    Hi
    I just found you, and I have the first level of the master knitter's course. I have started writing the swatch and working on the beginner swatch, after seeing you I will stop procrastinating and get busy to pass the first level. Thanks

    I’ve always dreamed of completing the Master Knitter Program but figured I’d likely never be a “good enough” knitter to be able to pull it off. But as you’ve described it, I think the program would actually be something I would really enjoy and likely have the skills necessary to complete! I learned to knit when I was 7, but started really seriously knitting my own garments 20 years ago and have been obsessed with knitting since. I’ve designed and knit my own patterns several times, have very even tension, and great finishing skills. I also have managed to collect a library of nearly 1000 knitting books and magazines; so the research, book reviews, and bibliography would actually be kinda fun for me. The only skills I haven’t got under my belt are brioche and double knitting-not because I haven’t wanted to try them, but because I live in a warmer climate where those thicker fabrics would be far too warm to wear. But I have many books on the subjects, and know how to do them theoretically, so I’d just have to actually knit them. Everything you described sounds like something I have already achieved, or could achieve, while enjoying the process. Thank you so much for explaining so clearly what the Master Knitter Program involves and taking the mystery and intimidation out of it. I think I may just have to start the program this year 😊

      Hi!! I'm so glad I could take the intimidation away!! It sounds very much like it would be right up your alley, and I bet you would do well with it - I say go for it! It did so much to deepen my appreciation of the craft, and deepen my knowledge, and improve my skills, and helped to make me realize how much I didn't know - there's always more to learn!! The double knitting and brioche come in Level 3, and are small swatches, so it's not too intimidating. Every knitter has one (or more!) swatches that are the bane of their journey - mine was the Bavarian Twisted swatch in Level 3 and the argyle sock in Level 2. But the frustrating items are learning opportunities too.
      I wish you all the best in your knitting journey, and I'm happy to answer questions if you have any! Happy knitting!!

      Best of luck to you if you decide to pursue it!! Doing the PKC would definitely be a help in working through the MHK, I think - you know your knitting is up to snuff, and you've covered a lot of the basic skills (as well as some of the advanced ones) that are covered in MHK. You'll just need to add in the research/references part, and the writing (and design/pattern writing). But you're used to having your work critiqued, and likely have fine-tuned any tension issues!

      @@HeatherStorta I am still overwhelmed at the prospect of designing in module 3. I am assuming module 1 and 2 would teach me this skill?

    • @HeatherStorta
      @HeatherStorta  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you get eased into designing with Levels 1 and 2. And by Level 3 you should know how to research to figure out a path forward for your hat and sweater! And you only have to design the sweater to fit you, not grade it to multiple sizes or anything like that. :-)

    What level of knitting should I have to start this program? And do you recommend taking other courses previos to the master knitting one? Thanks

    • @HeatherStorta
      @HeatherStorta  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my opinion, you should be pretty comfortable with basic knitting (stockinette, garter, basic increases and decreases), but you could be an adventurous beginner! If you want to see if your work is "up to snuff" and see what the review process is like, you could sign up for TKGA's "Basics, Basics, Basics" course -- this course is mentored by Arenda Holladay, and you send smaller bunches of swatches to her in stages, not everything all at once - and you get immediate feedback from Arenda. That way you can get used to someone critiquing your knitting, as well as see where you might need to improve before beginning with Level 1 of the MHK program.

    I have thought so many times about doing the Master Hand Knitter Certification and just never quite get going. I know I am a good knitter and also know there is still much to learn! I have thought serveral times that this is something I should have started when the Pandemic Lockdown began...gosh I was home so much...so much wasted time.

    • @HeatherStorta
      @HeatherStorta  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's never too late to start! (And you shouldn't beat yourself up about "shoulda" during the pandemic lockdown -- it was so life-disrupting that just existing during it was enough work!)

    I have dreamed of completing this since I was in high school. This might finally be the year, though I admit I am intimidated by the prowess of the master knitters who have gone on before me.

    • @HeatherStorta
      @HeatherStorta  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No need to be intimidated! We all started where you're starting from - it just takes patience, the desire to learn and improve, dedicated work, and the ability to handle constructive criticism (which is given gently and with lots of advice - all the Co-Chairs want you to succeed!) If this is the year for you -- best of luck! I'll be cheering from the sidelines!

    I am self-taught and seeking a school that teaches but this seems like a course to demonstrate the skills you already have. Is that accurate and do you know of a true hood school for those who seek to learn more?

    • @HeatherStorta
      @HeatherStorta  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's an accurate assessment - this certification program relies on the knitter to research and learn the techniques on their own, and then demonstrate the skills with each level's submission. It's more of a self-study program. I personally don't really know of a a true "school" that teaches knitting mastery, but I have to think there are some somewhere - perhaps other viewers might have some ideas. I know there are some colleges and universities that offer textile degrees -- that might be worth looking into.
      The other option is fiber festivals, retreats, and conferences that offer knitting classes, and places like the John C Campbell Folk School in NC that offers more in depth classes covering a wide range of hand crafts and art forms - I know they offer knitting courses on a pretty regular basis.

    Enjoyed the video, great info. Just a suggestion to stop editing so that every sentence you say sounds/looks like a new "take". It's a bit unsettling and anxiety-inducing. Sorry, but I'm not sure what effect this is meant to have because you're very articulate and you don't stumble when you speak…so why all the "takes"?

    • @HeatherStorta
      @HeatherStorta  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh Nadia, I'm so sorry it's anxiety inducing!! I don't want that at all. I don't do it for effect, but more because I tend to pause quite a bit when I speak (even when I have a script), so for my videos I want them to be as short as possible and I edit out the pauses. Some videos are "worse" than others in this respect, and I think this was one of the more egregious examples. I recognize that it's an issue and I have been working on improving (less pauses mean easier and quicker editing for me!) but it's still a work in progress. My recording schedule is about 2 months ahead, so you might not see an improvement in my videos right away, but know that I am working on improving -- and that I take your suggestion to heart!! I'm so happy to have you here and I hope you stay!!

    I became a TKGA member in April of 2022. When browsing through all that was afforded to members, the courses were of interest right off the bat. Then I read on and saw the Master Knitter Certification program. TBH I was like wow, just wow 😮 I was apprehensive at first but I felt something inside of me saying that I needed to do this program.
    I told myself then that I was going to enroll and just go for it. I had to wait until my mindset was 💯 ready to be fully present. But I knew I was going to do. 😉
    So I am happy to share that I enrolled in the program in November 2022. I’m excited!
    I have completed studying the course guidelines because there is a lot of details and I didn’t want to miss something when submitting my work.
    My goal is to have everything submitted by July 2023. That gives me plenty of time not to rush and make sure things are done with precision and excellence.
    Thank you for this video. It was very useful and I feel even more empowered to learn, commit and complete the entire journey to become a recognized Master Knitter. 🧶
