  • Will the fish bite my tiny fiddler crabs? We target sheepshead fish down in the Fort Walton and Destin Florida area. The weather wasn't the greatest but we did find some fiddler crabs and dug them up on the beach. Question is, CAN WE CATCH ANYTHING?

    Couple comments - Love your videos been to most areas you are filming in and it brings back memories - I have caught 1000's of Sheepshead but very rarely on crabs - use shrimp - second comment dont use dog food use cat food in your traps - again love your videos God Bless and have great day

    Reminds me of working on my one legged WW2 veteran brother in laws 17ft shrimp boat in the 70s. We were both learning together and we killed it catching bait shrimp on the Galveston bay. Everything like eating sardines and crackers never with scrambled eggs though even that song took me back thanks!

    Right where you put your first crab trap is a small sunken skif (what we used to call a row boat growing up). Also, that flat just to the west of the Liza Jackson boat ramp (between the boat ramp and the first island) will almost always hold trout. I like to fish between 3.5 and 4.5 feet of water and look for sand potholes (although this time of year the grass is mostly gone). Love seeing you in my back yard and fishing holes!

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wondering what that was down there? Next time I need to jump out and snorkel right there at that little skiff. Might need to try that grass flat as well, thanks for the suggestion.

    Man, you've got to grab yourself an old-timer guide ONE TIME, get him to show you some of the ropes! :D IAs much as I enjoy this trial-and-error approach, life doesn't have to be that hard if you know a little bit more about what you're doing! Love from Canada!

    Up north we would crab with bunker. Down here it's called Menhaden. It's a very oily fish. Use them whole or cut them in half and load your bait box up. Also ditch the dog food. You want tuna in oil. Anything fishy. Canned cat good works great too. Trial and error I guess. But i can vouch for the bunker and tuna. Best of luck and as always great video.

      Yes, spearfishing is something I would like to try. I'm pretty sure spearfishing around the jetties isn't allowed unless you are way away from the land. Seems like you have to be several hundred yards out from the beach on a jetty before it's legal.

    I would use a smaller hook, try an egg hook when using the crab and lighter line ( as light as 2lb. test) and a lighter weight. The fish around piling are very wary. Lower your line down and keep it very still. Try and hook the crab up so it is still alive and wiggling its legs. Better luck next time! The music is an excellent touch ! What is your best gallons per hr. fuel consumption with the 115? Thanks for another great vid!

    You really need to wait down your crab traps and the entrances need to be facing the way that the tide goes in and out because along with everything else the crabs move with the tide also so if you're entrances are facing with the outgoing and incoming tide you're going to catch more crab

    Canoe guy said he came down through New Orleans, but there isn't an Intracoastal between New Orleans and Gulf Shores either. Seems like if he already did 150 miles without the ICW, it'd be a shame to turn around because of another 200 without it. I'm guessing he might be more worried about lack of civilization/towns with places to stop along the way? The Big Bend marshes are relatively calm waters compared to elsewhere.

    You'll never do it..... but you'll never stop thanking me if you do.
    Remove those worthless bow rails. Maybe, and I do mean MAYBE, replace them with a custom rail that follows the raised "half circle" on the bow. Finally, and MOST importantly, get a 24 volt trolling motor. Use it.....To get your traps with pinpoint control. To set the anchor. To move down a grassline casting artificial lures. To maneuver in and out of the boat ramp and marinas. To scout shallow water. To get to a safe shore if your main motor fails. Turn that boat into a FLATS BOAT hunting reds, flounder and trout....

      I used chicken legs last time and I was able to catch a few, I do have some chicken necks in the freezer now ready for the next go around. Thanks for the comment!

    Why do you never put up your antenna? Your VHF radio would work a whole lot better with the antenna up then laying down.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes I do.... Most of the time I'm not really using my antenna. This video I was never far from the high traffic areas really

    Can you Take the kayak one time then make a
    Boat and kayak camping 😬 just saying

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I might could do that. I will have to figure out a good way to strap it to the boat or something. The inflatable is softer and much lighter than a kayak so it makes sense to bring it along instead of a kayak.

    Trip I know you haven't asked for, nor do you need any advice. I enjoy your videos but some feedback FWIW. Some are just simply too long. I have a number of people I have subscribed to, but with varied interests and limited time, when a new one pops up and it's much over 10 minutes I usually just scroll on. I'm much more likely to watch two 10 minute videos than one 20 minute video, I know, crazy, and maybe that's just me so do what works for you. 🙂

      Greg I appreciate the advice, really I do. I need to try and figure a way out to make some shorter form content but that is still some sort of adventure. Thanks for the heads up and putting that thought back on my radar!

      @@TripSmith No problem & please take it in the spirit it is offered. I've watched and very much enjoyed many of your videos, particularly with the Gheenoe. Ended up buying one myself & yes, you had an impact on that decision. Now you've gone and bought this Dory and I think, "Hey, that's pretty spacious, even luxurious, especially compared to a Gheenoe." I hear my wife already, "no, No, NO!" Lol! Keep getting out there and 'em coming !
