  • Krik of Black Owl Outdoors shows you how to tie the Marlin Spike Hitch. Popular among those who chose a hammock over a tent, the Marlin Spike Hitch, with the use of a toggle, can be use to attach a hammock to a tree; as well as put a handle in a length of cordage.

This would work good for snow anchors!

Great to use with paracord to get your Bergan/backpack off the floor.

Brilliant knot, well filmed, solid tutorial. Kudos!
Felt like a real idiot for not yet knowing this knot, so I literally went out into the backyard, whittled a hazel-wood spike, ran back inside, and tied my very first Marlin Spike Hitch to a doorknob.
    Keep up the good work.

Man this was helpful! Thanks for making. Also I love my field journal and axe loop I got from your etsy store. Thanks for the personal note.

Plenty of uses for this too. My favorite is hanging my ruck to keep it off the ground. Nice video, as always, thanks.

Another great video Krik. I can't believe I've been a Boy Scout or Boy Scout leader for most of my life and I've never even seen or heard of a Marlin Spike Hitch. It is now officially my "hang my pack on a tree" knot. Thanks.
Also, just wanted to say I really appreciate to high production value of your videos. I know it takes some effort to get the kind of end results you do. Great logo too.

Now that's a crazy useful knot. The first thing I thought of was hanging a pack or gear from it. Wow!
Also, keep up the awesome videos. If that's your brother doing the camera work, tell him it's top notch. The editing, too. Awesome work! You got a subscriber here.

I personally prefer polyester straps bc they don't stretch as bad as nylon but that's just a suggestion

Sorry to burst your bubble but the marlin spike hitch is just a modified version of a slip knot with a stick through it

Yup, but it's still a Marlin Spike Hitch, an it is put to a different use than the slip knot. Just like a sheet bend is a bowline without a loop, but two different cords and a beckett hitch is the same sheet bend formation but tied in an eye/loop. All these thee are similar, but have different names and different uses.
