I turned a tablecloth into an 18th-century chemise! | Simplicity 8162

  • I'm embarking on a full 18th-century costume! I have never made anything from this era before, so I need to make all of the foundation garments before I can start sewing the pretty stuff.
This video is about the chemise or shift from Simplicity 8162 by American Duchess. It's the first video in a series of (probably) six videos that will show my attempt at all of the pieces in this pattern and Simplicity 8161, the companion pattern.
Here is the video I mentioned about how I'm committed to sewing my way through my stash: • 2021 ANTI-HAUL | I Got...

I'm so glad you are finding my videos helpful! Be sure to watch them all because I had some issues with the chemise and bumpad that I fixed later in the series. Happy sewing!

Thanks for this video with this pattern! I'll be trying it myself now. I love the Princess Bride part! 😂

Yay! I'm glad you liked it! Also - I have altered this chemise a few times since I made it because the more I used the the less happy I was. It was just WAY WAY too big. Do a mockup! I should have made a 14 instead of 20. I ended up taking out a ton in the body width by slicing it down the middle length-wise and resewing it, I narrowed the sleeves so they fit my arms more tightly, and I ended up removing the cuff ruffles altogether (they are hard to shove into narrow 18th-century sleeves).

Thanks for watching and subscribing! I'm glad you enjoyed the video - I did end up sizing way WAY down on this chemise in a later video. :-)

I enjoyed your sewing room update, or was it makeover? So much so that I I’m inspired to redo my own sewing room, finally. I subscribed, thank you for your content, I know it’s a lot of work.

What a great idea! Thank you... I have an old thrifted table cloth with a few stains.

It's a great way to repurpose old linens. But definitely size down - I ended up altering this chemise in a later video to make it much smaller.

Oops, didn't realize you already gathered the neckline (from your comment on the stays video)
