    I just wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for all the incredible content you’ve been producing. As an IT professional, it’s not often that you come across someone who not only has unmatched technical expertise but also has the ability to explain complex concepts in such a clear and approachable way.
    Your videos have been invaluable in helping me and so many others grasp difficult topics within Active Directory, networking, and IT systems management. The depth of your knowledge and your teaching style have set a new standard for IT instructors on this platform. It’s evident that you don’t just understand the theory; you also have real-world, hands-on experience, which is something that’s so hard to find.
    I particularly appreciate how you break down intricate subjects with such clarity, making them accessible even to beginners, while still providing enough depth for more advanced learners. Your passion for IT and teaching really shines through in every tutorial. It’s not just about the technical details - it’s about how you make them stick. And trust me, as someone who’s gone through many online courses and tutorials, your ability to make such complex topics feel easy to understand is truly a gift.
    Your consistent dedication to sharing knowledge and elevating the IT community is something I deeply respect. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into each video. You’ve not only helped me level up my skills, but you’ve also inspired a lot of others, including myself, to keep pushing forward and striving for excellence in IT.
    I can’t wait to see what’s next on your channel. Keep doing what you do - you are making a real difference in this space!

    What if you dont have forwarders? Is it necesarry to have them?

    • @danny_moran
      @danny_moran  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't setup DNS forwarders, then you won't be able to resolve internet addresses. Just use a public DNS forwarder like in the guide.

    Hey, I have a question about 2:14 - I don't have a domain available so I've used the "name.domain" option, which doesn't seem to work for I'm trying to do (configure a deployment server running inside a VPN at work).
    Basically I've configured the deployment server, I have a boot image ready in Windows Deployment Services but after I boot a new machine (laptop) via PXE and connect to the Deployment server, after a few seconds of "loading files" it fails with "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed".
    Considering that both the deployment server and the new machine I want to deploy to are running inside a private VPN with DHCP addresses, why do they fail to connect? I've followed your other tutorials with great success (configuring the deployment server) but I'm stuck now at the actual deployment step.
    Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks a lot for the videos!

      I've never seen that error before. If you do an internet search for the error message, there look to be a couple of pages with a possible solution to get it working.

    • @danny_moran
      @danny_moran  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, it's likely fine. It depends on whether the services are used. Also, some services have a delayed start or will only start when they are needed, so they will fix themselves if required.

    • @danny_moran
      @danny_moran  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you would need to enable the required inbound ports on the SQL server and also enable the TCP/IP for SQL. You should be able to find guides online covering how to do this.

    Does the domain controller need to be on same network/subnet as the computers?

    • @danny_moran
      @danny_moran  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, the domain controller can be on a different network or subnet to the computers. As long as there is routing between the networks and computers can communicate with the domain controllers, then it will work.

    I am working on a home lab and setting up windows server with Active Directory enabled. I have a question in regards to dns, how do I determine which dns to use on my server?
    A little background on my network at home.
    My isp is Xfinity
    I have a ubiquiti UDM router
    I have a ubiquiti pro switch Poe
    I want to keep my UDM as the dhcp server, so do I use that dns address of my isp dns?

    • @danny_moran
      @danny_moran  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      In an Active Directory environment, you really want to be using your domain controllers for providing DNS to your local clients. You then setup DNS forwarders on the DNS server so that if the local DNS server can't resolve the hostname, the query gets forwarded to a public DNS server.
      For the public DNS server, you can either use your ISP's DNS server or one from a different provider, such as Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), or Google (8.8.8.8).
      I set up DHCP so that it distributes the IP address of a domain controller for the client DNS server.
      Basically, you want every client on your network to use a local domain controller to resolve their DNS. If the local DNS server can't resolve the hostname, then it forwards to request to a public DNS server.
      Thanks for watching, Ray.

    Do you have a tutorial on how to make active directory that is not local? Server is hosted on a vps and computers will be connecting to it without using vpns.

    • @danny_moran
      @danny_moran  ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to be using a VPN to connect to the VPN environment. Either a site to site VPN from the office location(s) to the VPS, or a VPN from the client(s) to the VPS.

      To install Active Directory, you need to use Windows Server.
      You can't upgrade a Windows desktop operating system to a Windows Server operating system.
      You can download the Windows Server evaluation version here: www.microsoft.com/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-server-2022
