- More than one million customers in and around Houston were still without electricity Wednesday as the region struggles to recover from Beryl. Complicating the situation is the blistering heat that has roiled the region, as residents rush to distribution centers for food, water and ice. Omar Villafranca has the latest.

I have a workmate whose husband works for a power company up here in N-TX. Last week, he was in OK dealing with power outages - then he got the call over the weekend to go to Houston. So he drove 8 hours to your city to help get things up and going. Why am I telling you this? Because his wife got a video from him today of people cussing at him, throwing rocks and bottles at his crew members and having a hissy fit because someone brought these linemen some cold cut sandwiches. Really? Why?
I understand the frustration and the heat, I spent two of the worst years of my life in Houston. I also understand that living on the coast means you better be ready to take care of yourself for a week or so while hard working linemen struggle to get your AC back on.
These men sleep in their trucks because the hotels nearby are filled to capacity. They don't have the option of searching out a cooling station for some respite from the heat. And they don't see their families for weeks on end. So you want to throw things at these men, maybe make one of them lose their balance and fall into one of those power lines. Would that get your lights on faster?
Shame, shame, shame on these folks who are so wrapped up in themselves that they can't find some way to help the others around them, especially the crews that are working 16 hours per day, trying to help Houston. BIG, BIG black eye for some of Houston!!!
I'm sorry to hear about your friend. They should try to understand that those people are in the same boat and trying to help.
My dad is in his 70s and lives there. I haven't been able to reach him for days. I hope they can recover soon in this hundred degree weather. What a mess!
I'm here in houston now, and have been without power since Monday at 5 a.m.
You are right, we should take care of ourselves, and a lot of us do. I have been here all my life. I know especially during this time of year this could happen.
Had a generator in the garage ever since the big freeze a few years back. Just used it for the first time Monday. People had plenty of time to get ready. No excuses why people cannot take care of themselves for a few days or a week. Unacceptable to be treating linemen like that.
I would like to say thank you to your workmates husband and all the linemen out there helping us restore our power.
If I see some linemen at my house they will be offered drinks and snacks because I appreciate what they do for us and every other state. 😉
@@mr.jazzbodkelsey58 what part of town does your dad live?
The blame should be on the Texas governor. People are so dumb.
@@frankt5987 Yep...some politician called for the storm.
This just in...Center Point energy announces huge rate hike is on the way.
Abbott apparently has better things to do.
Energy in Texas is not cheap. Why aren’t they spending money on infrastructure??😮
Texas is such a miserable, toxic place to live. I love aspects of it but I can’t imagine wanting to live there long term
A state as big as Texas is toxic? I'm sure whatever utopia state you live in is such a great place to live and has nothing wrong with it. 🤡
You're right. If I had the money I'd move. Been here since 1980. DON'T move to Houston people if you've never experienced humidity.
I hate it here so much I need to escape
😕
On July 11, it'll be 72 hours without power/ electricity at 4am. It all depends on where you live. 3rd and 5th wards are the poorest neighborhoods in Houston.
Wheres there Governor?
he is on a trip out of the country
Crying about the border perhaps?
*their
@@michael85225are you implying there was no border problem in the first place?
...he's TRIPPIN'
Praying for all in Texas..We in Alabama know all to well about being with power…we buy gasoline for generators, some have generators that are hooked to their homes that run on natural gas or propane.. we buy wind up Radios, wind up flashlights, battery operating Fans, phone battery charger’s, and CB Radios. If in Apartments they pack big bags of ice on top of the food in the deep freezer. When Fredrick hit We learned to prepare! Or leave! I own a TV show and I tell my TV Viewers to be prepared! I even got a raft with paddles and life vests and I tell them turn around don’t drown! Water can be so deep and look shadow.. lord let the water recede in Houston Texas and restore their power! ❤❤❤
We can’t leave for a Cat 1. There was no contra flow. During Rita, hundreds died due to heat trying to evacuate. Even if you prepared you still need to recharge and refuel. It’s up to the city and utility companies to help. The Houston area has 5 million people.
Giving fan to people without power??! 😂😂😂😂😂
It's a whole different state. In Portland Oregon is where they're giving fans to people with no A/C, NOT in Houston.
Many people don't seem to understand how brutal summers are in the US. Not sure about Houston but in the DC area its the humidity that will drive you crazy.
DC? 😂😂😂
Folks lined up in cars not two days in and looking for water. What happened to taking responsibility for one's self or even the notion of preparing for emergencies?
Be safe everyone
As usual the governor is not present
They’ll take it out on the poor utility workers. Some people are not smart.
And his sudden appearance would bring you what?
Thankyou very much ❤
I lived in Texas for six years and had to leave. The cost, convenience and general living were great. I just couldn’t stand the narrow minded ignorant people.
Perhaps spending tax money on making the wall higher will prevent this from happening again, god speed
Why are they closing coolig centers at night??? Its still f'ing hot!!!
Duh. Because of money of course
Do like the governor leave..... until it gets better
I better get a discount for my bill this month. This is BS. They should of been ready but nope. We need a petition
He was lying, his voice was trembling
No public water fountains?????
Tell Daryn to come live in my house, and then ask him if they're doing a good job, dogs are heating, were overheating, no food, barely can find gas, etc. no they're not doing their best
get over it. the hurricane literally just passed. the linemen can only go so fast. after katrina and ida we were without for almost a month
“Tough it out.”
Where's Lyin" Ted Cruz?
At a resort with AC
Stay hydrated folks !!

Houston, Day 5 "Off-Grid" (no power)...
Promises were made by Abbott years ago after more than 70 people died during a winter storm...
We still have -"late 19 Century technology"- electric poles for cables on rural and cities areas, exposed transformers and unprotected generators (from air, rain and winter)...
I am not sure if ERCOT includes every company that owns the infrastructure in Texas, but they have had plenty of time to rebuild, modernize and ultimately develop a network that has the capacity to supply the growing demand and a reliable grid across our State.
My comments are not about "bashing" or calling for people to be fired... the intention is to instill in the companies the will to Build systems with the high-quality that American ingenuity and American products used to have...
No federal aid. They have churches, no preparation or accountability of corporations.
Everything is bigger in texas even the power outages 😂
If your house is not ruined/flooded and you don't have enough food and water to last you and your family a week then shame on you!! Covid 19 should have changed your way of thinking!!
THE CENTERFUCKING😂😂😂
Build for weather
I wouldn’t live in Texas for anything.
GEO ENGINEERING AT IT'S FINEST!
They have been flying and dropping chemtrails over Houston skies for years….of course it is going to get HOTTER EACH YEAR!!
Texas gov...out of state.
Cruz on vacation, again
Humans survived for thousands upon thousands of years without any kind of air conditioning or electricity. I feel bad for them, but they will be okay
May you all pray ,God help us all
Why weren't people prepared for hurricane season? Generaters, gasoline, cash, etc???? Wtf?🤡
21st century, 3rd world problems.
FYI: Republicans want to get rid of FEMA.
☝️🙏
🤲🏾
hey texas wanted to stand alone with their power grid. well this is what you get
Any little disaster and they always cry for government assistance.
They have been flying chemtrails for years in Houston, of course it gets HOTTER EACH YEAR!!! 😂
Don't worry. Abbot and Paxton will save you.
Why does he say “waterburger”?
Don’t live in Texas move to new York
Too late. They already moved in and brought crime with them. lol
More like New South America
Keep voting for Governor Abbott. He is far from being "Christian". WWJD.
Were good . Support Ukraine and migrant "workers"😮
Didnt joe biden just say that he invested billions in pur power grid to assure that Americans are not without power during heatwaves and storms???? HAHAHAHA
Well he did but the governor didn't do it so it's your fault
Not to defend Genocide Joe but this is a local issue.
Texas has its own independent power grid. Not connected to the EAST or WEST US power grid. Any time here is an outage in TX its up to independent contractors hired by Ercot (TX energy management company) to complete the work. TX lawmakers made it a law that normal folk cannot sue the power companies for damages or death. Its pretty f'd up here. - A Texan
Texas chose to have its own power grid and refused to be a part of the national power grid so......keep voting Red LOL
Ahhhhh! I LOVE IT!!!

So how are electric vehicles doing now 🤔🤔🤔🫣⛈️🌩️🤔🫣
With solar power, not a big deal, but when you depend on gas, that's what you get.
Glad you asked. On Monday, my home had residual cooling from before the outage. On Tuesday, with my home upwards of 80 degrees, I sat in my air-conditioned Tesla out in my garage and listened to WMAL, KTRH and then back to WMAL, until my garage door opener light came on at 4:37 pm. With the A/C, TuneIn Radio and charging both my phone from 0 to 100% and a portable power bank from 0 to 100%, I used about 6 or 7 kWh or .90 to 1.05 of electricity. Thank goodness for an electric vehicle.
