I don't know what rubrics r use. But by cannon law for the ceremony priest and serves MUST GENUFLECT, in front of the real presents. But in the new rite after vactican 2. There is no need to Genuflect or bow, do to the disbelief of the real presents. Why r girls serving after vatican 2??. Plus no server is ever aloud to touch the Chalice. But the chalices after vatican 2 r not concecrated. I hope that will help u all with yr quiestions. Fyi im catholic and a Sedevacantis.

3 servers is normal at St. Mary of the Mills in Laurel, MD. They often need that many so that there can be 2 servers helping the priest during presentation of the gifts while the crucifer waits in the back to lead the collection to the altar when it is ready.

I'm typically seeing the same kids serving at mass week after week, when there should be 4 different teams of 3 altar servers at each mass where each team is serving 1 Sunday per month. The fact that one of the boys that I see serving on a regular basis will likely be aging out in 6 months isn't helping.

You can serve Our Lord other ways, hun. We've had many incredible women in the Church and none ever wanted to serve Mass or pretend like their priests. It's ONLY men and boys for altar servers because that's how it always has been - it used to be called "acolyte" and was a stepping stone to being a priest. Still is.

I was an altar server from the ages of 9 to 13. Helped me stay faithful to my catholic faith.
Not a single bow made by the servers. They should always bow and if not holding items genuflect if the Blessed sacrament is present.
