@@alexandersteinmetz6857 For me too, and Emppu and Floor. And of cause Tuomas who creates most of this. Never was interested in band members, always only listened to music. But this is different with Nightwish.
Marko was lead singer for a band called Tarot before joining Nightwish. He had written the music during that time, but it didn't fit with them. Tuomas heard Marko playing it one day , he decided it would make a great song and wrote the lyrics about a lonely lighthouse keeper. The 2nd spoken prat roughly translates to "If I play the chorus, you're gonna sing along, right?" - "Yeah!" - "Are you sure?" - "Yeah!" - "Ok, let's do it". Marko's double neck, The Beast, is a custom Warwick bass and Framus guitar(both brand names are owned by the same company). Troy is playing an Irish Low Whistle.
If you watch the official video for this song (on your own, don't need to react to it) with the previous vocalist Anette, you'll get an even better feeling for the meaning of the song. It uses a lot of mythological imagery. And the ending is at the same time sad and gorgeous.
@@deeteenwI concur about a reaction! She's definitively going to love the imagery, and she will for sure recognize that Nightwish are mythical creatures too: after all, their songs are so warm that campfires sit around them!😂 👋🇮🇹🖖
There is a really interesting video of the making of the official video for this song. It was a fascinating piece of on location professional film production.
This show at Tampere was just a magical concert. A massively appreciative home crowd, Floor wore a dress inspired by the Finnish flag and her parents were visiting from the Netherlands and hung out backstage. This song just makes it clear that Nightwish transcends genre - they can (and do!) play anything!
I love Nightwish for the versatility of their music. No matter what mood you're in, they've got the right song for it. I want to thank you for always taking the time for my favorite band and sharing these moments with us.
This is my son's absolute favourite NW song (and I love it too)! He was the one that unintentionally introduced me to the band, because he was playing violin in a band/orchestra combo that did a Nightwish cover, and that put them on my radar. Another thing to be grateful to him for...
The Islander song has lyrics that I think inspired the virtual venue used for the 2 Epic 1 3/4 hr ea virtual concerts at the end of May 2021 in a whimsical Virtual world containing the venue pub location called The Islanders Arms. It is a Steam Punk inspired building with a lighthouse at "the end of the world" . The airship in the world is named "The Spirit of Punk". It arrives to start the show and leaves afterward. Each concert had a slightly different set list (mix of older and new songs) based on the Human:: Nature tour that got put off from 2020 until 2021/2022/2023, due to the pandemic. Over 150,000 people from 108 countries (for the first concert) paid to attend live. I saw both of them live online. Truly magical, but unfortunately without Marco, and the large audience interaction, but it was nice to see them up close making their beautiful music. You should also really watch the official video to this one, its really nice. Has some kinda steampunk feelings where and old sailor is pulling a ship through the land that is however flying in the air. Meanwhile the band sits "inside" a campfire.
Great reaction! Marko is a fantastic singer in his own right and can go from sinister metallic growls to heart breaking, vulnerable and emotional vocals. One of the things I love about Nightwish's music is their ability to pull emotions from me , even when I don't think I am in that place. For another tear jerker from Marko and the band, checkout While Your Lips are Still Red. It is an ode to innocent young love and the lyrics are hauntingly beautiful and sung with such tenderness by Marko. The live version from Wembley will hit you in the feels (makes me tear up every time just like The Islander). It takes this 60 year old back to when he was 17, heading out on a Saturday night hoping to meet that special girl that I could connect with. There is an offical video but I don't think the video matches the lyrics. They are from a Finnish movie that Tuomas and Marko originally wrote the song for. One of my favorite Marko songs, and the last one he sang on, is Endlessness from their Human Nature album. The lyric video is gorgeous and the song is a beautiful celebration of life, a reminder that the thief (death) is always with us so make the most of your time and then in the end, graciously transition into the endlessness of whatever is next. th-cam.com/video/DLFI7Cs7qmk/w-d-xo.html. So glad to see you watch this video, I had and still have the same reaction each time I watch it. It's one of my favorite NW songs. You should see the cinematic video they did for the song (though it has their previous singer, not Floor), it was well done.
Greetings and Love from Köln/Cologne, Germany again. ..lovely reaction, my dear. Well, you heard 'Albatros' and imidentely came up with the 'Rime of the Acient Mariner'. Wuff, thats awesome. So, i guess you're talking bout the book from Samuel L. Coldridge. Or you're one of my bloodsisters from our Iron Maiden-Family. Because they did a song called 'The Rime of.....', in 1985, bout this poem. A 13 minute masterpiece, especially the live version. However, i can't wait seeing more of your reactions. I mean...damn, there's something special bout you, that i don't know..i can't even tell what it is, serious. Have peaceful day, my dear & stay safe...
This is the song that got me hooked on Nightwish way back when Annette was still with the band, and lead me to buying the album Dark Passion Play I miss Marko's voice with the band. Tomorrow (Monday) my wife and myself are off to see them in Gelsenkirchen Germany, she got the tickets as a surprise for my 67th birthday :)
Yes, lots of possible personal interpretations that one can apply to a good song. That's what's great about good music. For me, I'm always most interested in trying to figure out what the composer meant when he penned the lyrics. In this case, if one sees the "official vid," it becomes extremely clear that it is a metaphor for life and death: the struggles and "crosses" one bears in life and, at the moment of death, the contradictory dichotomy of melancholy at it all being over simultaneous with the joy of finally being able to escape the yoke of one's crosses: casting the "anchor to the water, seabed far below" as one sails away for the last time "saying farewell to the world." Tuomas Holopainen is a deep thinker. Very deep. He is of far greater intelligence than anyone else in the music industry that I've ever experienced.
Translation of Marko’s remarks right before the chorus. Marko: “So if I play the chorus, you’ll sing along right?” Audience: “Yeahhhhhhh!” Marko: “You will?” Audience: “Yeahhhhhh!” Marko: “Okay, so we’re gonna do it.”

How many singers in the world can say that they had Floor as a backup singer? Just one. In all honesty, since joining NW, Marko has been huge influence not only in backing up the lead vocal lady each time (Tarja, Anette, Floor) but also a great wing-man to Tuomas' writing. This one in particular was written by Marko himself.
If you liked this you'll like While you lips are still red. The video is good and is from a movie. The live version Floor sings near the end but is more of a Marko written song. Marko leaving still makes me feel very sad Floor does a great job trying to sing Marko's parts but it isn't the same i miss there harmonizing and energy the feed off from each other. Thank you for your time.
Its a great song and i'm ok till Marko sings the chorus then i start to tear up just like you did. So yeh I was all teared up with you and ive heard this so many times yet it still gets me. Thankyou x
