Couldn't help get emotional watching this, seeing this beautiful couple sit, talk and plan their dream wedding was something special. The fact that they and many like them have had to wait for their country to get with the times makes me mad. This is a basic human right that should be afforded to all, regardless of who you love. Not yet. Bill has passed the lower house, has to be passed by the Senate and enacted into law. Hopefully by the end of 2024.

It’s wonderful news to read about marriage equality being officially recognised. When it comes to marriage I agree it is an occasion to celebrate the union of two beautiful people with family and loved ones. And that is the focal point.
Now that we have our soulmate, it is a bonus to have blessings from everyone, the inclusion of an auspicious date, provides a way of showing blessings from god/buddha. But I’d like to think that they will bless your union at any time. I think anything that you plan will be beautiful as it will reflect the love you have for each other.

I was just in your wonderful country and read about the possibility of marriage equality being passed. I don't think that Buddhism is strict about it, but there may be individual monks who will not perform a gay marriage ceremony. I agree with Arm, you can't serve your guests a bottle of water and some potato chips. I've never been to a finger food wedding and where I live, you give the couple $$$ so you are usually at least fed a buffet dinner, since you will be there after dinner time. The way I see couples figure it out, if parents insist on inviting many people, they will help pay for the cost of food, to cover the people they want to invite. I don't see how a gay wedding is different from a hetero wedding. Hopefully the law will pass, so you can enjoy the joys and headaches of planning your wedding.
