And so it is time for Blizzard's annual StarCraft Tournament where the Koreans rape the foreigners. For the Koreans we have Bisu(P), Nal_rA(P), NaDa(T), and sAviOr(Z). Note that this is not a popularity contest and the players were chosen on skill, which is why Reach was not chosen despite his recent display of good matches. And for the foreigners we have Testie(R), Draco(P), Sen(P), and PJ(P). The first round kicks off with a Bo3 matchup, with each Korean facing a foreigner. Will any foreigner make it past the first round? Time to find out.

The announcers address the fact that Testie normally plays Random. He actually chose Protoss for both matches. He did not go random for either fight. Bisu also knew this before the match and was able to prepare for a protoss opponent instead of random.
starcraft is a well-designed strategy game and it became a popular activity to them; it is as skillful as chess, it is as entertaining as singing and dancing, and it is as fascinated as soccer/basketball.
Agreed. The camera needs to be able to zoom far out, and players should have total control over the angles (like Myth).

I agree with you, I like watching spectator sports but the hype both in sc and normals sports are a bit over the edge :P
I hope the whole wc engine gets pitched for sc2.
Sc2 needs to be as dark, tight and precise as the first one. And have the screen zoomed out more like sc where macro was a huge issue unlike in wc3 wher eteh screen was all zoomed in

thats not what the announcer said;; they said that Bisu felt better because he plays better against protoss and he didnt practice a lot

i don't get why ppl complain about koreans making money out of starcraft.
How does being a progamer different from being a waiter/waitress? computer application programmer?
The way I see it: they make way better money than any of part-time job(lots of full-time job too); they work easier than being farmers/truck drivers/computer programmers; they enjoy it; it brings people joy; it contributes the korean society.
no we koreans dont play it 24/7 and neither do they play it like a sport... we do play it more than any other game probably, but no one really thinks of it as a sport, despite enjoying watching them.

agreed very few were original and lifting to play in a competition ... only other ive seen that could have been a good competition game thats also as old is starsiege although it would be more for a team based too bad lots of in house fighting and stealing of it tech to enhance other games stunted it growth. So glad starcraft didnt suffer this fate.

That is actually a very good point, and i agree , so i take back about what i said, concerning the money part, even though it is still a bit abstract to me. But on the other the hand the crows that gather and the hype it gets, seems a bit superficial. I mean i LOVEE Sc, its my all time favorite game, but i don't get how it gets so much hype from civilian people (non-gamers)

rushing is really really risky and bisu won't fast expand if he can't block. and if he blocks using forge and gate, then rushing don't do jack.
But i would argue ti is definetly slightly more commendable and respectable than a kid who playes a computer game arround the clock, not to mention at the age of 25+.

Age of Empire, Rise of nations, rise of legends, dark crusade, warcraft, etc. In Fifa, korea used to 100% dominate though not any more. Get your fact straight. As a sole ethnic group, Koreans dominate in most number of games.

They PLAY COMPUTER-GAMES for MONEY, that seems nothing wrong with me. They are much better than those who can't get money legally.
It's entertainment. If you feel that these people should not be getting the money they get for professionally playing video games to entertain the crowds, then you should feel the same way about sport athletes. Don't give me crap on sports being good while computer games are bad- both require a level of skill, the former relying more on physical power and steroids, the latter on cognitive processing and strategy.

I never defended professional athletes on an intellectual level, or what their quality is as people. I am just arguing that playing a game that was made for ENTERTAINMENT, professionally and getting paid the money they do seems silly. I love starcraft personally. And to assume professional atheletes are stupid is a fallacy, so please look into that before talking. Last but not least, it takes a lifetime of training, perseverence and somewhat natural skill. I don't idolise them.

Your "theory" does not explain why china, with population of 1.2 billion, sucks as compared to korea with population of 50 million.
In terms of play time, I don't think it makes lots of difference in the top-class level.
Of course i don't believe in gene theory or something like that. I think it is because koreans culturally have strong desire for winning against others. (reason why online game is so popular in korea whereas offline video games are more popular world wide)
First of all their life styles are none of our business, we are discussing professional atheletes. THey can do whatever they want with their life as long as it does not affect their performance. What i find commendable is their athetlic achievements and skill, not their lifestyles. Second of all what you have seen in high school and what you stated is practically a stereotype. For the most part "jocks" never become professional athletes because they don't have the discipline nor the talent.

Athene had someone else play his character to rank1 in every bracket, he got someone else to play SC2 with his name and LOL is a game in which you can do well by picking a carry with no more as 4 buttons. Athene has done many great things with his efame but he is not a professional player, lol.
