I highly recommend Copic paper. Basic paper will suck all the ink

I get what you mean by the "climate will affect drying time" comment, but you picked the wrong contry. The UK and South Africa both have a temperate climate so that will be very much the same. I think you meant something closer to the Sahara ;)
