pregnant with my little brother, was great with children and treated my older sister like she was his own child. Sadly my father came from a war torn country, the combination of ptsd and the grief of my grandfather passing before I was born, everything just got to much for him and he lost his mind. I'm 19 right now and for the last 16 years my father has been in and out of my life. Hearing this makes me cry after everything I've been through and how I have just had a few moments with in my life.
My father used to be here for me and very affectionate towards me to the point it was annoying, that kind of dad-daughter relationship lasted from me being 4-5to 12years old. My dad wasnt here when i was born, he didnt take care of me when i was a baby and as soon as i turned 12 he started becoming distant due to my grandmother manipulating him into divorcing my mom. I even saw him push my mom into my room’s door. She came to cry in my room. He never saved money for my future, nor my present, he wasnt here when my grandmother died, when i got bullied, when i got severe anorexia, when i graduated, when my little sisters needed him... He used to be so much different, now he turned into a completely different person and im just disgusted. I can see myself in Maka, i can understand the disappointment she feels when she sees him. But what i can understand is that Spirit is also doing his best, but my dad... isnt doing anything. I dont know who this person is anymore.
This song makes me cry every time. I can feel the warmth of Spirits soul in the melody. It feels like the music is coming out of my keyboard, traveling up my nerves, and snuggling it's way into my heart.
This is a little more on Spirit rather than the song itself, but... I always liked his character, he's a giant idiot that can't control himself and I understand Maka's anger, but I can't help but love Spirit. Yeah he's usually in the comedy scenes, but more than that, they do a wonderful job showing how much he loves Maka. I really find this in how affected he is that Medusa would use her own child for cruel experiments, while Spirit wouldn't dream of raising a finger to harm Maka, and just wants her to be safe and happy. But he really is a moron that deserves at least a bit of what he gets XD But it's just his flaws that shape him more realistically as a character :3 (And to say something about the song; It's gorgeous!)
Spirit is, along with Franken Stein and Kid, one of my favourite characters. I like all these characters because they have so many flaws but are, in their very own ways, likeable. I mean: Stein is completely insane, but also a genius. Kid has his issues, but he's a freaking badass. And Spirit, well, he was an asshole, but he had some hard times and he is one tragic character. Although the characters in Soul Eater aren't as well written as in Evangelion, some are really perfect.
Spirit and soul have *a lot* in common but tbh, that is normal, it's normal to crush on a person similar to your parents and Maka somewhere still loves her dad so their similairitys kinda benefit soul in being a crush
IMO because it's both comforting and painfully nostalgic. Like a parent reliving the fond memories they had with their child, but you can feel that it's something that 'used to be'. Yet no matter the situation, you feel that the parent will always be there for their child, even if their love may go unrequited for now.

Maka's still young, a little too young and stubborn to understand, but one day when she's older she will understand and will come to love her father as he is just as he loves her. then, they can truly be a family again, not a full family, but a family all the same:)

We can't deny Spirit's flaws, because we all know he has a lot of them. Though, we can admire that he's a great character and tries his best to be the greatest father he can be to Maka. I love Maka, but one thing that always upset me was her complete disregard for everything Spirit did/does for her. Anyways, what I'm saying is that Spirit deserves recognition for more than just being a cheater. He's a great father and regardless of what Maka does, he always loves her and wants the best for her and I think that's neat.
Him being a player has nothing to do with him being a dad. He is an amazing dad. Bad husband yes,But good father. He was not married to Maka. He still loves his ex-wife as well, so the divorce is punishment enough. Troubles between parents should be just that, troubles between parents. Kids should stay out of it and just be happy with their parents if the parents are good parents. Spirit is a good dad, so Maka should grow up. At least he is there for her, unlike her mom who only sends postcards.

When I see posts of “Maka wants to kill her dad so bad” I get a bit upset. Even if she acts like she hates him (and I completely understand why) you can see she still cares for him, somewhere in her soul. Just like when he breaks down over them, I bet she wants to about him as well, hoping for him to straighten up and take care of the family he has. (But maybe he does; I haven’t finished the series yet.)
How Maka treats Spirit bugs me. I ended up disliking her for it. Spirit cheated on her mom not on her. That is between her parents. Spirit loves her, is there for her(unlike her yet to be seen mother) and she is damn lucky to have such a dad. Many chars have family proplems. BS doesn't have a family, Tsubaki had to kill her own brother, the thompsen sisters grew up on the streets.. Maka acts selfish. Spirit is a bad husband but an amazing dad and a great friend. I hope Maka will see that soon.

Thinking about my dad is hard because he is really old (73) and i'm 15 [because i'm a adopted child]. i wish he was at least 35-55 years old like my friend's dads,And i'd wished that some times when i looked at stars or blew out my candles on my birthday cake.The thought of him leaving kills me.I want him to stay long enough for him to walk me down the aisle and see my kids.Love your father as long as you can. I don't have as much time like everyone else.

He's not really a creep. He does everyhting he does with the best possible intentions. He never goes out to hurt anyone or somehow make them feel less important. He just enjoys the company of women. My dads a little bit like that. My mum gets annoyed, yeah, but but my dad loves her and me and I don't hold it against him because at the end of the day he'll always be there for me and my mum. Spirit is my dad, my dad is Spirit and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ugh, it kinda pisses me off seeing some of these comments. I grew up without a dad for most of my life (I'm 18. I found him, yes FOUND, when I was 17). I love him even though he did fuck up. Appreciate your Dad because man when he's gone, he's gone. Be glad your Dad even loves you because, really, he doesn't HAVE to.
My father has done worse things to me and my family than Makas but I'd be in tears if he showed me the same unconditional love Spirit has for Maka. Probably why I sort of dislike Maka haha
When i was little i never liked my dad, he was so selfish.. he was mean to my mother and he slapped me and my brother very often. One day he left without telling when i was like 12 or 13 or something.. months later he came back and he wanted to try again. I never wanted but he still stayed.. it started good and today (im 15) hes the nicest person i know.. he wants to hug me everyday, he says hes proud and wants to know how my days are and everyday he comes with his funny jokes and smiles
Soul's personal life is not the only thing we need to know more about in the manga, we also should know more about Spirit's. My prediction is that maybe when Spirit was born his mother who he may get his red hair from died after having him & that his father must've been neglectful, cruel, sadistic, & abusive towards him when he was younger, I also imagine Spirit having a brother whom he adores alot being 13 yrs older & he took custody of him because of how their dad treats little Spirit.
This song is truly sad. My dad got home today ranting us about not answering our phones. He claimed that he was about to be swallowed by a machine, working as a mechanic. He told me that he was calling many times to tell us how to collect out college money and how he loved us. I cried for a long time thinking about this, and for being a careless teenager I deserve this. Don't be stupid like me and take every moment with your dad. Through out the series I've wanted someone major to die, But then I thought, They can't kill Maka, Soul, Kid, The Thompson Sisters, And Black star and Tsubaki Because their main, Death and stein have To Big of Jobs, And so then I realized, KILL OFF SPIRIT! stay with me- If we kill him off it will make a great setback on the series and Also it can make Maka realize how much she loved him! This would Also Satisfy my "Lust for death Of the Majors" Spirit is Kind of a big deal- So if he dies it could cause quite a problem/Conflict in the plot of 'Soul Eater' Who would Take his place? How would Stein/Death react? Would Death have to Take a random Character as his new death scythe? How would He die?

I also understand the "lust for death of a major character" haha, but I had a really weird dream where this actually happened- basically, in my dream, Soul dies protecting Maka and everyone was grief-stricken, obviously, so Kid says that he's going to bring Soul back because he's a grim reaper and would be able to travel into the next life and bring Soul's soul (hehe) back. But Stein warns him that bringing Soul back would cost the life of another, or it would upset the balance of nature, etc. And at first Kid is going to trade himself for Soul, but Spirit volunteers because he knows how much Soul means to Maka. So Spirit trades his life for Soul's, for Maka. It was a hell of a dream XD But then that scenario also raises the questions you posed, as well as how would Soul deal with the guilt of causing Spirit's death and causing Maka so much grief? Would this change the way Maka viewed him?

Wished the creator and his team would have taken the time to analyze all of those scenarios, their implications and the various outcomes. Soul Eater has so much meat to it that it's just a shame that both the anime and manga evolved into what it is today...and the way both ended...they could have so much better, could have delivered so much more... There's a world of possibilities; so, so much that could have been changed into something better, into a more deeper and profound territory in terms of plot and character development, as well as themes/topics including satires. So much that could have been discussed, that could have been explored. What a shame. I'd love to read/watch something like that. Perhaps some day some fanfiction writer will be able to ease out, even if just a little, the hearts of the unquenchable fans.
i get where you're coming from but i definitely disagree, that's making spirit's death all about other characters, when if he dies it should be sad and moving in and of itself, not just as a provider of motivation to other characters. spirit always got the short end of the stick (constantly used for comedic relief, never getting actual meaningful scenes with maka or anyone else because they always turned to someone else to make it funny even though spirit absolutely deserved their attention and love) so i'm actually incredibly happy he lived. also, death does die in the manga.
How Spirit died: alternate ending. It would be like we’re he’s injured and when he heard Maka screams inside madness he found a way to get inside the madness barrier because Black Star, Kid and Maka weakened the kishin a little bit before and Spirit said Maka get back up sweetheart plz use me now! we don’t have much time and they did Maximum Soul resonance and found a new power up and when to charge at the keshin and it failed because Maka was knocked out in mid air because of the fight before hand then the keshin was going to kill Maka then Spirit sacrificed himself and got stabed in the heart and he says tell her I wish things were better and hey sweetie take care of your mother when you see her again and keep these friends they may be different from you but am sure you find a way and remember be brave for I will always be with you then he turns into black dust As Maka looks up into the void of the madness barrier then he was gone… The kishin talks to Maka about being weak to not control her fathers power and let him die and that he was an idiot for coming here…and takes his soul and ate it in front of her then she powers up to be the ultimate weapon and fought kishin in an all out battle then after some time Soul got up and blame himself for not being strong enough to help am sorry Maka!!! it’s my fault your father died because I wasn’t by your side! then she snaps out of rage from madnesses and said hey Soul thanks for everything for the good and bad days she smiles and soul says this is why your the best meister partner I could ever have and I won’t leave your side it’s just not possible for me he smiles and they power up and used all there soul resonance to make maka become the biggest scythe ever seen from anyone in the world it even broke the madness barrier itself. Soul had to carry her and he became a meister and used her to defeat the keshin with one last swing that could cut the sun in half then Maka says this… this is for my father!!! And everyone says do it now!!! Memories popes up about everyone and how they push her and themselves this far. Then with one big explosion it was done all we could see from the episode was a bright light that blinded all until the next episode of soul eater.

I feel bad for spirit most of the time
Spirit may have been a lousy husband, but he is a very good father. I truly feel sorry for him and so annoyed with Maka. Some kids don't even get to see their dads after a divorce.
She just hates him because he basically drove away her mother, it's also hinted that she always looked up to her more then her father who was out with other women most of the time so it would make sense for her to hate him for that
I remember getting emotional when I heard this ost when Maka was checking the board and she got number 1 in the test

We can't deny Spirit's flaws, because we all know he has a lot of them. Though, we can admire that he's a great character and tries his best to be the greatest father he can be to Maka. I love Maka, but one thing that always upset me was her complete disregard for everything Spirit did/does for her. Anyways, what I'm saying is that Spirit deserves recognition for more than just being a cheater. He's a great father and regardless of what Maka does, he always loves her and wants the best for her and I think that's neat.

Him being a player has nothing to do with him being a dad. He is an amazing dad. Bad husband yes,But good father. He was not married to Maka. He still loves his ex-wife as well, so the divorce is punishment enough. Troubles between parents should be just that, troubles between parents. Kids should stay out of it and just be happy with their parents if the parents are good parents. Spirit is a good dad, so Maka should grow up. At least he is there for her, unlike her mom who only sends postcards.
Her mom left because of spirit & spirit has full custody of her, Maka's mom sends postcards because spirit wouldn't let her take Maka to the place Maka's mom left to. Maka has every right to hate spirit & in all honesty he absolutely SHOULD work for her forgiveness when SHE decides he's earned it, saying she has to just "grow up" when he was the sole cause of their family breaking up is unbelievably stupid especially when spirit STILL hasn't stopped doing the EXACT same thing that lead to that situation in the first place.I know this comment is 10yrs old but I am still going to share my mind in it anyways

When I see posts of “Maka wants to kill her dad so bad” I get a bit upset. Even if she acts like she hates him (and I completely understand why) you can see she still cares for him, somewhere in her soul. Just like when he breaks down over them, I bet she wants to about him as well, hoping for him to straighten up and take care of the family he has. (But maybe he does; I haven’t finished the series yet.)
How Maka treats Spirit bugs me. I ended up disliking her for it. Spirit cheated on her mom not on her. That is between her parents. Spirit loves her, is there for her(unlike her yet to be seen mother) and she is damn lucky to have such a dad. Many chars have family proplems. BS doesn't have a family, Tsubaki had to kill her own brother, the thompsen sisters grew up on the streets.. Maka acts selfish. Spirit is a bad husband but an amazing dad and a great friend. I hope Maka will see that soon.

Thinking about my dad is hard because he is really old (73) and i'm 15 [because i'm a adopted child]. i wish he was at least 35-55 years old like my friend's dads,And i'd wished that some times when i looked at stars or blew out my candles on my birthday cake.The thought of him leaving kills me.I want him to stay long enough for him to walk me down the aisle and see my kids.Love your father as long as you can. I don't have as much time like everyone else.

He's not really a creep. He does everyhting he does with the best possible intentions. He never goes out to hurt anyone or somehow make them feel less important. He just enjoys the company of women. My dads a little bit like that. My mum gets annoyed, yeah, but but my dad loves her and me and I don't hold it against him because at the end of the day he'll always be there for me and my mum. Spirit is my dad, my dad is Spirit and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ugh, it kinda pisses me off seeing some of these comments. I grew up without a dad for most of my life (I'm 18. I found him, yes FOUND, when I was 17). I love him even though he did fuck up. Appreciate your Dad because man when he's gone, he's gone. Be glad your Dad even loves you because, really, he doesn't HAVE to.

When i was little i never liked my dad, he was so selfish.. he was mean to my mother and he slapped me and my brother very often. One day he left without telling when i was like 12 or 13 or something.. months later he came back and he wanted to try again. I never wanted but he still stayed.. it started good and today (im 15) hes the nicest person i know.. he wants to hug me everyday, he says hes proud and wants to know how my days are and everyday he comes with his funny jokes and smiles
Soul's personal life is not the only thing we need to know more about in the manga, we also should know more about Spirit's.
My prediction is that maybe when Spirit was born his mother who he may get his red hair from died after having him & that his father must've been neglectful, cruel, sadistic, & abusive towards him when he was younger, I also imagine Spirit having a brother whom he adores alot being 13 yrs older & he took custody of him because of how their dad treats little Spirit.

This song is truly sad. My dad got home today ranting us about not answering our phones. He claimed that he was about to be swallowed by a machine, working as a mechanic. He told me that he was calling many times to tell us how to collect out college money and how he loved us. I also understand the "lust for death of a major character" haha, but I had a really weird dream where this actually happened- basically, in my dream, Soul dies protecting Maka and everyone was grief-stricken, obviously, so Kid says that he's going to bring Soul back because he's a grim reaper and would be able to travel into the next life and bring Soul's soul (hehe) back. But Stein warns him that bringing Soul back would cost the life of another, or it would upset the balance of nature, etc. And at first Kid is going to trade himself for Soul, but Spirit volunteers because he knows how much Soul means to Maka. So Spirit trades his life for Soul's, for Maka. It was a hell of a dream XD But then that scenario also raises the questions you posed, as well as how would Soul deal with the guilt of causing Spirit's death and causing Maka so much grief? Would this change the way Maka viewed him?
+Erwin Smith +Maeve Travis that would actually be a really, really interesting plot point. Wished the creator and his team would have taken the time to analyze all of those scenarios, their implications and the various outcomes. Soul Eater has so much meat to it that it's just a shame that both the anime and manga evolved into what it is today...and the way both ended...they could have so much better, could have delivered so much more... There's a world of possibilities; so, so much that could have been changed into something better, into a more deeper and profound territory in terms of plot and character development, as well as themes/topics including satires. So much that could have been discussed, that could have been explored. What a shame. I'd love to read/watch something like that. Perhaps some day some fanfiction writer will be able to ease out, even if just a little, the hearts of the unquenchable fans.

i get where you're coming from but i definitely disagree, that's making spirit's death all about other characters, when if he dies it should be sad and moving in and of itself, not just as a provider of motivation to other characters. spirit always got the short end of the stick (constantly used for comedic relief, never getting actual meaningful scenes with maka or anyone else because they always turned to someone else to make it funny even though spirit absolutely deserved their attention and love) so i'm actually incredibly happy he lived. also, death does die in the manga.
How Spirit died: alternate ending. It would be like we’re he’s injured and when he heard Maka screams inside madness he found a way to get inside the madness barrier because Black Star, Kid and Maka weakened the kishin a little bit before and Spirit said Maka get back up sweetheart plz use me now! we don’t have much time and they did Maximum Soul resonance and found a new power up and when to charge at the keshin and it failed because Maka was knocked out in mid air because of the fight before hand then the keshin was going to kill Maka then Spirit sacrificed himself and got stabed in the heart and he says tell her I wish things were better and hey sweetie take care of your mother when you see her again and keep these friends they may be different from you but am sure you find a way and remember be brave for I will always be with you then he turns into black dust As Maka looks up into the void of the madness barrier then he was gone… The kishin talks to Maka about being weak to not control her fathers power and let him die and that he was an idiot for coming here…and takes his soul and ate it in front of her then she powers up to be the ultimate weapon and fought kishin in an all out battle then after some time Soul got up and blame himself for not being strong enough to help am sorry Maka!!! it’s my fault your father died because I wasn’t by your side! then she snaps out of rage from madnesses and said hey Soul thanks for everything for the good and bad days she smiles and soul says this is why your the best meister partner I could ever have and I won’t leave your side it’s just not possible for me he smiles and they power up and used all there soul resonance to make maka become the biggest scythe ever seen from anyone in the world it even broke the madness barrier itself. Soul had to carry her and he became a meister and used her to defeat the keshin with one last swing that could cut the sun in half then Maka says this… this is for my father!!! And everyone says do it now!!! Memories popes up about everyone and how they push her and themselves this far. Then with one big explosion it was done all we could see from the episode was a bright light that blinded all until the next episode of soul eater.
