    Shopping for glassware at a thriftstore is thr single most underrated tip i realized early on when making tea, summer drinks and then eventually cocktails.
    Why pay $3-6/glass when your chances of finding the exact same thing at Goodwill at $1.25 are extremely high 😅

    As an alternative to joulip strainers look for a hawthorn strainer that goes in your mixing glass and Boston shaker twin tins. That one opens the possibility of throwing cocktails as well. You distinct it by having a lip on the handle similar to joulip strainers, and the spring going fully around the circumference, because ice. Also it goes into a stiring glass easy.
    Throwing cocktails is a good technique for lightly aerating the cocktail while also cooling it, you mainly see it with clarified juices, shrubs, cordials used in drinks.

    Hey Anders! Another awesome video! Quick question for you, are you ever going to release individual prints for sale? Or perhaps a mix&match bundle where you select the 4 prints that you want one by one? I think it would be pretty cool to be able to mix and match your favourite cocktails that you’ve learned from this channel, or perhaps if you don’t have the wall space/funds for a 4-pack then perhaps just pick up 1 or 2 prints.
    Once again, awesome video, and your content is the genuine reason I got so passionate about bartending. Keep it up man, you’re doing a great thing.

    Love your channel, and I've learned a lot. Regarding pairings, it would be awesome if you did a segment on pairing liqueurs and spirits. I'm prompted to ask because I got a liqueur for Christmas, "Flora Green" by Accompani Liqueur out of Portland Oregon, and I am trying to create something with it...but don't know what, or even how to go about putting things together. Its taste reminds me of Chartreuse, but not really, but sorta, kinda, maybe? I could start pouring things together and see what happens, and that could be fun, but I really have no knowledge to base pairings on. Anyway, that's all. A segment on mixology would be great! On with the show!

    On the subject of wines. You can absolutely get great bargains from a wine package. But I prefer to get a cheap bulk wine that I like and then get a couple of good quality bottles at about $25-35. Bulk wine is for the occasional glas in from of the TV or just for a glas in company of good friends. Expensive bottles are for the time you want to spoil yourself and/or your guests and you pair them with food. But on the collab with bright cellars, absolutely get the 12 bottle bundle. Cause you never know what is you next favourite wine until you tried it.

    I've picked up some really neat glassware at thrift stores, flea markets, and even garage sales.
    You have to be careful with antique crystal to make sure there isn't lead.

    • @jimklemens5018
      @jimklemens5018 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Why are you concerned about lead?

    • @christianoliver3572
      @christianoliver3572 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@jimklemens5018 Antique crystal was made using lead.
      It's often called leaded crystal and it still has some uses today for example in cigar ashtrays.
      Very well made leaded antique leaded crystal was safe when it was made.
      It was made in Europe well into the 20th century, and would still be safe to use today if it weren't for the modern dishwasher.
      Most soap for dishwashers used to be in a powdered form that would act as a scouring powder.
      Over time this would cause microscopic scratches that would degrade the crystal and cause it to leach lead especially into acidic liquids.
      Since there's really no way to know if this has happened I only buy more modern crystal or I use the leaded crystal for decoration only.

    • @jimklemens5018

      @@christianoliver3572 Why would you put nice glassware in a dishwasher?

    • @christianoliver3572
      @christianoliver3572 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jimklemens5018 I never would but in the past it was very common.
      The home dishwasher was a major time saving machine and pretty much everything went into it.
      So it had a tendency to damage what was put into it but it was slow and over a long period of time.
      Folks who had just bought a dishwasher had no idea of what was 'dishwasher safe' so they found out through use.
      Also one of the major selling points of the dishwasher when they first came out was that they sanitized the dishes through heat.
      That was true and in an era before plastics it wasn't generally an issue but heat degraded many cooking vessels as well as utensils and glassware.
      They just didn't know what was going to happen.

Standing behind the bar is sometimes also about entertaining and giving people a good time. You're good at presentung stories amongst others. How about creating a show-off-skills episode i.e. "throwing cocktails", juggeling, spectacular ways to serve the drink and I don'know what else possible..? Just an idea a little on the side and maybe not absolutely your style, but still...? Just for fun?

    Regarding glassware... I'm sure this is incredibly obvious, but FUCK novelty glasses. I had TWO lowball glasses break on me, one with a bullet in the side and a second with a D20. The foreign object creates a weak point in the glass where stirring or temperature shock can cause the glass to break. I didn't notice one had broken until I sliced my finger open washng it. I very nearly ended up drinking broken glass from the other.

    I’m really excited about the prints! Are you the artist? Or were they commissioned from someone?

    Can confirm! Thrift stores turn up some amazing and unique glassware. It's becoming a compulsion. 🙃

    I ordered the Savoy Cocktail book that’s linked in the notes a while back. It’s printed like someone photo copied it out of the real book, kinda crappy IMHO

    Somebody got me a highball which I think is actually a Collins. Is there a difference in size? It doesn't seem to hold much more than my whiskey tumblers from the same company.

    • @AndersErickson
      @AndersErickson  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Generally the Collins glass has a larger capacity, but brands have different standards.My go-to "collins" glass is actually called a highball by the manufacturer.

      @@AndersErickson Ah, thanks Anders. I want something that gives me more than a tumbler so I can have a long drink with more mixer sometimes. But then I'm hardly merry on an ounce or two of whisky with ginger in a tumbler.

      Uh oh. There are a lot of "bitters packs" available that make nice gifts, but for classic cocktails I use Angostura, Peychaud's, and Orange Bitters the most. Shopping saved.

      @@AndersErickson i was half kidding, because there are SO MANY out there, and i'm curious what you prefer. To be honest, those are the three we use the most too. We really got into chocolate mole bitters for certain drinks (lookin' at you, Oaxacan Old Fashioned), and i've been experimenting with cardamom bitters lately, but a little of those goes a looong way.

    Hey Anders, just in case you didn't notice it looks like the Savoy Cocktail book has some pretty antiblack racist caricatures on one of the pages you featured. It probably shouldn't be recommended to buy. It kind of made my heart sink, I really like your videos. I hope you can respond to this.

    WHY do SOOO MANY youtubers link products in description to ONLY amazon!!?? I stopped patronizing Amazon in its entirety 7 years ago and NEVER looked back. For just a small percentage more, I can be assured I am getting quality, NEW, well-packaged, genuine, and unused merchandise!!!!! Case closed. I HATE it when youtubers have ONLY Amazon for shopping for items. I will look around at quality sites, thank you.

    I have YET to see you use the cobbler shaker unless featuring it as an alternative. That said, I have YET to see you use the cobbler shaker for drinks on your channel at any time. You are obsessed with the damn Boston shaker. I ONLY use the cobbler shaker. DONE
