    I grew up hanging out here and I lived in North Warren. I remember when the mall was built and the used helicopters to put the Air-conditioned units on the roof. So many memories here .

    Aladdins castle arcade was one of my favorite things to do when I was a kid...and me and my fiance visited this mall a couple years ago before the strip mall plans and were brought back in time, in disbelief of how dead it was. This place back in the day was the place to be and was booming. Times have changed however and thanks to the economy and online sales, many malls and local businesses have suffered.

      Steph Berg I revisited this mall several years ago with a friend and it was so sad to see it dead. There were still a couple stores open, but the old JCPenney is (was?) turned into a Big Lots. That’s if I don’t have the opposite ends of the mall reversed in my mind. I practically grew up in this mall in the 80s and 90s. National Record Mart, which became Wall to Wall Sound and Video, later “The Wall”, Bon Ton, the arcade, KMart, Kay Bee Toys, Waldenbooks, and so on. Very sad. Of course now I live hundreds of miles away anyway....

    Enclosed indoor malls > outdoor strip malls any day of the week. So much aesthetic and unique design is lost when it's just an outdoor string of stores.

    I used to spend hours in the arcade as well as the record store. Back in the day, that is where we got our concert tickets for shows in Erie or Buffalo. Got my tickets for REO Speedwagon there.

    Fine, classic tribute to this retro soon to be gone mall. Thanks for the captions as you toured the now defunct retailers. The directory is like a history of stores that have gone to that big shopping mall in the sky. Sad to see this mall go. Lots of classic touches, and it means something to you Ace.
    Curious to see what becomes of this mall as a future shopping strip.
    Big fan of Supermarket Sweep and always wanted to go on the show and get to the point where you race around the store to get the biggest shopping total. The trick was buy the biggest bottles of TIde, Pampers and lots of steaks and other expensive beef cuts.
    Look forward to the weekends and Fridays when I can enjoy your fine work over nighttime beers.

    Label Shopper is not a Salvation Army type of store. It's a company that simply sells steeply discounted clothing that's either over stocked merchandise, slightly damaged or irregular. Their stuff is new, not previously worn.

    They did the same thing to the old Colonnade Mall in Phoenix in the mid 90s. Now it's the busy Camelback Colonnade. They kept one little piece of mall though as there is a basement space containing Last Chance, which is Nordstrom's clearance center. Ride the escalator down to the bargain basement.

    Wow, awesome update on this malls progress, I would hope that they at least keep the yellow benches and fountains. Gotta keep at least something original. Back in the day, things were just simpler when we were kids. I think its cool the stickers in the old music store is still intact.

    You know where there are plants throughout this mall , When i was a kid those areas where typically water fountains or a water feature and as it aged they would just turn them into these imposing areas with plants replacing the fountains. This mall is so old school its triggered mall memories from my youth cuz its the same era of design, so i was just curious if the same was done here

    I loved that every empty store has random stuff from other stores in it among the debris. Also how the store list on the board hasn’t been updated in many years. Electronics boutique became game stop a long time ago (I still have an EB games card). Haven’t see a fashion bug in forever. Walden books has been gone for a few years.

    Interesting. Thanks for the report. Are you generally seeing or finding more dying malls in the last ten years? Are you seeing any increase of second hand stores (i.e. Goodwill, Salvation Army, St. Vincent's, etc) in the last ten years? I have noticed in the last ten years that it seems like there is much less disposable income for many areas that I visit, or for many communities.

    • @CamaroAmx
      @CamaroAmx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      KEK Freedom Heritage the only stuff I’ve noticed besides the bigger name stores going out of business, is that even the well established healthy regional stores are closing a few long standing locations and a lot of vacancies in shopping “plazas” and strip malls. The one shopping plaza near my work is losing bon ton and a furniture store after already losing radio shack and CVS (which moved down the street to its own building). The only stores that will be left is a regional grocery store and an Ollie’s.

    it doesnt even appear to ever have been modernized visually at all. I feel you , Im from w.va. and my town had the largest mall in the state so that translated into the mall being the social hub 90's, where i worked, shopped, scored weed etc.....everything revolved around the mall , and that mall is still doing great it was a lucky mall. Its just weird seeing these places that were so abundant vanish, or its become so gangsta its not a place i want to hang out in. Im totally aware of my "white boy problems" factor right now.

    Great video! That mall is a carbon copy of Indiana Mall, another Zamias property. Indiana Mall is soon to be redeveloped according to an article in the Indiana Gazette a few months ago. 4-5 new anchor stores are supposed to be in the works as well as sprucing up the mall itself. Bon Ton will be done in a few weeks. Rumors are that Kohls might be a replacement, I guess we will find out when the announcements are made. Indiana Mall has great potential if they do it right and bring in the right mix of new stores. With other competing malls at least an hour away in any direction, there is no reason why it can't be turned around.Glad to see changes at Warren Mall too, most Zamias properties are in dis-repair and have high leasing costs.

    Oh my word I was right I knew it was a ponderosa before you put it on the screen. That was the best place to eat when I was kid. It’s sad to see these vintage and awesome malls turned into something so modern. I like indoor malls so much better. Here in the South ( I’m in Tennessee) we have the worst humidity from June to September so outdoor shopping is like visiting a swamp. I just wish we could bring back the old vintage stuff it’s so much better than the new in a lot of ways. Keep up the good work I love your videos!

    Idiots just have to take a beautiful vintage mall and turn it into complete garbage. They can't ever leave anything alone. "It's old, let's get rid of it and make it modern. Modern is better." Yes everyone loves the plain, stale, sterile modern look, where everything is white, all of the lights are ugly and recessed, the store fronts all look the same, nothing has any character and nothing is inviting. And everyone wants to have a mall that was once enclosed turned into an outdoor mall so they can melt in the summer and freeze in the winter while walking from store to store. These companies have no brains and they don't think.

    • @Mark.Watson
      @Mark.Watson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Also, every store has to have exposed ceilings and polished concrete floors. It's so overdone.

    • @AlfredHawthornBennyHill
      @AlfredHawthornBennyHill 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Don't you know that modern and overdone is way better than old and in moderation. Sorry but I like low and some high covered ceilings and the old 70s brick floors way better than ugly concrete. Plus you don't slip and slide everywhere you walk.

He's acknowledged Dan Bell Before and showed his appreciation for Dan's pioneering work in this genre, but honestly I subscribe to both and Ace put's out three times the content that Dan does right now, and alot of Dan's newer stuff is dirty hotel rooms, which isn't NEARLY as interesting as abandoned properties and dying malls! I don't know if you can even say Dan is the gold standard of dead malls considering he put's out as much content on dirty hotel rooms than he does malls!
