ROMA INVICTA! Also, neat aside, if you give Rome to the Etruscans, they can give it to you back in exchange for reinstating the Roman Monarchy and becoming a feudatory. Can also just as easily break off and reconquer them afterwards. Early Empire without the Dictatorship!
And then he goes and let’s it die, no imperator Rome video in a whole month my guy I’m waiting with my phone in hand waitingggggg for a notificationnnnnnn for imperator romeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
A lot of Roman slaves were captives from war, it wasn't really a racial/religious things. For example most Roman nobles spoke Greek, but Greek slaves were highly prized (cause they were often up to date on all the cool kid Greek plays etc.) The clothes a citizen wore were more indicative of their social status than skin colour
Whether Rome's rise was surefire or not, this game really makes it seem like Rome's rise was surefire. Right off the bat, they have four vassals, each with their own troops. They already are the best in their region for quality and quantity. *And they only snowball from there.* Good luck playing anyone in Gaul; even good luck won't save you.
Didn’t get why laith’s campaign got massive neighbors. Every time I play imperator is literally just a buffet until I start coming to blows with the heirs of Alexander.
Ackshually, in ancient times they very much had to justify slavery. It's just that for contextual reasons it was harder for people who opposed slavery to do anything.

commenting so the algorithm pushes the video and this game gets more social media recognition. My favorite historical period is this exactly and I think this game has immense potential. I am desperate for it to be revived!
First tip. Pin your ruler, and set them to gather political influence. Just leave them on that their entire lives, and check back every once in a while to ensure the mission is still going. Political influence is usually the limiting resource as time goes on, especially because of how expensive cities are (and you'll be wanting to spam those). Depending on how poor you are, you may need to prioritize gold- but that's generally only something you'll do early on or if you're trying to build a wonder. Loyalty in this game is really important. For instance, your political influence generation is largely dependent on the loyalty of the characters holding office, so prioritize getting loyal characters into office. Unless that office is just too fucking important and your only loyal option is some demented gremlin with the education of a pre-schooler, get the most loyal people you can. If they aren't above 90 loyalty, bribe them or give them free hands. That being said, unless you have enough sources of ticking corruption reduction, free hands turns them into a ticking timebomb you'll have to remove eventually. If they have some sort of trait that gives them ticking corruption, this will be sooner rather than later, but if the ticking reduction is limited to around -0.05, you'll be fine for a few decades before it becomes a problem. But once it becomes a problem- hoo boy. Anyway, for ticking corruption reduction, there's an oratory idea that gives it, a law (for republics), and ticking high character wages. There's also some later techs that reduce it. Get as many of these as you can, and if anybody starts looking at you funny, bribe them and give them free hands. If they are, however, too problematic, imprison and execute them, which brings me to my next tip. Tyranny is really good in this game. It makes your Aggressive Expansion decay faster, 'motivates' the slaves, and reduces the expense of imprisoning and executing people, so it's actually pretty meta to run high tyranny (>20 at least, I usually run 40-50). That being said, tyranny also reduces character loyalty (-0.12 a point so not by much) and reduces the threshold for civil war, so the better you are at managing character loyalty and powerbase, the higher you can run your tyranny, and the more aggressive you can be with removing political rivals and the faster you can civilize the barbarians. Ah, in case you don't know, every character has an abstracted amount of 'power base' depending on their personal holdings, position in government, whether or not they head a notable family, are a governer, etc. All that really matters here is the amount of political power they hold in comparison to other characters, helpfully displayed by a percentage value. The aforementioned 'threshold for civil war' is the percentage of powerbase in your nation that must be held by disloyal characters for a civil war to pop. This isn't _too_ terribly hard to manage, because you can generally just throw them a bone and they'll be fine. This does however, get harder the larger your empire is, and the more generally disloyal the characters in your nation are. One more thing, on the subject of technology, when selecting tech guys, you may notice some of the characters there have special traits. These traits will randomly give you an innovation. The math works out in your favor if you prioritize these traits, because your tech generation gets into diminishing returns really quickly- the higher the tech level the slower the generation, and the lower the tech level the faster the generation. In other words, you're going to be rubber banded within a certain amount of tech progress anyway, but the innovations from the traits don't count against this. Also, there are two ways to generate income: trade and slaves- and slaves make trade better too because territories generate an extra resource for some given amount of slaves depending on your buildings and tech. It's all about finding territories with high value trade goods for export, like precious metals, and building a settlement on it with a mine- or a city if you can stack a bunch of slaves. Like, a fuck ton of slaves. Cities are generally better than settlements, but make sure not to build cities on provinces with food, unless you have a really good reason. Cities can't make food, so to feed them you either need a fuck ton of trade routes supplying them with it, or you need to manage the amount of food generated by the settlements there to ensure no one starves to death. All the food generated by every settlement in the province goes into a communal basket all the territories share, with cities being the ones to store the food with granaries. Happiness makes pops produce more stuff, so make sure to keep them happy! Except slaves of course, they always generate 100% of their output no matter their happiness. Anyway, manage their happiness with buildings, laws, giving them stuff in the culture tab, assimilating them into your culture, converting them into your religion (pops of your religion convert to your culture faster, btw), tech, and trade goods. Here's a link to an explanation on religious and cultural conversion: www.reddit.com/r/Imperator/comments/lnrtmn/culture_assimilationreligious_conversion_101/ Lastly, migration is a powerful way of stealing pops from other nations. Get as much as you can, and especially be sure to have at least one port in every province you can. Also, build roads. _Build roads the moment you can_. Link fucking everything, but especially make sure you have nice arterials through your empire for military movements. If you have a bunch of gold and nowhere else to put it, start linking all the individual territories together from every possible direction- as roads specifically exist as connections between two individual territories. If one territory is touching seven others, you can build seven roads to it. There's an oratory idea that gives it, a law (for republics), and ticking high character wages.

They give local food production and also gives a region surplus for the cities, since they take their food out of the region and not only the city province.
Laith its very fascinating you brought up slavery. If you'd ever want to read more into it, Orlando Patterson has a great book on the topic. "Slavery and Social Death: A Contemporary Study".
Paradox should NEVR had let this game go, its their own damn fult that they made imperiator so bare bones no one wanted to play, same with vic3
I am so happy to see more Imperator content! you are doing the work of the roman gods!
The Imperator: Invictus modpack is the reason people still touch this
NGL. This game has the best mission mechanic out of all other paradox games in my opinion. The problem with this game is that i only play it so bad. No matter what country i played, how big it already is, i still getting out numbered by the computer 3 to 4 times bigger than my number.
Game is on sale for 75%, Pack is only around $17 USD,. Finally buying the game because of you Laith
Best composition I’ve found for legions is 20 Heavy Inf, 10 Heavy Cav, 4 engineers and 4 supply
And then he goes and let’s it die, no imperator Rome video in a whole month my guy I’m waiting with my phone in hand waitingggggg for a notificationnnnnnn for imperator romeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
Please more Imperator vídeos, this is such a underrated game.
Laith, you can split your navy to give people admiralty, that's a position they're happy with
A lot of Roman slaves were captives from war, it wasn't really a racial/religious things. For example most Roman nobles spoke Greek, but Greek slaves were highly prized (cause they were often up to date on all the cool kid Greek plays etc.) The clothes a citizen wore were more indicative of their social status than skin colour
Just played an Egypt campaign, this game has honestly improved so much
try kush out for an even better egypt
Whether Rome's rise was surefire or not, this game really makes it seem like Rome's rise was surefire.
Right off the bat, they have four vassals, each with their own troops. They already are the best in their region for quality and quantity.
*And they only snowball from there.* Good luck playing anyone in Gaul; even good luck won't save you.
We need to see Laith in a toga during one playthrough... or on a date
Didn’t get why laith’s campaign got massive neighbors. Every time I play imperator is literally just a buffet until I start coming to blows with the heirs of Alexander.
‘I thought I had a big navy’ rome never really had a navy till after their wars with Cathrage.
I'd never expect a Tunisian to play as his greatest enemy who destroyed his local ancient civilisation
22:42 no i was wrong- THIS is the most successful roman naval battle in history
I have no idea how anyone could think that this interface is cool and clear. I love the look of the map and water, but the rest... bruuh.
Ackshually, in ancient times they very much had to justify slavery. It's just that for contextual reasons it was harder for people who opposed slavery to do anything.
Imperator is Paradox at it's finest: An absolute clusterf*ck of a poorly hidden excel sheet only somewhat enjoyable after 4 years and with a dozen mods.
You should check out the Invictus mod, it breathes life into many regions that desperately needed some attention.
He's already playing with the mod, you can tell because he actually needs to import food, and there's spearman units. Wish he said it though, so more people knew about it
He gives a shoutout to invictus at the end
He’s using it, in the nation selection screen he has all the mission trees from the mod
@@Galaicktbf I’ve had to import food in vanilla, but that’s usually something I have to do later in the game when my capital province has 500+ pops
Thank you for also being someone who enjoys this game. It has its flaws, but it's still fun.
I really want to get into this but I have no clue how to do anything and most tutorials died after the game did :P
A lot of old tutorials still are helpful for some.of the basics
The random freakouts when you run out of grain shipments seems VERY on-brand for a Roman aristocrat.
Imperator: Rome is a real gem of a game. Has tons of potential, just not enough enthusiasm from the producers behind the devs, and the fans being wary of another substandard game launch.
great to see more imperator content, would love to see persia campaign continued tho!
commenting so the algorithm pushes the video and this game gets more social media recognition. My favorite historical period is this exactly and I
think this game has immense potential. I am desperate for it to be revived!
This video made me buy the game, thanks Laith!
okay you convinced me to give it a try - bought the game on the sale ^^
As one of the existing 10 imperator players, thank you for making videos about this game Laith.
Here's a link to an explanation on religious and cultural conversion: www.reddit.com/r/Imperator/comments/lnrtmn/culture_assimilationreligious_conversion_101/
Lastly, migration is a powerful way of stealing pops from other nations.
That first naval engagement with Epirus was such a roman thing lol. Rome have bigger ship why greek no sink?
Been playing on a buccaneer version of Imperator for ages, so I'm happy to finally officially own it through the sale. This game could so easily be their very best if they decided to think long term vs money money money now.
this game has always looked really interesting I wish I wasn’t broke 😕
Getting everything right now is like $20 right now.
The base came is under $10.
🏴☠️
@@Giganfan2k1 yeah I wish I wasn’t broke
Honestly, I liked the recruitment and army system before, but most other changes I like.
Man even paradox couldn’t do what laity did
Refusing to let this game die untill he has learned how it works. Good that its a paradox title, they take some 1000 hours to learn
Make more imperator Rome videos, there really fun to watch
Invictus is great, but they overdid food aspect. Either let your pops die, or edit pop values in game files
The game is pretty polished, I had a playthrough a few months ago and the one thing I did not get is how the heck do pirates always have 30-40 more ships then me when I try to build to their limit I would literally bankrupt ROME :D
Laith the fact that you dont play using the terrain map mode hurts my soul, such a beautiful map
Laith doing god's work
easily the best pdx game
takes the best parts of the second and third best pdx games, eu4 (combat, waging war) and CK (characters that make your nation feel alive) respectively.
Lads, Imperator is like 10 euros right now 9I do not know how much that is in Freedom coinage, but i think its similar)
and the Centurion bundle is only 16. Go get it now!
