I have my 84 VF500F sitting in my garage. I'm the original owner. Haven't heard it run in 20 years. Hearing yours reminded me of how it sounds & made me smile. It was like hearing the familiar voice of someone that you love.
I encourage you to get it running! I bought an '86 years ago & let it sit far too long. Just got it running & riding again. I forgot how throaty that V4 sounds!
Hell yea man! Getting my 2000 civic coupe fixed up and show ready, then moving to my 1999 Suzuki GSF 600 to cafe racer project intermittently through nursing school for the next two years. Keep up the great work dude and am thankful to have discovered your channel!
Out of the many bikes I've owned, my VF500 was one of my favorites. A friend of mine actually won it in a raffle and gave it to me for a song price. I was 25 and weighed in around 145 lbs. Perfect match for my diminutive weight. Also the first bike I ever went over 100mph on! Feet on the rear pegs and chest on the tank. Fun fun!
Book states to use 2 feeler gauges at the same time on adjacent valves along with camshaft lifter tool ('84 & '85) to set lash. Ref. pg. 3-9 of the s/m. Did you torque those valve cover bolts to spec? Important step. Idle spec is 1300 rpm. Kudos for undertaking that engine swap & for keeping a special classic bike on the road.
@@twowheelpursuits I'm looking forward to getting mine back on the road this year, the petcock valve is leaking internally and externally. So bueno. Gotta finish up my civic project first tho
Im in the uk and presently doing an 84 v30 magna. Its almost identical as far as the motor goes. Having seen your vids i am going to set the tappets. Hope it sounds as good as yours.
Yeah I gotta get off my ass and do mine , i have a parts bike too , thanks for the boot in the ass , they're really pleasent bikes to ride , bought mine 30 years ago ,bravo
It sounds amazing. Well done, mate. A few questions… Do you have a link for those LED indicators that you have installed? Which ones are those? My indicators are falling apart and I need new ones. What exhaust are you running? It really sounds amazing. And lastly, do you have a blog or anywhere I can find out more about all the mods you’ve done to your VF500?

Did you have any issues with spark and the CDI boxes? I have an 85 as well and can’t getting running properly. I gone over fuel, carbs, spark plugs. Still misses and won’t run properly.
It’s all the time. It got progressively worse over time. I’m hesitant to purchase used CDI boxes on eBay with the chance of them failing as well. I found a company in the Netherlands that manufactures new ones but they’re expensive. Approx $425 shipped.
Unlikely I’ll get a response but what is the inner reservoir that looks like a coolant reservoir for, made the mistake of trying to flush it along with the rest of my coolant system and ended up filling my carbs and cylinders with water. There was no harm done as I was doing an oil change and full tune up but any insight would be appreciated. At first glance the reservoir looked like it was related too the coolant system as it was very similar in design but clearly I made a mistake. Iv tried to find an explanation online but iv had little success. Any input is appreciated 🤙
I have a 84 magna v30 500 same engine different frame but my bike uses dual gas tanks and one is under the seat next to the coolant reservoir tank this sounds like it may be what you’re dealing with. Honda did weird things
