On Friday, December 20, 2024, about 200 riders (mostly the ones that live around Capstan Station) and I attended the official opening of the unfinished Capstan Station in Richmond. While it’s great to see improvements like this in public transit, I noticed many issues, reported here. I called the City of Richmond permits department to see if they had issued a final inspection permit. But there was no answer, only an answering machine. I left my name and number. However, with many obvious deficiencies, perhaps the station should have not been opened yet. I have documented - Elevators not working -Traffic signal and crosswalk from the west side of No.3 Road to the station on the east side of No. 3 Rd. (No.3 Rd and McMyn Way) not working crosswalk is closed - Bus stops were not moved to be in front ( and across the No.3 Rd) of the Station. ( bus routes 403, 407 and N10) - Bike lockers for only 10 bikes not working. - No seats available on platforms. During the day trains come every 2 or 3 mins but at night every 20 mins. and many passengers cannot stand up for 20 mins - No bus/walking/bike maps are posted - Final repaving of northbound curb lane of No. 3 Road has not been done ( lane is blocked ) - No designated place for kiss and ride to unload /pick up passengers - The restaurant (Trees - organic coffee and cheesecake) is still under construction and will not be open until spring 2025 For my complete audit of the stations on the Canada Line see this City Hall Watch article from Dec. 3, 2024 Link: cityhallwatch.wordpress.com/2024/12/03/walking-audit-all-canada-line-stations-davidowicz/ Watch the first 10 mins of Richmond City Council on Dec. 18, 2024 th-cam.com/video/zVvjP33MDgw/w-d-xo.html
