this album proves her predebut monicker as the “2nd Taeyeon” not only because she sang most of the demos on Taeyeon’s osts but also because at some part, her belts kinda sounds like Taeyeon’s. im in no way saying that seulgi is taeyeon’s shadow, i just remember her predebut days. im very proud of seulgi, the woman that she is now, she deserves all the love and support she have been receiving! a well deserved seulo i must say 💛

I'm not even a huge red velvet stan, just a casual listener, but I think I can confidently say that this is my favourite kpop album of this year so far. Even though there have been a ton of other albums that I fucking love (Key??!! Come on! NCT 127?????), this one is immaculate. It has exactly the kind of consistent theme and atmosphere that I sometimes miss with kpop albums, but without turning it into a corny concept album.
Dead man running and Crown are so fucking incredible, I don't even know what to say. I also think that the album has actually good lyrics throughout every song and while that's usually not hugely important to me, it is very much appreciated.
I really liked the MV and album was so good too. Red Velvet never disappoints 😍😭🫶🏻

"Bad boy, sad girl" is more a kind of kr&b style of song, and probably that is why Be'o featured there. He is the third finalist of last year's show me the money 10 (a very famous rap competition), he became famous during the show because his amazing melodic rap and his singing voice. Everyone was obsessed with his song "counting stars" (svt seungkwang loves it i think... jsjsjs there is a clip where he got so excited recognicing be'os face on a game and started singing it).

As always City Pop to me is just >>>>> So 'Anywhere But Home' is on repet at my playlist. And the adlibs reminds me of 'In My Dreams' for some reason. Also, 'Los Angeles' chorus kind of gave me some The Weeknd's 'Dawn FM' vibes , so a Collab between her, Abel and Kai would be perfect. I love 'Dead Man Runin', it such has powerful beat and the instrumental gave me goosebumps. Bad Boy, Good Girl to me was surprisingly soft, I loved the the featuring, he is new to me so Im gonna look into him some time later.
Look. This may or not make sense but I'm getting all these different soloist vibes from Seulgi. Like 28 reasons gives a Chunga vibe, dead man running gives a Ailee vibe and so on. It's like these songs could be for other soloists but none of them could pull it off like Seulgi. I can't explain it. It's just Soloist Seulgi is a whole other level... Ugh I can't put it into proper words..but I love the album and I love Seulgi.

Personally, the evaluation of this album is complex. RED VELVET's previous attempts are dominated by genius production. The vocal abilities of the members made it possible and Seulgi played a key role in it.
This album is focused on Seulgi's vocals, taking away those attempts. They emphasize the power of destructive vocals by putting multiple layers on Seulgi's vocals in an easy-to-listen production, or by sending through the band pass filter or overdrive.
I think it's cool that this album is based on their strong confidence. But even though it's an attempt to approach the essence of vocalist Seulgi, it doesn't meet the fantastic variations we've been expecting from Red Velvet.
It is a good gift for those who admired "Singer Seulgi" itself, but those who expected "Red Velvet" will be sorry.
Why would they expected the "Red Velvet" in her solo song?? Why would they'll be sorry?? I don't get it. Of course it's definitely all about her colour as a vocalist as a dancer as a performer as an artist, she gave her ideas, her vision, her creativity to this album so this will be different from group project. Just like wendy & joy solo. They're perfect as group, they complement each other in terms of vocal, dancing, creativity even personality. But they are just as perfect as individually too with their own colour & advantages.
