- Dandora is an Estate in Kenya's capital and largest city, Nairobi. It is part of the Embakasi division. Surrounding neighbourhoods including slums such Kariobangi, Baba Dogo, Gitare Marigo and Korogocho. Dandora was established in 1977, with partial financing by the World Bank in order to offer a higher standard of housing.
The location is in part well known for being the site of the main municipal solid waste dump for Nairobi, which has significant negative health effects on its population. Neighbouring are Kayole, Korogocho, Mathare and Kariobangi.
Besides the health risks that emerge due to waste, more hazards are apparent. As mentioned, crime rates are high and in some parts of the waste dump, police do not keep watch. Another risk can be seen in food insecurity. Because of a lack of proper food, people search for food in the waste.

D was my hood kama between 1989 and 1999.... in phase 4 around Awendo Area I went to wangu primo then Moyo primo then high school ilikuwa machakos District. Aki I had started joining hood boys, drinking chwara few times but Lucky enough I did not turn out to be a dingo... I worked hard and achieved everything that I wanted.... now niko Majuu coz of God. I believe I can be an example to all lads in Dandora.... udingo is not the way forward joo.

D has changed a lot it's no longer "the most dangerous ghetto" police are everywhere doing a great job,nowadays we even walk with our phones on our hands,maybe chuom kadhaa ndio kubaya but I can't compare the D I grew up in to how it is now.

Dandora is highly misconceived. Security issues remain an issue, dumping site is also an inevitable issue. But kindly show the entirety of the place. Enda sharpconer and see people driving in with their vehicles to their own built houses.
And businesses thriving.
Vijana are going out of their ways to make sure they change the status quo (if i may call it that).
The place is also quite developed for a ghetto. Dandora is not ghetto. Its a division, an estate (because it is organised as such).
Did you notice the difference when you crossed from babadogo?. You suddenly start seeing buildings za mawe and not matope. Then the cabro.
People were looking at you because you were filming.

Well, you haven't gone to other phases, I was born and grew up in dandora. So siona kama it's a dangerous place venye unasema. You've only gone to phase 4. What about other phases. Esp phase 3,and phase 5?

Thank God I made out of Korogocho, I lived ther for seven year now am in South B. Education and online business help me. We lived kwa nyumba ya mabati hapo tumaini paying rent of 800 per month, electricity was free. One day when am so successful I will encourage people help them out.
Many youth there relay on waste recycling jobs at the dumbsite, other slaughter houses, others crime is the only way out. I have seen guns alot of guns.
I've never been there but wueh, looks scary.
