What is really incredible is to think that the generation born in the 70s had composers like Michel Legrand for the music of their cartoons... with the extraordinary result that we hear here: a song which, even without the words, is of extraordinary harmonic richness (not counting the melodies within the melody - the counterpoints), and can be listened to like that, for pleasure, without needing the singer. And all this for the little mono speaker of our parents' cathode ray tube televisions... We didn't realize how lucky we were and the quality we had at the time in public service.. .
I grew up in the early 2000s, was still like 10 and in my country they would air this cartoon.... Every kid loved it tho its old... And this song just made me imagine how life would be like in space.... And I also had a crush on robocop.... Imagining he'd go out to space with me
Worth noting, Once Upon a Time in Space (along with other many other Once Upon a Time…series shows) were scored by Michel Legrand, who is legendary for scoring the films The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort (both nominated for Best Score at the Oscars). Never noticed it until now, but really puts into perspective how the Once Upon a Time… series' music is so essential to the timeless quality of its best entries (esp Space and Life). Bravo Monsieur!

I think a lot of european kids like me dreamed on this show and got a lot of references, i realise now we all saw the same show and are culturaly connected. But now europe has become lobby corporate shit, get on your feet fellow europeans and try to make a dream come true !
I find it strange how you must've misunderstood the whole message of the series. I'm very much against corporations but it's not cultural hegemony that creates fruitfull futures but progressive policies and co-operation between all of mankind. I hope we'll get Star Trek, minus all the nuclear wars and military hierarchies.
Ah yes, Once upon a time Space, a kids cartoon that featured wars, death, war crimes, infanticide, complex moral dilemas, ancient aliens conspiracy theories, debates on what it means to be a human, not to mention space naz1s and literal skynet as the main villains.
I like the original French version much better. Like the style of singing better and the translation is, understandably, not as good as the original text that was written for the song.
Virginia Vee, I believe was her name. American born but moved to France and was a well known singer and actress. Great voice. Passed on regrettably, but she lived a long and good life.

This amazing show is so obscure, and that's just sad. It deserves way more recognition than it gets.

The woman singing sounds a lot like Shirley Bassey.
