As Mumbo would say, "It's quite simple, really" This is such a cool animation. Tango looks cartoony and squishy. I love it. The movement is very energetic and smooth. It's really satisfying. And his explanation paired with your art creates a great learning material
The first week of December, I will be teaching binary. This is not unlike my own lecture in previous years. I just do it more slowly, because there are a lot of "layman does not understand" pitfalls I try to cover over. You know you're teaching binary when someone writes 5 as "401" or "320" or "1 1"
Shortly after watching this video, I came across the number 1001011 and decided to test my knowledge. I added 1 + 2 + 8 + 64, it equalled 75, then I looked up "1001011 binary" and I was correct!
You can take it a step further if you want to learn to decode text that’s written in binary. If an 8 bit binary number starts with “010” (uppercase) or “011” (lowercase), it’s probably a letter. All you have to do is look at the other 5 bits, figure out what number it is, then take that letter in the alphabet. For example, 01000011 is “C” because 00011 is 3, and C is the 3rd letter of the alphabet. Because the number started with “010”, we know it’s capital C. If it had started with “011” instead, it would be lowercase c. It’s also worth knowing that “00100000” is a space. Anything else you encounter is probably punctuation.
I got close to understanding tango in the original video but these visuals have really sealed it in. never thought I would understand this stuff. also the way you draw expressions and movements are so lifelike!
I'm actively in a college class teaching binary... this is easily 100x easier to understand than my 2 weeks worth of lectures 😂. Tango's a great teacher and you're an amazing artist
I'll always remember what I saw in a post once: "There are 10 types of people: Those who understand binary and those who don't." And the comment section full of people asking: "What are the other eight???"
@@shidqy0003100 in binary is 8… 😂😂 cairozephyr was keeping the joke going 😜 :edit: the “they” in cairozephyr’s reply was referring to the comment section, just to clarify

Can’t believe a hermitcraft animatic less than three minutes long just actually taught me to read binary what the heck lol Also artistically! I love your tango design and all his little tango movements 😊
A good thing to understand here is that it's the same as decimal really - decimal just uses powers of ten instead. "123" in decimal is 1×100 + 2×10 + 3×1, like how "110" in binary is 1×4 + 1×2 + 0×1
And you can do this for any whole number greater than or equal to 2. We call this base n, where n is said number. you need n different symbols, from 0 to n-1, and each place is a different power of n. You can also extend this to show non-whole numbers as well, and that's also analogous to how it's done in decimal. After the point, each place is negative powers of ten, or n for base n. so 101.0101 in binary would be 5 and 5/16. You can also do fractions that repeat instead of ending, but I don't have any way to overline or underline here to denote that.
@@dinalijayasuriya3196 binary is also base 10. As is hex, dozenal, seximal, phinary, negaquinary, balanced ternary, or literally any base. If you write “10” in a base, it means exactly that base. So when referring to a base, it’s not very useful to say things like “base 14”, since you need to also specify which base the “14” itself is in. Is “14” ten in seximal? Fourteen in decimal? Nine in quinary? Dozen-four in dozenal? A coder’s dozen and four in hex? So it’s better to call a base “vigesimal”, “bidozenal”, “biker’s dozenal”, instead of writing “base 20”, “base 24”, “base 26” in an arbitrary base like decimal. When talking about other bases, it’s important to eliminate your decimal-centric biases, so treating decimal as the implied base is counter-productive.
