This was the original dream of Starting Strength, well over a decade ago. It was completely dedicated to athletes. Over the years, they’ve focused in on who actually pays for all this stuff- upper middle class older men and women. But have no doubt- if Rip could find a few interested high schools and FCS programs, he’d be all over it. He wants to be the “other” Louie Simmons. When the caller stated he bought the SS book in high school, he’s not alone. A ton of people did. Rip just missed the boat and he wasn’t able to sell it to athletic programs- because he couldn’t let coaches have flexibility. He finally attracted some money and marketing folks who moved him away from all that and into the geriatric crowd with a million bucks in a 401k. Good business. But, the caller isn’t wrong- it’s a total missed opportunity that Rogue and CrossFit took over (to everyone’s detriment).
Well I’m bringing it to the Jiujitsu world. I’m a personal trainer and do online coaching for Jiujitsu athletes and starting strength / practical programming training has changed the way I coach these people. Everyone is getting strong as fuck and performing better on the mats.
Well i know for sure squats improved my sprint. If you are a sprinter or track athlete. 5x5 barbell squats combined with some high rep bulgarian split squats will make you a beast. And dont do the split squats with your backfoot on a bench (makes you look like a peanut brain) do it with the backfoot just about 5-6 inches elevated, its how it was originally done by soviet weightlifters.
Everyone knows better than the pro’s. As a coach we are currently all over the 3x5 program. It’s not starting strength but it’s pretty good for us. I would use your course I think it’s great.
@@rlt1975 i think he was getting at; recovering makes you bigger, training is the stimulus and often they had the kids running gassers all day and they cant recover from it along with the strength training SS requires

So disappointed to hear the target market is 55+ viagra folks. I did starting strength at home at about 40 and wished I had found out about it in my 20s.
My high school (UK) had a small weight room but I have no idea who used it. We were allowed in once for some reason and I did a completely uncoached, unsupervised set on the bench press. That's the only time I saw the inside of that room that I recall.
This video undercuts the premise of Starting Strength for me. They’ve been selling the idea that, by adhering to the principles of Starting Strength, you can achieve the 500 lb deadlift etc. This principle is entirely undercut by the admission that the target demographic is the 55 year old on viagra. Seriously, how many 55 year olds that have never trained before come even close to pulling 500? I know, people are gonna chime in and say I’m 60 and been following Starting Strength for 3 years and pulled 600. Irrespective, I call bullshit. 99% of your target demographic will never achieve a 500 lb deadlift not at 55 years old. I’d bet the vast majority couldn’t have done it when they were 25 either.
Your program has already been copied and used by unauthorized users. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to expand. There’s a bunch more money there than the books and coaching seminars for sure, and those things will still exist! Interesting take on this for sure. Starting strength could be a big part of high school and college programs for all athletes if you can sell it wide enough! Also, way to bag on the people who do want to use your program, seems a little off! Yeah they have more money, but the power is in the numbers as marketing/sales go, right? Thanks for the video, you guys are great!
Rip is a dummy in many ways, but his unwillingness to dilute his product for the masses shows better business acumen than 95% of CEOs with MBAs. He has a golden goose with those 55 year olds on duck pills. He’s nearing retirement. What could possibly possess him to expand it into an empire? Mike Ehrmantraut’s last words to Walter White come to mind: “we had a good thing, you stupid SOB!”
Highschool gyms simply don't weigh enough.

If you can get the kids doing the main lifts consistently you’ve done something right! These kids today want abs and will not eat to gain strength!
A teenage male should weigh at least 300lbs
1:27 my school ran starting strength method for weights, in Arizona. I think it was the teacher/ coach’s decision.
We have two racks in a Starting Strength inspired gym setup at Next School, India! :)
Only 2 racks. No machines. 😂

1) Kids think training makes you bigger, which is false.
2) I never realized in high school you'd have to eat more to get bigger.
Training and eating in a calorie surplus make you bigger. Eating more by itself just makes you fat

Well, just because you didn't realize it, it doesn't mean HS athletes in general don't.
Maybe you were not so bright.
Looks like Rusty forgot to upload Fridee’s podcast. It’s Fridee, Rusty. Where is it? #takerustysmic
My high school had us all doing bench deadlifts and power cleans. We all got crazy strong. I was in the 1200+ club by my junior year. Good times.
Yeah my son's basketball team is doing squat bench deadlift and cleans.
Anybody else not seeing this latest episode on Spotify?
My hs only had Universal machines, not barbells. I got strong lifting barbells on my own.
Why isn't Rippletits anywhere near an elite strength athlete or a person with sub-30 BMI?
guys I'm 6'4 and 160lbs any thoughts?
Food??
Ya know, in the long list of videos. I don’t think Rip discuses this once..
Eat pasta , chicken , steak , eggs , lift heavy in the core lifts for a few months to break your body in , then Starting Strength 💪
